  1. One thing we all might do in the present is to "check our anxiety." Our emotions remain in check by balancing our logic and emotions. When any type of situation that is anxiety producing occurs, we throw logic out the window and emotion takes over. As a result, we lose all sense of reason and emotion leads to extreme "What if . . ." thinking. At its height "What if . . . " thinking most always spins so far out of control that we lose all reason. As a result, the anxiety worsens. Living in the moment is the antidote. When we are tempted to worry about things we cannot control - which only increases "What if" thinking, notice that trigger and focus on what we CAN control. Living in the past is depression. Living in the future is anxiety. Thus, in these uncertain moments the more we can catch our anxiety early, balance our emotion with logic, and focus on what we can control rather than what we cannot, we all just might make it through this together. Sending good thoughts and prayers to all.

  2. I’d like to, but I can’t. The President of the United States is standing on that stage surround by top medical people in the country saying this is the real deal. I don’t believe they are all lying, and I doubt any of them, other than the politicians, are driven by politics. Could this be fake? I think its like those claiming the moon landing was fake. It would require more people acting together and keeping their mouths shut than is possible. Especially when you still have people in this administration desperate to uncover anything this President has done wrong. It would also require that other countries, like Italy, to be involved.

  4. At least working from home right now, every time I have a no show patient it gives me more time to work on refinishing and reassembling my Model 63 Winchester .22 auto rifle. When finished, pictures WILL be posted.

  6. I'm fortunate to work a job that allows me to work from anywhere. Right now - the whole economy seems to have ground to a halt - and everyone seems to be finding their footing. I'm sure this might change in the weeks ahead, but right now I'm thankful that I've been able to take walks with each of my kids and my wife each day.

  7. Well to be fair...any day a Democrat purchases a firearm because they no longer trust the government to protect them...is a good day!

  8. We are as close as we have ever been to martial law. We are as close as we have ever been to the likelihood of armed gangs roaming the streets. We are as close as we have ever been, as a nation, of citizens needing the arms referred to in the 2nd amendment.

  9. This is no bueno. I have a contractor friend who’s been trapped in Baghdad since this #### went sideways. As should be expected, it is his last tour as he’s giving up contracting for the wife and kiddies. I hope they can get him out before things lock down.

  10. I WFH normally, but due to this virus my wife and daughter are also working from home sharing a sorry-assed cellular ISP connection. We have 5 adults, 2 teenagers, and an adolescent in the house since school is shut down. I may not make it through this virus even if I don't get it.

  13. Lying about it ? No. Blowing it way the Fu*k up ? Absolutely! Each day we are getting more and more retarded and people WILL reach a point where they will no longer comply. Like Garufa said, 11:50 pm is the official start of spring and TN folk like to be outside. Its what we do.

  16. The main insider trading statutes don’t apply to legislators, that was amended by the STOCK Act in 2013, but it has so many damn loopholes it’s about useless. If you’ve ever wondered how folks who make $150k a year and have to maintain multiple homes, including one in the über expensive D.C. can spend 10 years in Congress and become deci- or centi-millionaires, now you know.

  17. I will say this...there's a whole bunch of real insanity out there right now...so being paranoid is probably just a valid self defense mechanism. Stay safe folks.....

  18. I was thinking earlier, could you imagine the conspiracy theories if Hillary had won. I remember when people were saying Obama was gonna stick us in FEMA re-education camps. I have to imagine it's mostly democrats buying the guns right now while the rest of us just laugh at the insanity.

  22. They can tell you that but it is totally unenforceable. There are not enough cops, national guard, or active duty military in this country to stop people from getting about. The truth about numbers is one thing, most people will comply if ordered to stay home, but...tomorrow is the first day of Spring. I don’t know about the rest of you but East Tennessee hasn’t seen two warm sunny days in a row in months. People are going to start getting anxious and out.

  23. That’s what they’re asking people to do in California already. Here’s the order: https://www.saccounty.net/news/latest-news/Pages/SacCountyHealthOfficerIssuesCOVID-19Order.aspx As the numbers skyrocket, I’d expect some pretty strict measures.

  31. I've got a boat, but the RARE days of sunshine we get get are usually just for part of the day, so I head to the gun range for a couple hours, and to get out of the house. I did get "out of the house" yesterday, washed 2 vehicles, got one waxed, the other one gets waxed today. I was "out" in the garage so it was a different environment for a while. Any bets on another drought this July/August/Sept time frame???? I got the other vehicle waxed today, then mowed the yard, so I've been "out of the house" for the majority of 2 days, it sure helps the mind, even if I'm doing something productive for a change. LOL

This is why we can't have children. You are SOOOO jealous. I don't know why I put up with you. I should've listened to my mother....

  34. I did this investment gig professionally for 40+ years. The Dow is not going to 12k. If you're waiting for that (AND you wouldn't pull the trigger there anyway!) then get real excited if you see 15 or 16 or 17, with excitement levels in inverse order. Meaning if you see 15, back up the truck and load up. Load up in stages if the decline continues. Everyone wants to buy when the market is at a peak. That's why it gets to a peak. Duh! Buy when blood is running in the gutter. Buy when you can't stand to do it. Buy SLV and OIL. Those are ETFs on silver metal and crude oil. SLV closed today at 11.21 and OIL closed at 4.67. Desperate men do desperate things. Bold men do desperate things, and bold things, but they do smarter things on both. ETA: You should be buying some US stocks NOW, such as an S&P 500 ETF.

  37. We really don’t need to hear anymore about the economic catastrophe this version of the flu has turned into. That is well established. The groundwork for the economic and social ramifications of this hysteria have already been laid...over a period of weeks and now day to day, by governments desperate to control mayhem and a global populace incapable of calming down. One this is sure, there are going to be serious socio-economic ramifications. We already seeing that. Society as we know it likely to be very different in a few months.

  39. I have some sympathy but I've also accepted that people young and old just don't know how, or won't save. I had a conversation with a friend of mine last year because he got a big raise and cut his rent in half. I mentioned how he should try to stash some of that away. He looked at me dead serious and said he would rather spend the money now than save it for emergencies. I'm having a hard time having sympathy for those people right now. We also have so many safety nets in place that I feel like people don't think there is any need. We enable this. Now we're talking about sending everyone $1,000. It's insanity. And I'm not talking about the single mom making $30K a year. I'm talking about middle class Americans with good salaries that spend every cent they make. At some point in my lifetime this runaway government spending will come back to bite us in the ass. There is no way we can sustain this.

  41. I have a rifle set-up for it, but I don’t have access to anywhere here that I can shoot over 328 yards. I wouldn’t start out with those “expensive to shoot rounds”, unless you have a reason for doing so. I’d start with the .308 Winchester. It can do 1000 yards and a bunch of low-cost practice ammo is readily available. Do you have somewhere to shoot? What is "long Range" to you?

  42. The airlines need a bailout? Sure, critical infrastructure, essential for wartime scenarios to move troops...of course we'll make sure they're operational. But management and shareholders shouldn't get anything resembling a reward out of it. We should squeeze them through strings attached just as hard as they've squeezed travelers with baggage fees, preferred seating fees, shrinking seat sizes, overbooking, having to transfer planes at LaGuardia and Atlanta...all while spending 96% of their free cash flow on stock buybacks over the last decade. Maybe I'm wrong here, but I'm punitive when business tries to socialize loss when gains were quite privatized. Oh, on the COVID-19 front, my work from home adventure starts tomorrow...would have been sooner, but I was part of the rearguard getting others set up for remote work. Guess it's time to start eating some of this food I've been accumulating over the last few weeks.
