I have an Extar EP9 and consider it to be the best value in a AR type 9mm out there. CLICK HERE Its not quite a true AR as it is a blowback action and the charging handle is on the side. But many standard AR parts drop right in. You can't buy these in gun stores. You have to order it directly from Extar and they'll ship it to your FFL. The best part is that the price with shipping comes to $439.00 I haven't shot it a whole lot. But so far, mine has been very reliable with all ammo I've tried. Shove a 32 round mag in it and its a hoot! Truthfully, I just consider it a range toy. If the SHTF I have other guns that I'd go for. I've only had two minor issues with it. Aftermarket magazines needed to be lightly sanded on the sides in order to drop free. If jammed in hard, mags can go in a little too far and block the bolt. I just insert the mag and give it a slight pull and everything is fine. Here's mine after I got it all decked out. Even with the extras, I still have less in it than I would buying a similar pistol from a name maker. BTW: Extar has plans to make these in .45acp & 10mm also. But right now they're so swamped with orders for the 9mm that the other calibers are on indefinite hold.5 points

I'll admit that I'm bragging here a bit. But I'm happy about this buy. I've never even bought two guns in the same day, much less three. But I did just that today. It all started with some ads on Armslist. The guy listed each gun individually, but then there was a 4th ad for them as a group. I contacted him, we haggled and I believe I got a great deal. All three are Berettas. a 2016 85FS Cheetah .380, a 2001 3032 Tomcat .32acp and a 950BS Jetfire .25acp. All three are LNIB with original manuals. Not a mark on any of them. I can't seem to find a date for the Jetfire. No date code on the gun that I can find and the serial # doesn't come up on any list. The guy said it was an antique. Can anybody help with that? I'll probably have to contact Beretta. The best part? I gave $1000 for the lot. I'm tickled plumb to pieces!4 points

Buy at PSA, much cheaper that way and they are pretty decent. They are fun to shoot, and 9mm ammo is currently cheap to buy and reload. I bought this one https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-gen4-10-5-9mm-1-10-lightweight-m-lok-moe-sob-ept-pistol-5165449802.html Keep an eye on the daily deals, which normally makes up for shipping and transfer fees.3 points

Yes, the last round does lock the bolt open. I also recently added an angled fore grip to it. When you start dumping 32 round mags through it, the handguard does tend to get a might warm.2 points

This is actually a policing tactic I can get behind because the intent is obvious in just trying to get folks who are utilizing a fuzz buster to slow down. Same thing with the employment of empty cruisers in conspicuous places. It places a priority on encouraging safer, slower driving over revenue generation. I like it.2 points

A radar wave can transmit for miles. While unlikely, some areas will have radar drones, and not the flying kind, but these transmit a radar signal for various reasons. Sometimes the reason is to just give a false alarm.2 points

I just got back from a three day hunt in Canyon Texas for Sandhill Cranes. I bought this hunt at our local chapters SCI banquet. This was my first time hunting cranes and it was a blast. They call sandhill cranes the flying ribeye of the sky. I had heard so much about how great they are to eat that I was worried that it would not live up to hype. Our outfitter grilled us some breasts one night and let me say that it does live up to the hype. If you did not know you were eating crane you would think it was steak. We also had some spectacular sunrises and sunsets. I used Diamond Wing Outfitters. They were great. Worked hard to make sure we had opportunities to kill cranes. The limit is three per day. We had four hunters in our group. The first day we saw thousands of cranes but only killed 3. The second day we got 9 but should have limited out. They are a tough bird to bring down unless you get a clean head shot. The third day we got our limit. One afternoon we also got some duck hunting in. All in all it was a great trip. https://www.diamondwingoutfitters.com1 point

Just to mix it up a little bit @leroy have you considered a Ruger PC carbine? They’re the bee’s knees IMHO.1 point

Laugh & throw derisive comments my way, but I've got one of these OFF THE AMAZON!! mounted on my HD/hog shotgun. It's only a crapper maverick 88 but it's been fed nothing but heavy buck & slug loads. The-Little-Sight-That-Could has survived more than 200 shots without the slightest zero shift. It's your typical red/green turn the battery knob job, but I've been astonished by it's reliability & consistency. I believe it's a 4moa dot too.1 point

I have one in 7.62. Shoots great and seems to hold tight groups. Trigger is smooth and breaks nice. If you get new a good cleaning is needed (well mine did). 10 round magazine is nice.1 point

the inside of the slide in the corners the wax can collect, there are other areas that liquids can pool. Stuff is worthless IMO1 point

Just lay some thoughts out. I have a couple of PSA buys, rifles and pistols. No issues at all with them. The 16" rifle in 9 is a bit picky with ammo, some seem to give FTF issues. Doesn't happen with good stuff, but Freedom Munitions reloads seem to be the cause. The 8" pistol is a hoot, as they say. Eats anything I load. And it gets real hungry at the range. It's just as I got it from PSA, minus the SBA, I put a blade on it. Like them, but the side charger thing really calls out to me. I like that. Guess I'll be checking out the Extar.1 point

I like it; does it have last round hold open (PSA one doesn't)? That is not a big deal to me as it's just a fun plinker, but I suppose it can have it's merit in an SD event. Also, "they" seem to be listening, I just got a Rural King ad with this one: https://www.rkguns.com/freedom-ordnance-fx-9-9mm-semi-automatic-33rd-8-25-ar-pistol-0254453.html1 point

Depends on what you reason for wanting a "higher end" gun is, and how good a shooter you are. If you have the time and tools already. Sounds like you already appreciate that the most important thing is the barrel, interface to the upper receiver, BCG. Triggers help, but secondary to those. Greg hit the mark on the economics. Current generics have closed the gap over what was the wild west of parts 6 to 10 years ago. Popular opinion and experience seems to point to there be little difference for a good shooter who knows his build craft and gas system function. The biggest difference seems to be feature sets (ambi this and that) and rail to upper interfaces. There are some that have minor tweaks that are designed to mitigate recoil impulse. If that is worth another 1000 to 1500, is subjective.1 point

I will echo the above in that you cant go wrong with either in 9mm. I bought a carbine from a member here and have zero complaints.1 point

I recently bought a complete upper ($319) and complete lower ($219) from PSA and have been happy with it so far. Complete gun with the same upper/lower was over $600. Mine is the 8” version of Omega’s above.1 point

“Higher End” means we are not discussing $500; $1000 factory builds. Because those you name are not in that price range. Name recognition (for the higher end Mfg’s) is because they work. Parts are matched, sometimes hand fitted if necessary, and usually tested. If you are building a rifle that you will keep; I would say build your own and go for what you want. Problem is, if you try to sell it. It’s a garage build, and no one is going to want to pay much for it. You will also have to buy gun building tools. In my own opinion based on the many AR’s I have seen and owned; you can buy a factory build that will be just as accurate and reliable as the high dollar designer guns. Guns are like computers. It used to be that you could build your own better, and for less money. Those days are gone. You can build, more specifically to what you want, but you can’t save any money doing it. It’s hard to beat the quality of the big boys in the mid to high end PC’s. That’s just my opinion.1 point

I got a RCBS Uniflow and trust it but, still look in the cases every time. I've only loaded one round since I started in '87 that didn't have powder but, still check. As far as components go, I think we'll be good finding pretty much what we want/need for a while. I see lots of stuff in stores and online.1 point

Update. I gave the knife to my sister for Christmas, and she showed it to some friends. Two of them want one just like it. I'm not really in the mood right now to make anything soon. I told her give me a week or two and I'll get in the mood.1 point

I feel your pain buddy. I have an RMR on my 17 and it dramatically improved my groups, especially at distance. But I've put a lot of dry fire practice into it, still do. Consistent presentation and all of that. But I have been amazed at what improvement it makes at distance. I have astigmatism, so I have to be careful I don't have the dot dialed up too bright at distance (50 yds +), but closer it's a nonissue. It;s nice to be able to simply target focus. Pick up the dot and press. Nice. I have HD's on my G 19 and Ameriglo CAPS on my G 26 and S&W Shield. I'm happy with those choices. When proven out a bit more, I am considering one of the Holosun RDS for my G 26 and/or my S&W Shield...maybe both. Time, and money, will tell.1 point

Sometimes a Glock 17, when I'm wearing a jacket. Most of the time a M&P Shield 9mm. Always OWB in a Blackhawk Serpa holster. I can conceal "good enough" with even the 17 and a untucked shirt or jacket. I've tried several IWB, and they just don't fit me.1 point

I doubt if a TAWS system would have made any difference. According to the latest reports, radar tracking indicates he was in a 2000fpm descending left turn, which sounds to me like the classic "graveyard spiral", at that speed and rate of descent the time differential between the TAWS warning and impact would have been less than a second.1 point

On a more serious note, My CZ SDP is equipped with Heine Straight 8s...hate 'em CZ 75B, oem night are TruGlo (I think) still bright on my '08 model. Past 15/20 yards the front blade is a huge block. I have an APX RDO on the way, I'm leaning RMR for defensive shooting. +50, failing eyesight both near and far.1 point

I had colts. I had Pythons. But I sold them because they were junk. If I just wanted a fantastic blue finish I would buy S&W. Unfortunately, they don’t make old azz cowboy guns. So, unless you are going to sell me one of your Colts for $500, go get one of your Blackhawks out and take pictures of it, and properly answer the question. I’ll hurry up and wait right here.
