  1. Congrats to you! Got mine back in June. It was in beautiful condition and yes, has a heavy trigger, but I got it more for the history aspect. Can't remember when I have been more excited as I was as my number got closer and closer. Mine was placed into service in Early '44 but I don't know if it saw action or not. Just part of the mystique.

  2. I got a Ruger New Model Super Blackhawk .44Mag in a trade tonight. A few “Firsts” for me. First Ruger Revolver, First Single action, First .44Mag. I’m pretty much a Smith & Wesson guy and I don’t know if I’ll be able to get onboard with this single action business, or if I’ll even keep this. But this thing is a monster. If I ran out of ammo; I could use it as a club.

  3. Oh yeah. Some people have openly bragged about buying the guns for the sole purpose of reselling them. Others have gone on to brag about how much they got for their CMP pistols. I even heard of one guy who filed applications for himself, his wife and a couple of grown kids just to make as much profit as possible on the guns. This totally violates the entire spirit of the CMP program. More often than not, CMP finds out about these people from other people who don't like what they've done. The rats are themselves ratted out. But, have no fear, the only place this one is going is to one of my sons after I'm gone from this world.

  4. Something that I discovered recently was that, surprisingly despite the smaller size of my hands, the Glock 19 platform that I had carried religiously for nearly 20 years really wasn't the best platform for me. Shocker! What I discovered was that the longer grip length of the Glock 17 not only put the grip's palm swell/hump in a location that fit my hand better, but I also benefited from using the the medium back strap as it gave me more surface area to get my support hand onto. More support hand on the grip itself and not overlapping my dominant hand fingers means more actual contact with the gun and therefore better recoil management, less muzzle rise, and faster split times. My world had basically been turned on its ear. While I still wasn't a fan of the additional length of the 17 for IWB carry, especially with a compensator hanging off the end of it, the Glock model 45 suddenly made a heck of a lot more sense to me than it ever had previously. Consequently, I've started to part ways with most of my Glock 19s and have picked up two G45s as their replacement. The added bonus of course is that the G45's slide is the same length as the G19's, so all of my holsters work just fine with them. This gun is my "pimped out" carry rig for when I'm feeling a little extra sassy and don't mind a little extra bulk on me. I sent the slide off to DP Custom Works and had Doug mill it for an RMR and mill the front top of the slide with extra cocking serrations to make press-checks a little easier. While he had the slide, he re-finished it in a tough black nitride, which looks fantastic and isn't as slick as the factory Gen 5 black nDLC. I added a ZEV Gen 5 curved trigger with their tuned ZEV Pro connector, ZEV suppressor height sights, a Crux Ordnance oversized mag release, a Silencerco threaded barrel, a Parker Mountain Machine comp, and hung one of my 1,000 lumen Surefire X300-UB lights off of it. The whole thing rides very easily in a Squared Away Customs "FOXTROT" outside the waistband holster or a Legacy Firearms Company light-bearing CRONUS inside the waistband holster. As for how it shoots, I've got the dot set for a 10-yard zero and stacking rounds in a cloverleaf within a 1-inch circle at that distance isn't a difficult task for me. ** Edited to Add: These photos were taken with an Agency trigger installed, before I swapped it out for the Zev curved trigger to keep things consistent across all of my Glocks **

  5. I was really surprised about a week ago when I got the call. I thought they had sold out this years batch. But the lady told me that some people had changed their minds and they still have some. I picked it up last Friday and took it to the range yesterday. Its a 1942 Colt frame with an Ithaca slide. Finish is about 80% with some noticeable wear and scratches. The #1 is painted on the grips. However the bore is perfect. So while it has seen some serious use, its seems to have been well taken care of. While it is a mix master, I noticed that there are no arsenal rebuild marks on it. No, its not as pretty as some of the fresh arsenal rebuilds some folks got. But this gun has been there and done that for 77 years. Its got character. It shoots just like an average military issue 1911. Nothing to brag about, but I was able to keep most of my shots in the black on a 12'X12" target. I attribute that to the small sights and a really heavy trigger. By my gauge the trigger is 8 lbs 12 oz. Which is perfectly normal for a G.I. issue pistol. I've got a set of new springs ordered. I may work on that trigger a little while I have it apart. Haven't really decided yet as I may leave it just like Uncle Sam issued it. Yeah, I'm aware that some of you spoke poorly of the guns and the whole program. But I now own a piece of history. I like it!

  6. Apparently police in NY state were involved in a standoff with a combat vet over a Red Flag matter. Reports are LE responded to a RF report and info that he had standard capacity mags. It was alleged that LE threatened his wife with involving CPS to gain access to the home. He used Instagram to send updates out and word is that folks mobilized and showed up to support him and observe police. It may be over now, not sure. I am thin on verified details right now, but will update as I get them. Any and all info in the first paragraph may be corrected later as verified information rolls in.

  8. The GD Red Flag "laws" are UNCONSTITUTIONAL...and need to be immediately revoked/removed/rejected/thrown OUT . They already killed at least one man over this BS because they CREATED the situation required to kill him.

  9. I am not quite sure if that is acceptable according to TWRA, however I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn Express lately. LOL We have loads of acorns also, you can't walk without stepping on 3 or 4. I have a overcup oak next to my barn and I would bet there are 3 or 4 pickup loads of acorns surrounding my barn.

  10. Hardly any acorns this year. Deer have worked their way into fields looking for something to eat.

  11. Wound up getting the CVA Hunter i 45-70. It shoots well. Ran through a bunch of mid range Loads plinking. Lot of fun and not much kick compared yo a Ruger Number One. Very pleased. May buy morr of these if they expand the caliber choices.

  13. GMW is my go to spot for ordering mags. They generally have mags in stock and at reasonable prices.

  14. The Glock 48 is thinner and not as tall/long. I have Concealment Express IWB Kydex holsters for both and the Glock 48 carries so much easier and comfortably. I carry a extra mag for the EDC I have on. So that is 21 rounds for the Glock 48 and 35 rounds for the Ruger SR9. Depends on what you want, less rounds but thinner/lighter or more rounds thicker/heavier. Still the Ruger SR9 is thinner than a regular Glock pistol. Both seem accurate to me but that is subjective. Both also seem to be well made. I get the Glocks for $380 before taxes/TICS (military program) so pricing is not that far off between them.
