  1. What we need is a 10mm that is truly the size of a G19. What we'll get is a new Glock trenching tool.

  2. Ended up with 2 each. Tell more later. Had a blast, but it was an all day thing(4 AM-12Noon). Got to eat our big Thanksgiving meal tonight (Friday) here at "Reed Manor". Go to families house on Thanksgiving day. Post more tomorrow.

  3. Is it me or is this thread somewhat timely as we are full on in Black Friday week? Sadly I found it too late to curb my compulsion this go round. I appreciate the sobering thoughts. For transplants who lived it restricted states, the first year or two of the open firearm buffet seems to shut down your awareness and logic. A few months ago I was able to rein it in and was picking thru things to thin. I dabbled. But I still keep walking up to the buffet line because its there and I can still walk. With resolution season just ahead, its a good reminder that staying lean applies to a good many more things.

  4. Civil Unrest would have been a great term to stick on the Patriot Militia at Lexington and Concord. I get there are some wackjob mouth breathers in these militias, but government is supposed to make laws that protect liberty and protect individual rights, not protect government.

  5. Ancient history now and I'm fine. My point is that such things make you re-evaluate your life and realize just how fragile it is.

  6. Any good realistic ideas on what it could be ? I'd like to say it would be a very slim compact 45acp like the Shield 45 . But as Glock has done here lately it may be something stupid like a new 43X with a stippled magazine base plate.

  7. Ive been buying, trading and collecting guns for a number of years now. As I age and have become afflicted with a few health issues requiring daily meds, I realize that one aspect of my desire to own guns/ammo was for survival in a STHF type scenario. I realize now that with these health issues, I wont survive very long without my meds, regardless of how many guns/how much ammo I have, lol. I dont hunt now, but thought I would if i had to in the above situation. In the back of my mind also, I thought that being in a position to trade guns and or ammo would also be a good tool for survival. Rethinking that too. I dont get to shoot as much as Id like, and may actually shoot less when i retire due to reduced income. Anyway, all that to say that I am probably going to thin the herd quite a bit. I cam to this decision some time ago, but the current market is not good for me to sell the guns I want to. Im going to get rid of quite a few i think. Ill be carrying for self defense though, and want to be able to defend my home as well, but i dont need what I currently have to do that. Plus side is this will free up some cash for other things like debt reduction, or other health needs. I just need to figure out exactly what I want to keep and what i want to sell, and start on it. Im a little embarrassed to say exactly how many guns i'll be selling but it will include a nice selection of long guns and pistols. I'll post them on here first. Ill also be eliminating some calibers entirely from my ammo stocks as well.

  8. Do you have some scope covers that the elastic cords holding them together and on the scope have deteriorated to the point of being useless? You can easily replace it by visiting the WalMart sewing department and buying 5 yards of the stuff for $1.97. This may not be news to some but I’m rather pleased with myself today, lol.

  9. I will not carry without a covered trigger. Even in a pocket, I use a pocket holster.

  10. A holster IS a safety device. I’ve had leather holsters for decades and never had one do what that did in that story. Using a deformed holster like that would be stupid on my part. You have to make sure nothing is in the holster when you are reholstering, but you have to do that with kydex also.

  11. The idea of a paddle holster is appealing, for this very reason, but Ive yet to try a paddle holster that seems very secure. They seem to move too much for me.

  12. Well…not only is it news; but its legendary News!! Apparently it will be especially exciting if you register online for this extraordinary experience at Glock, and watch it live, December 10th at 10:00 am EST. I’m not a Glockster and they probably do a background check to see if you really own a Glock or if you are trying to sneak in. So I’ll have to hurry up and wait right here for one of you to fill us in.

  13. Reading this will make me go check my leather belt slides and full holsters. I might even have to rethink my comments on the kydex/leather holsters. I've never had that situation, but I have had an AD. It was with my Dad's competition High Standard. The trigger pull on it was wonderfully short and smooth. Also very, very light. Measured around 1.5 lbs. I loaded a mag, brought it up a little high prior to dropping sights onto target. And laid my finger on the trigger. Proceeded to let off several rounds into the ceiling above the target and backdrop. Two lessons learned. Change my style of getting on target, and keep my finger away until certain I'm read for a shot. I was about 20 then. Dad had some choice words for me.

  15. This is a key phrase here. " intending to employ such training for use in, or in furtherance of, a civil disorder" No mention about training for self defense. Looks to me like its aimed at the various extreme militia groups out there. Virginia got many of those? But then again, if it passes, it'll mean whatever they decide it means. Abuse of this will be easy.

  16. Yep, A heart attack and triple bypass at age 46 made me realize it can happen at any time. . That's why I retired on the very first day I was eligible.

  20. There's no safer way to holster the gun, then attach holster and gun to your self?

  21. Wow. Im a little surprised at how many others are thinking similar thoughts. I really hesitated posting the OP because i felt like it sounded whiny, lol. Im not in a big hurry and may well wait to see how the political situation evolves before I sell. Thanks, guys, for the support and the advice. You guys are awesome.

  22. This is a sobering topic but one we all need to face and consider at some point. I reached this conclusion a couple of years ago. While I didn't have a large "collection" as my guns were/are primarily for the defensive use category, I've begun thinning them out, along with accouterments like ammo and magazines. At 65, soon to be 66, my abilities, capabilities and priorities have changed. I simply can't do what once I was able LOL. I too have no family with an interest in what I have accumulated and I don't want to leave my wife with a pile of "stuff" that she has no idea what the heck it is, much less what it's value is. We, in this age range, have been blessed with some incredible experiences and exposure over the years. I am thankful for that. As Col.Cooper's book sates, "The past was another country, we did things different there". It was a great place to pass through.

  23. I've liquidated most of my collection over the last 10 years. I still have way more firearms & ammo than I'll ever shoot. All I can say is how thankful & blessed I've been to have the fine firearms I've owned, some for a short time others long term. Getting older & its challenges can grate on some, it grates on me but again I'm blessed to have hunted, fished, & shot more than most, didn't miss much. Sad thing is how many collections I've bought & brokered from guys whose family wanted nothing to do with them, all they care about is $$.

  24. I went on a bit of a spree a while back...surely no coincidence it's about when I found TGO. For the vast majority of the time, my guns that sit locked up with a light coat of oil on the action. I don't regret what I have, but I surely don't have a need for more unless I get into shooting as a primary source of recreation, and that's not likely. I have enough weapons and ammo for home defense, daily carry, civil breakdown, and more importantly, can be mobile with it all if needs be. Maybe one day if I get a new vehicle that can secure one, I'll get a good truck gun, or a .22LR pistol (the S&W one right now looks best) for fun and to let any kids I'm around get into shooting. But as I get close to my 40s, I think the capital otherwise spent on guns and every attachment you can throw on them is better deployed to investments for my old age or misfortune.

  25. There comes a point in every man’s life where they need to ponder on what they’ve accumulated and what is going to happen to it. Do you start liquidating while you can and recoup or leave it all to heirs who will let it go for nothing?

  26. I was at the range last week and ran into an old range friend that I haven't seen in quite some time. He's getting into his late 70s and has had some health issues. He told me that he's sold almost all his guns. He can't shoot as well or as often as he used to and his kids don't have any interest in them. This guy used to have quite a large collection. Now he's down to a couple of .22 target rifles, one .22 handgun and one defensive handgun. Frankly I was shocked. He always was a very active shooter and collector. But it did make me stop and think. I'm getting on up there in years and my health is questionable. I'm thinking that not too far down the road, I'll probably be looking at selling too.

  27. If the rifle is primarily for deer hunting go down to the local WalMart, big-box sporting goods store, or whoever sells the cheapest ammo more than capable of taking a deer, or anything else, at any distance. Note the availability and prices. I bet what they have starts with 30.

  28. I'm sure it's a hard thing to come to this conclusion. I'm not there yet, but have seen a lot of the folks I look up to get there. (I'm thankful that so far my reassessment of my collection is mostly to do with focusing more on things I'll want my boys to able to appreciate.) To echo what @DaveTN said, if you can hold them for a year or a bit less you'll probably do much better in terms of how much debt you'll be able to take care of. Feel free to pick our brains if necessary when you're listing things, and thank you for thinking of us first!

  29. The 22 Hornet is a great cartridge. An old friend of mine shot a large pile of Coyotes over the decades with his Savage 23D. I have a 23B in 25-20 and really like these old classic Savage guns. Down side is cost of ammo. Only the import stuff is reasonable considering the tiny amount of material to make one of these rounds. Someday I'll get my Dillon set up for the 25-20 with spitzer heads & modify the ol girl for Winchester 351 SLR mags. That's the ticket right there for me in that category. If you reload, your good to go . https://ammoseek.com/ammo/22-hornet
