  1. Sorry you feel the need to reduce inventory. At 65 although I can still shoot anything fine, I’m facing having to sell my Harley. I can still ride, but I’m tired of listening to friends and family run their mouth about how I don’t ride it much anymore. Brother, not much is selling right now. Tupperware guns if the price is low enough is moving a little. If you can wait until the election next year, they will probably go up substantially. If a Democrat is elected, they will go up a bunch. Also, I think the feds are going to stop private sales. If that happens with warning; sales will skyrocket from the time it passes to when it goes into effect.

  2. That is an understatement. I like most are over the hill, but I can still see some of the top!! I have 2 children and 3 grandchildren, but they all have guns of their own. But I think I will at least leave 1 to each of them. I know a fellow who had all the clan come for some occasion and he took all of his guns that he was going to give them and put a number on each 1 and had a corresponding number in a hat, you pick a number and bingo that is your gun, no fighting that Bob got a nicer gun than me. I thought that a very democratic way to handle things. Now on a lighter note. Happy Thanksgiving to all, we have been blessed beyond measure!!

  3. Well I did a bunch of research yesterday and placed the value at $700. I called the guy this morning and offered him that. We haggled a little and settled on $750. We met, I looked the gun over real good and bought it. This thing is almost perfect! A few light marks on the barrel from operating the slide, but nothing more than you might find from it being handled in a gun store. Otherwise there ain't a mark on it. Easily 99%. Spare mag was still in the factory wrap. As soon as I got it in my hand I knew I wanted it. Ok, I may have paid a little too much. But I won't be selling it in the near future either. So when that day finally comes, I'm sure I can at least get my money back. BTW: the seller called back after I had already left to say the he had reconsidered and just had to have $800. But I didn't get the message, so he honored his word on the $750 price. Weather forecast calls for it to be wet and chilly for the next week. No Idea when I'll get a chance to shoot it. Maybe I'll use the time to put a SRT kit in it.

  4. Ive been buying, trading and collecting guns for a number of years now. As I age and have become afflicted with a few health issues requiring daily meds, I realize that one aspect of my desire to own guns/ammo was for survival in a STHF type scenario. I realize now that with these health issues, I wont survive very long without my meds, regardless of how many guns/how much ammo I have, lol. I dont hunt now, but thought I would if i had to in the above situation. In the back of my mind also, I thought that being in a position to trade guns and or ammo would also be a good tool for survival. Rethinking that too. I dont get to shoot as much as Id like, and may actually shoot less when i retire due to reduced income. Anyway, all that to say that I am probably going to thin the herd quite a bit. I cam to this decision some time ago, but the current market is not good for me to sell the guns I want to. Im going to get rid of quite a few i think. Ill be carrying for self defense though, and want to be able to defend my home as well, but i dont need what I currently have to do that. Plus side is this will free up some cash for other things like debt reduction, or other health needs. I just need to figure out exactly what I want to keep and what i want to sell, and start on it. Im a little embarrassed to say exactly how many guns i'll be selling but it will include a nice selection of long guns and pistols. I'll post them on here first. Ill also be eliminating some calibers entirely from my ammo stocks as well.

  7. I too have started downsizing. I am 71 and my health is getting worse. I want to give my guns to my grandchildren. I want to do it before I will need to run them through a nix system. Have already given away several and have several more to give. I sure have enjoyed collecting them over the last 50 years. Hard to see my babies leave, but the passage of time is saying let them go. Will keep enough to protect my sweetie and me. Kinda sad in a way.

  8. You know, I think if I'm honest, and I believe others might have these thoughts; in the dark recesses of our collective minds, I think many of us have had that thought/delusion. In my younger days, I envisioned myself as the one others looked to for help and maybe protection. That comes from reading to many TEOTWAWKI books. Nowadays, in my fairy tale life, I've come to see myself as the old fart who has a stash that others find and use to save themselves. I see no way of surviving past the initial wave and exchange of fire. Too old in body, never was in good physical condition like the young warriors of today, and the legs and back are shot. Maybe the next year will offer better selling possibilities, and fewer pains.

  9. Good News!! Just ordered 4 from Galanti International. As I was scanning emails, I saw theirs and thought I'd give a try. They are in stock as of 4:32 and priced at 20.95 each(if I haven't already forgotten. I did pick up the TX22 this afternoon, and I'll comment later on how it handles on the range. But my initial reaction is one of great pleasure. Fit and finish seem quite good(yeah for a plastic pistol lol). Feels just as good in the hand as I remembered. I'd only gotten to see one and it was sold. So I was really hoping my memory was right about it. The trigger is just about the best I've ever felt on a Taurus pistol. Has a smooth take up. Then it stops and breaks cleanly. No gritty feel at all. And for those of us who like this... a 1/4 at most reset, and it is audible. I can't wait to test this out.

  10. Only made it two days so far. I saw 5 does on opening day of rifle (Unit CWD) and only one gave me a shot. I missed. Next time out, I saw nothing. I heard them getting busy but it wasn't on my land or where I could see. But never saw anything. Heading back out this weekend.

  11. My interest in shooting and hunting seems to have declined recently. Although I’m not currently buying much, I’ve yet to find any reason to sell.

  12. I've liquidated most of my collection over the last 10 years. I still have way more firearms & ammo than I'll ever shoot. All I can say is how thankful & blessed I've been to have the fine firearms I've owned, some for a short time others long term. Getting older & its challenges can grate on some, it grates on me but again I'm blessed to have hunted, fished, & shot more than most, didn't miss much. Sad thing is how many collections I've bought & brokered from guys whose family wanted nothing to do with them, all they care about is $$.

  13. I've done that several times in the past. I've got a piece of stainless pipe to cut the core out. I cut 1-2" off the end of the core and save them to plug the ends. Then I take the rest of the core and put it in the food processor with whatever goodness I desire.... bbq sauce, cheese, spices, etc. Then I fix one end plug in place with toothpicks and pack as much of the mixture back in the bologna as will fit. I plug the other end and toss it on the smoker. If there's core mixture left over, it goes in the frying pan and makes a good snack while the smoker does it's thing. The bologna may get rotated periodically while on the smoker, depending on what I used for stuffing. All that said, it was pouring rain and I just didn't feel like putting forth that effort. And my kids prefer it plain. YMMV.

  14. This thread is a little depressing. Getting on in age is depressing enough without having to think about downsizing our toy collection. Down market right now, may pick up some when the real campaigning begins. Tupperware guns have flooded the market, reminds me of the old "Saturday Night Special" phase in the gun market. Cheap and everywhere!!!

  15. As said, she's applied and done ALL the requisite paperwork. We're touring later today, a stop in admissions is on our list as well. My concern is that BECAUSE it's such a big place that her application may get lost or missed, and she REALLY wants to be down here in the spring. But thanks for the advice. ROFL! Lol, she inherited my singing voice. She shows up a-caroling and they'll drop her application in the shredder... My only real concern is getting lost in the paperwork shuffle. I'm not really concerned about anonymity as a student, she'll find her way, I've seen her do it through a nasty divorce and 5 elementary schools is 6 years. Which I think, to answer your last question, is one of the big reasons she's planning on some sort of social work curriculum, she really wants to help kids navigate that whole ####-show.

  16. I forget who it was, but one of the major instructors once said "If you can't have your hand on the gun in one second or less, its useless". I'm a believer in that philosophy.

  19. Peejman spice that smoked bologna up by coring a hole down the center of the bologna and inserting a stick of Italian or your choice of smoked sausage in it before smoking. I used a pineapple corer with the slicer removed to make the hole . If you like baked potatoes use an apple corer to do the same thing, insert your favorite ingredients, plug the ends with the end of the removed core and bake, great potato bombs. Just pulled Canadian bacon and turkey breast off of my smoker about and hour ago. Yeah that smokey smell is lingering in the air as I type this.

  20. I got a Ruger New Model Super Blackhawk .44Mag in a trade tonight. A few “Firsts” for me. First Ruger Revolver, First Single action, First .44Mag. I’m pretty much a Smith & Wesson guy and I don’t know if I’ll be able to get onboard with this single action business, or if I’ll even keep this. But this thing is a monster. If I ran out of ammo; I could use it as a club.

  21. I doubt she'll have admissions issues, they're happy to take your money. It's a big school so it's easy to get lost in the crowd. Not doing so is entirely up to her. What's her major?

  22. I say this in the nicest way... I hate you guys... Where I get to hunt taking a 4 point would be a FANTASTIC day. Taking one of those might might cause me some cardiac arrest....

  25. What Greg said. UT Knox is a good school, but it’s not an exclusive one. If she wants to attend, they’ll be glad to wrap her in that god awful ugly ass shade of orange.

  26. Can you do me a favor? Can you go register on the Sig forum, post about what you found, and that you plan to unwrap the spare may, take it shooting in the rain, and replace a bunch of parts? Then report back here with a link so we can enjoy the show?
