  1. After nearly two years of waiting my customer Cumberland Valley rifle is finished and I am loving it. My Gr gr gr grandfather settled in Mid TN around 1801 and in an area where some prolific rifle makers of that genre (ie. Thomas Simpson, Jacob Young, etc.) were in their heyday. I wanted a rifle that would be as close to "possibly" what he would have owned on the TN frontier of the first third of the 19th century. Posting a picture below but it is a .40 caliber flintlock with a 48 inch barrel. It has a 14.75" length of pull so it is a long rifle. Fits me pretty well, though as I am 6' 6". The stock is curly maple and really pops in the sunlight. I would have posted more photos but I hit my size max with the one below. thanks,

  3. Exactly. A DA could charge you with that if you left your windows down and a gun lying on the seat in plain view, if he thought he could get a jury to buy it. But we are discussing those of us who may have to leave a gun in the glove box or console out of sight in a locked car vs. those that think we need a safe built into our car if we own a gun, and will still want to charge us if a criminal breaks in and gets it. We have laws in place to deal with reckless conduct. We don’t need any new laws.

  4. There's a rumor that the air force replaced weapons qualification with several days with a golf pro. The challenge is to build a set of golf clubs to fit in the ejection seat with a six pack.

  5. The U.S. Air Force is issuing a new "Survival" rifle for it's pilots. It's a modified M4 with a 12" barrel and fits in the ejection seat of a plane, along with 4 30 round mags. You can read the article here. The military has followed the Civilian model this time. This is basically a AR pistol with a shoulder stock, not a brace. Smart!!! You can read the article here. https://www.yahoo.com/news/usaf-created-mini-rifle-fits-232300799.html

  6. Christian family, 250 years of Southern heritage, stuck in a state (GA) likely going blue soon. So we are getting the house ready to sell and eastern TN is very, very high on the list of landing spots. We are looking around Cleveland, to the south and slightly east. Might consider north GA (family not far from there) but TN has many things going for it. We homeschool 3 kids, also. In the hunt for church, land, community...

  7. Nice Review. Thankfully, Ruger will put a dent in the Heritage run away train with the Wrangler. To check for shaving lead on any wheel gun, take some medium card stock, fold it over the top strap to hang over the cylinders and fire each cylinder that way while you finger hold the paper in place at the top strap. A small cut in the side blast gas mark will indicate an out of alignment cylinder. Cylinder barrel gap is a very important spec. You should idealy have about .004-.005 there with a feeler gauge. Too much really sucks and makes the gun not worth owning. Keep in mind, another key area to look at is the finish of the bore cone there at the mouth of the barrel. If Ruger skimped out on honing it smooth in the Wrangler, you will get just what you have there pretty quick. Reason being, as the lead bullet begins to get lands swaging its OD, circular machine lines rather than a smooth honed forcing cone will tear lead from the newly cutting groove and leave those tiny lead particles free in the hot burn of the powder behind the bullet. The burn vaporises those particles and that vapor is then deposited as a layer or coating of flaky lead/powder residue exactly like you have pictured. Copper coated bullets fair a bit better in dealing with course forcing cones. Take a good look at the forcing cone in the gun and see if you can spot circular machine cut lines right into the rifling lands. If they are loud, you can have a competent smith hone them out. Thanks for your time on the review.

  8. Both of the above is correct. That designated "big box" models with lower mfg cost. Nothing wrong with it as it's still a Marlin

  9. I'd say it probably does I could be completely wrong but I believe the cost of a base m4 to the military is under $600...maybe less....that gun is pretty bare bones basic except for that part and the shorter barrel...but its a SHTF gun that will probably sit in that chair for the next 10-15 years.

  10. That CryHavoc kit is pretty cool actually...$350 feels steep but they are a smallish company so bills are bills. I too am impressed the Air Force built these at such a reasonable cost to the taxpayer.

  13. As per powerpoint for the ECP, the gun must be secured, out of sight. It can be in the glove box, console, separate locking device, or simply in a locked vehicle. Laying on the seat covered by the newspaper would be in compliance.

  14. This Saturday the 22nd is our 2020 Auction and Banquet. Join us for a celebration of hunting, angling, and the bountiful harvest they provide. Our fifth annual fundraising banquet will feature auctions, games of skill, live entertainment, an open bar, and an Instagram worthy feast. On top of that, Laird Hamberlin, the CEO of SCI will be our special guest. Most importantly, all funds raised will be used to further our mission of preserving and protecting our outdoor heritage through conservation, education, and community service. Friday night, before the banquet, Double Guns of Nashville will sponsor a casual evening where you can talk with our outfitters in a relaxed setting. We’ll have some fabulous food and a clay shooting competition where you can try out some of the best high end shotguns in the world and win great prizes. You do not have to be a member to buy a ticket for the banquet or to participate in the auctions. The auctions are online and there are a lot of awesome trips and gear available to bid on. You can get more information about the event here: http://www.musiccitysci.org You can check out the auction items here: https://www.onlinehuntingauctions.com/Music-City-SCI-Banquet-and-Auction-2020_a40218?m=all Back in December I posted some pics from a sandhill crane hunt I went on. It was purchased at last years auction. There are a lot of US based hunts and a lot of African and European hunts available. I hope to see some of you there.

  15. Thanks for posting this KahrMan. I've been so busy getting everything ready I totally forgot to put it up here. We've got some great guns up for auction this year along with some fantastic hunts, fishing trips and vacations. Bid early, bid often...it's for a good cause. 70% of all the money we raise stays in the middle TN community to help with veterans hunts, youth hunts, quail restoration and many other service projects that the chapter supports. The remaining 30% will be used on the national level to protect our right to hunt.

  16. Martkus, I called the Handgun Unit today, and they said that it was due to them incorporating a second background check into the process over the weekend. They said they got the fingerprint section done, now they are doing a second background check looking for “other things.” The lady stated they are pretty backed up, but gave me a projected time of approximately 2 weeks before the process would be complete. I will check back in 2 weeks and see if anything has changed. I’m glad I am not the only person experiencing this problem. I will update if anything changes on my end. Thanks for replying. just speculating here, but maybe with the addition of the new online only carry permit, they have taken extra measures into making sure the background checks are more thorough. Maybe this is the reason for the additional background check. I have asked many people who already have their permits about the background check going from completed and back to pending, and no one else has experienced this.

  17. Unfortunately, the forum software won't allow me to post another picture to this thread, bigger than a postage stamp (what's that all about???) But I picked up a silver model from @E4 No More this morning. I can honestly say, so far, it's as good a purchase as my 'half million round' Henry .22 I'd buy another in a heartbeat & I'd pay double the price, if my only option was a Heritage.

  18. Maybe the pro gun conservative republican legislators should turn the enhanced carry permit into a real enhanced permit this spring. That way people with the enhanced permits do not have to leave guns in their cars at places like colleges and other properties. That is what enhanced permits are for in other states. Why would that not work in Tennessee?

  20. We have a responsibility to not be criminally reckless. You are trying to go down a path painted with careless gun owners leaving their guns laying on the seat, or in the console with the windows rolled down. Is that how these guns are being stolen? My WAG guess here is No, never. They are being stolen in auto burglaries where vehicles are being entered, probably by force, but at least illegally (keys, slim Jims, etc). When I put my gun out of sight and lock my doors; that’s all the responsibility I have. And in your scenario where someone has a gun sitting in a place where it can be seen and it gets stolen then used in a crime, who is going to testify? Are you going to put the person that burglarized the car and then committed another crime on the witness stand? I’m not saying you couldn’t find a gun hating DA to try that; but without a confession that isn’t going anywhere. Its bad enough that our state refuses to recognize our 2nd amendment right and we have to deal with it as a privilege we buy from the state, but now you want to charge us criminally.

  21. So if you left $20 on a table at work, it's your fault if I steal it? I'm not following this line of thinking that criminals stealing things that aren't locked up or nailed down is the owner's fault.

  27. What happened to each person is responsible for THEIR actions? I lock my vehicle religiously but I feel even if unlocked and someone robs me anything further is on them. So if I lock or dont lock my doors at home and someone comes in and steals a gun that's on me? If we blame the innocent and the victims, we are starting down an extreme slippery slope. Heck it's all but open season on police officers. And yes there are bad apples everywhere, but condoning what I see happening against police officers sickens me. Lawmakers (politicians) have made a joke of our judicial system. My brother is a warden of a prison in NC. You just might be amazed at the laws and rules that are forced on them every year to protect the rights of the convicts. I'm sorry but once you commit a crime you changed the rules for yourself and the penalties should be stiff. God Bless the police and district attorneys navigating such a mess. Just my humble opinion.

  28. My question is how much money did they spend to do this instead of just pulling the 2 pins and separating the upper and lower? Put something on the upper to retain the BCG and CH that can be removed easily. Such as this $10 device: https://rcsgear.com/topstop-ar-upper-receiver-cover/ People even make one for the lower https://www.shapeways.com/product/2K8V9VN28/ar15-lower-receiver-dust-cover-with-mag-rel-pin @Defender Never used them, but this is not expensive. Not as good as a box, but 1/4 the price. Looks like you get a vehicle kit to match what you have. https://arma15.com/products

  31. For the true meaning of the 2nd we have the God given right to own, yes a bazooka. However the 2nd has been stepped on WAY to much!!! The biggest we have is 7.62 NATO and 7mm REM MAG, They are AR500 plate I picked up from a member here. I think the targets will work fine, puts them at an angle to make the fragments hit the ground.

  35. Besides using .22LR conversion kits: https://www.military.com/join-armed-forces/air-force-rifle-qualification-course.html The Air Force used to also require qualification on the M-9 pistol during basic training, but this requirement was recently eliminated. During the actual firing, you'll fire a total of 80 rounds at a man-sized target (upper body only) at ranges from 75 meters to 300 meters (1 meter = 1.094 yards). The range at Lackland is a short range, so you'll actually be firing from only 25 yards away. However, the target sizes are shrunk to represent the proper sizes at the specified distances (75 meters, 175 meters, and 300 meters). The Air Force conducts its basic training weapons qualification course in three phases. Tip: Airmen who hit the target at least 35 times qualify for the Small Arms Expert Ribbon.
