  1. Just ordered me some gongs for my back yard range. I got an e-mail from Shoot Steel and they had a 30% off sale on all targets, that ends today. I ordered 3, 1/2 inch thick steel gongs. The 1/2 inch is good for up to a 338 Laupua rifle caliber and good for all handguns. The 30% off more than paid for the shipping from Missouri. I have purchased some cheap ones that were for 22 long rifle or 38 Spl and they will not hold up. The 1/2" plates are heat treated and will stand up to anything I have. I wanted the 6" and 8" so I could practice head type shots at distance, and the 16" so I could make myself feel better after missing the other two. Looking forward to spring and dry weather. I have already used the range several times this winter on warmer and dryer days. So far no one has complained about the noise. I hope that last, but I am thoughtful and don't shoot but during the mid day or early afternoon. We have 3 acres and my closest neighbor is about 300 feet away with dense woods between us. Trying to be considerate and good neighbors with this shooting.

  2. I finally received my Geissele Super Duty Upper that I ordered on Black Friday. So far I really like.

  3. It started out as an MPA 971 that is basically a mac 11 upper set over an FAL lower. But MPA did an incredible dis service to the idea by not using a different hammer in the FAL FCG. Anyway, I did a write up here on the build a while back but it has crappy photobucket pics now. Nice semi auto shooter and being what the upper is, fixed firing pin bolts for open bolt firing is a full blown SHTF option. I want to mount a Holosun shake awake dot sight on it soon.

  4. Attach the chain so the plate hangs at an angle and isn't perpendicular to the line of fire. https://www.alloutdoor.com/2014/03/29/understanding-safety-steel-targets/

  5. Thanks for the info. I'm looking at the Viper Gen II PST with the MRAD reticle. The 20 MOA rail should help out with additional upward adjustment.

  6. 6.5 Creedmoor This is the original Viper. Pre-PST series so its a discontinued model. It's max elevation adjustment is 65 MOA. But like I said, this scope is temporary until I can afford a Nightforce to throw on top. As for rings, These are low. And you can see there is still plenty of room around the bell and just enough clearance for the bolt throw.

  7. Well I couldn't take it anymore. Picked up a used Vortex Viper from a buddy so I can shoot until I get some money for some real glass. Got the gun Saturday night and put it all together Sunday. It's going to be a couple of weeks before I can make it to the range but I love it so far. I've got a Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle which is the same base action, but its crazy how different the two guns are. The GSR has always had a very tight, not necessarily gritty but tight action. This one is closer to how some really high end guns feel. And the LRT has a two stage trigger and is way lighter than the GSR. The GSR is great for the woods and what its made it for and I enjoyed it as my bench gun. But this is a whole different world. I'm excited. The local range makes me qualify to go from 100 yards up to 600 yards so I've got some work to do but hopefully in a couple of months, I'll be putting together some midrange groups!

  8. This one gun (rifle) debate has raged on in lots of internet forums. There is no right answer without other parameters. Is it full-on SHTF or Martial Law? Are you Urban or Rural? Is it open combat with other people/groups or are you just hunting for food? What is your chance of get more parts and ammo? Are you mobile? If so, are you on foot? The gun that is best not knowing any answers from above is the one you have, have ammo for, and are proficient with. My old .303 Enfield would probably serve me better than a SAW if I am out in a rural area. There I would probably take my .308 bolt or Savage 24 .30-.30 over 20ga break action though. Just easier to find ammo and I can hunt anything with the 24 at distances I encounter in East TN. My 10.5 inch barrel AR9 style pistol might be better if I am moving building to building in a urban environment. Especially if I need to move on foot because my sidearm and it would share ammo. Less weight or more ammo depending on load out. Hi cap mags also help if I encounter trouble. Yes, a rifle caliber would be better. An AR-15 in.223 could be good if I thought I needed to pick up more parts along the way. I just dont love .223. A bit less likely would be an AR-10. I like .308 better, but the weight is a big step up. As a compromise, an AK would do well if it is tuned and accurate. Spraying and praying is only good in movies. Again, no "right" answer here. Any of them are better than a pointy stick. Really focus less on what gun and more on improving skills that can apply across a good spectrum. Having the gun is one thing, but if you don't know how to use it well it will probably just end up in someone else's hands.

  9. Well my favorite gun is a 16” Marlin 1895 with a scout scope mount. I actually like that type of setup.

  10. My mother was the executive assistant to the CEO of the Davenport family that originally owned the Krystal. Mom died in 2017 so your mention of the Krystal today brings back some Krystal memories, so please indulge me for a moment. In high school on a dare I ate 32 Krystals on a Friday night at the Krystal on Cherokee Blvd. in Chattanooga (hometown!) (I also lost all 32 minutes later . . .) But I did win a Marlin 39A as I had to eat 30 to win the rifle from a friend. And he did give me the prize! Anyone remember when they made donuts with a machine? I'd die for a hot maple donut . . . They used to serve hot syrup with their waffles Their fried chicken was awesome! The family and the company were both very nice to my mother and myself when my father was ill and dying

  12. If I was running church security I would be very concerned with ease of access. "Non Traditional" holster setups like these shirts seem to be slow and cumbersome on the draw. If comfort is your concern it doesn't get better than OWB with a jacket

  15. Here is a link to a much better video of the one above from liveleak. The video above is from Youtube and they cut out the sound of the gun going off and his mother yelling at him. https://www.liveleak.com/view?t=unzdd_1581220111

  16. Never tasted a Krystal burger without mustard. I figure they do it so they don't taste like an inferior White Castle knock-off.

  17. The “militia” in every state of the union is called the National Guard. I’d be wary of seeking out or aligning with any groups using that term. They are small, fractured, hysterical, and are already on The Man’s radar.
