Fortunately, all three of my kids are conservative although the middle kid was touch and go when Obama first ran for President. She converted when I asked her to identify which of Obama's policies that she agreed with after she stated that, "He speaks to me," and she couldn't name a single one. I didn't try to force my political beliefs on them preferring that they form their own opinions, but I have always pointed out inane positions of any politician and explained why I think they are wrong. I then ask them which makes more sense so that they came to logical conclusions. Having spent a lot of time in different colleges, I also point out to my kids that someone is not always correct just because of a position, (like a professor), that they hold. It's kind of the belief that being educated does not mandate being smart anymore than being smart mandates being educated.4 points

trigger is wonky, barrel length is all wrong for a 1911 ,arched MSH on a railed 1911? and front serrations are a mess ,plastic grips its just a design fail of epic proportions and its made overseas so for a budget 1911 I suggested the Springer.its forged, its matched grade barrel, its wood grips, trigger is correct for this style 1911 and its upgradable later https://palmettostatearmory.com/springfield-1911-defender-45-acp-5-pistol.html good luck2 points

Take the class. It's good structured training. But training is an ongoing thing. Find clubs around you that do USPSA/IDPA matches. Great bunch of people. Lots of fun. If you let somebody know that you are new, you'll get a lot of friendly help.2 points

If they have a smooth action and good trigger, I could be persuaded to buy a 4.25".1 point

So that AR15 I picked up at the gun show isn't a firearm since I didn't introduce gunpowder to it? The guy doing the background check sure didn't see it that way. Nothing wrong with CB caps, or whatever they call them these days, but if your 22 is capable of firing ammunition, it IS a firearm.1 point

A lot of folks dislike rail guns, or any 1911 with features that didn't come on the Mil-Spec 1911A2.1 point

Glad to see this. I hope they offer it in the polished blued version. I won't be buying one but it's good for the market IMO. I think it will have limited effect on the value of an "original" Python.1 point

I think it’s been a while since Ruger made an all Steel semi auto, other than a 1911. I’ve always been interested in this round, since that idiot terrorist used an FNH 5.7 to great effect at Fort Hood, back in 2009. Before that, I thought it was a gimmick. Still seems much bigger than I want to carry, though.1 point

I’ve been wanting to get more formal training and be more proficient with a handgun. I go to the range and shoot and can hit targets, but want to do more Training than just standing and hitting paper. Anyone have a recommendation on who in the hendersonville area does that? I thought about guns and leather, I’ve signed up before but they never called me to come to the classes, kind of put a bad taste in my mouth.1 point

Good morning and Happy New Year to all of you. I hope that each of you will resolve to be more purpose-driven with your time at the shooting range this year, and if finances permit that you seek out and participate in formal training in an emergency medical or defensive shooting discipline at least once.1 point

My 2020 Resolution. Be more faithful in my prayer life. Ensure the power of my example exceeds the authority of my position. Worship and glorify God through the quality of my work; I was blessed and started my dream job 12/10/2019 thanks to all those who prayed, keep me in their thought, and God's perfect timing! Lastly, continue to accept with humility that God sees the potential in me to be an example of Christ in my thought, words and what I do. I pray all of you have a safe and prosperous 2020!1 point

I have a Taurus G-3 and the quality has impressed me so far. I wasn't sure about how good it would be but after about 800 rounds it has proved accurate and reliable. Surprised me some what.1 point

My first carry gun was a Kimber 4.25”. I love that gun. Got a great quality leather holster. Only down side was even with a good gun-specific belt it would damn near pull my britches off. Even though that made all the ladies swoon, it was less than desirable. Never cared for the first second about carry wear on the weapon.1 point

You’ll be hard pressed to find a slimmer pistol that packs the punch of a 1911. They are heavy though.1 point

I love them, but I don’t carry one anymore; although a lot of folks do. A good one in .45ACP is an excellent example of high quality all metal guns. The weight vs. round count just doesn’t compare to a Tupperware gun. Their application, for me, is they are excellent target guns and range toys. I’ve never owned one in 9mm based on all the folks I see that have problems with the 9mm being able to operate the heavier gun. Of course, some don’t have problems. As far as holsters go; I’m all leather, all the time. But of course, they cost more.1 point

Kydex is faster to draw from for me than leather, I guess like all leather it needs to be broken in but still retain the gun, were Kydex is usually pre molded to already fit, but also remember don't be a cheapskate when buying either make sure they are of good quality. I've got a J&M Kydex Holster think it ran $60 and I also have a Raven OWB that was $70, both hold the guns nice and tight but are easy to draw from, now my leather ones cost me a lot more, I have and Andrews HY-Bird that is full Shark Hide OWB, Milt Sparks 55bn OWB, and a couple of others. A good Gun Belt is also needed and make sure it fits the loops snugly I prefer a 1.5" width belt when carrying either IWB(inside the waistband) or OWB. I tend to stay away from Paddle Holsters unless they have a good retention to stay put when drawing your gun( it's funny but I've seen and had it happen to me when practicing with a cheap one the whole thing comes out) do some searches and find out what works best for you.1 point

I've got 5 1911's, two Wilson Combat CQBE's .45cal, Les Baer TRS .45cal, Springfield GI .45cal. and a new Colt in .38 super. I carry both of the Wilsons all the time I just rotate them out, One has 15,000-18,000rnds. ran through it, the other around 10,000, as far as wear goes I could care less you can always have them refinished if you want and I replace the parts that show wear but so far I've only changed out the recoil springs and main springs in them when needed or recommended . I switch off form Kydex Holsters, to Leather Holsters, the Kydex will cause more "wear" on the finish. Both of those guns cost me $3200 to have them built. The Les Baer I have only two mags shot through it since I bought it just to check for function. The SA, and Colt I just recently bought and have yet to shoot them. So I guess to answer your question yeah I'm fine carrying them and I'm not really worried about wear, remember they can all be refinished. Hope this answers your question, enjoy your 1911 and carry it they look better with a little wear marks on them anyway.1 point

I think it was Massad Ayoob who said something like "shooting competitions are not gunfights, but gunfights are shooting competitions." Competitive shooting has its uses.1 point

A while back, I heard a guy ask a deacon at church whether he thought it would be o,k. to carry at church. The deacon told him that if something happened, he’d see at least a half dozen guns pulled, but it would be fine to carry, although concealment and judicious marksmanship would be appreciated.1 point

Aw man, don't go there. On another forum the video had barely come out when a bunch of Internet "experts" started critiquing everything the security team did wrong. Muzzle sweeps, poor movement, lack of cover etc. Bottom line is the BG was stopped as soon as he got started. No further injuries. Nobody was shot by accident. Sure, they probably could have done better, but there's no point in bringing it up now. This was a win!1 point

I have to make a confession. The afternoon after my post, I was in the basement, hear what sounds like the front door closing. No barking dog, could be my son or wife home from work hours early. Not likely and no shout down the stairs of announcement. The barkless dog could be due to being deaf and fast asleep... "Hello?" I say, no response. Clear my garment, get a proper grip and start up the stairs. Halfway up, someone is banging around. At three quarters, I can hear either my dish washer or washing machine running. Now I'm confused. Weak hand out to fend off as I cut the corner, gun still in holster. And there is WALL-E, navigating around the table and chairs, brushing and sucking away, sounding much like another appliance. First thought, "should I post this on TGO?"0 points
