  1. This hobby or our is absolutely loaded with stuff that makes no sense whatsoever….but people will spend huge amounts of cash on some of them.

  2. I'v all ways wanted to own one of these iconic guns but never had the loose cash for one. I all ways figured I'd run into a fixer upper and actually bought a ratted out one at a gun show that was a 44-40 SRC. It was rough but thought I could rebarrel it. Well, once I got it home and took a real good look at it, I found that the pitting on the sides of the receiver actually had all ready been belt sanded to way, way thinner receiver side walls. Basically, it was a wall hanger. I ended up selling it and got my money back despite a detailed description of the monkey work on the receiver. Well, like most things, if you have patience and a little luck, this one came my way by way of buying out an old BP gunsmith this past fall. This 92 was in the shop and he let it go with the rest of the stuff. It was missing all the barrel parts forward the receiver aside from its rotted out 25-20 octagon barrel. A few action parts were missing and the lower stock tang stock screw hole was welded solid. Considering I about tripled my investment on selling off all the BP parts, this 92 was less than free if there could be such a thing. Everygunpart.com & Ebay to the rescue! I figured I would build a 357 and found a Miroku made Winchester 1873 barrel on Ebay and snatched it up despite not knowing if it had the same threads. I only had to weld a second notch on the chamber face up and the barrel screwed right into the Winchester 92 action perfectly. A few weeks ago, everygunpart had a Rossi 357 Puma 92 for sale and I snatched that up for mainly the small diameter firing pin bolt assembly. I also used the Rossi cartridge guides, loading gate, bolt locks, mag cap and follower. By the time I sell all the other Rossi parts, Its still a relatively small cost. So, anyway, the Gun Gods were extra good to me on this since the barrel clocked out perfectly tight onto the receiver with the extractor cut dead on at its 12 O clock position. On top of that, the head space with the Rossi bolt was dead on!!! Whats the chances of THAT? I should have ran out and bought some lotto tickets.....but didn't. The Ebay forend was sanded below metal fit so I shortened the forend front and rear by about 1/8th each and re cut the wood into the cap and receiver. I hate when people sand those edges down. Miroku soldered the mag ring onto the barrel so I did the same with an original ring since they had a large diam ring on there. All in all, the gun came out as a nice shooter with a franken twist. I finally own a some what, kinda, sorta original 1892! and yeah, I like the folding Marlin sight....

  4. I've got a 4" blue and love it. The Security Six is an outstanding revolver. Perhaps not quite as refined as a S&W or Colt, but they're right up there close. Around $500 sounds right. I've been watching locally for years trying to buy a 2.75 inch version and if I was to stumble across a 6" for sale, I'd likely buy it. However you just don't see them for sale very often anymore. The folks that got 'em, tend to keep 'em. I truly believe the biggest mistake Ruger ever made was discontinuing the Six Series revolvers.

  5. To answer a couple of questions..... Anything starting with a '2' or better will kill TN deer at all ranges you'll ever be shooting. Caliber is totally subjective, to be honest. My go-to deer rifle is a 6.5 Swede, among a stable of .308s, '-06s, .358s etc..... It's soft recoil, flat trajectory & wind-bucking ability at longer ranges find me picking it up more often than not. I've shot deer with bullets from 95gn, right up to 160s & they've all universally killed the deer, dead as a wedge. It's far from being my lightest or prettiest gun, but I know exactly how it shoots from the muzzle out to 500yds (if need be) I'm an unabashed fan of Vortex optics. Scopes, binos, the works. My 6.5 is topped with a bottom of the range, $150 Crossfire 4-12x42 (I think) with the bdc reticle & I don't think I've ever cranked it above 8 power (I actually prefer 2-7 power scopes for hunting) If I HAD to only keep one hunting gun for the rest of my life, it'd be my Tikka T3x in .30-06 It'll happily kill anything I'm ever going to shoot with it (including a 450lb cow elk, a couple of weeks back)

  6. Agreed, but Burris, C-More, Docter, and Vortex are popular, too. Delta Point Pro is supposedly different from Delta Point and different Vortex sights use different mounts. TGO David, not knocking your gun--it's a nice rig. I'm tinkering with a gen5 17 with a Delta Point Pro myself, but it's strictly a competition gun. I may carry a red dot someday, but don't feel the need right now. From my experience, irons are faster under 10 or 12 yards. Red dots fogging up make me nervous, too. A red dot carry gun certainly has merit in an active shooter scenario, though. Hell, there are those who claim sights are unnecessary/useless in a gunfight.

  7. Kahrman, I've tried that peanut butter whiskey...its an odd duck that's for sure. My favorite mostly attainable "premium" drink of the past couple years is still Willett 4yr Barrel Proof Rye (110ish)...around here in East TN I think it runs about $49ish....I prefer it over any of my $100+ and unobtanium stuff....anything Knob Creek is always solid too. I have a Willett Family Estate 11 year bottle I wish I had never opened (worth roughly $500-700 if I hadn't) and I can say that once you get past $100 the law of diminishing returns really kicks in. I had got it on Black Friday years ago for $110

  9. It's a nice gun show for it's size, in one large room, nice restrooms, super nice facility. C&E Shows doesn't have one scheduled for the remainder of this yr. ( so far ). RK shows has the next one in this area, in Lebanon, Dec. 21,22, 2019. The 'Boro show is bigger than the Lebanon show. I usually make both.

  11. There's a whole lot of WTF going on there. The rear hatch on that Humvee is opened and both cops are pointing their guns at the windshield. That laser is a joke and at least he has the grip pod installed correctly

  14. Just ordered the 1st item on my list. We bulk purchase a good bit of our foods, meats in particular, and use a Food Saver Game Saver vacuum sealer. We also use it for veggies from our garden that we don't usually can. The price of the sealing bags is what can hit you hard. But each year around this time Food Saver has a 50% off sale with free shipping. ( food saver dot com). Normal price is $28.99 for a 3 roll pack of the 11" x 16' bags. You have to order 6 boxes to get the discount... that's right at the number we used last year. I just ordered the 6 boxes for $95.00. There are several places having this sale if you shop around.

  16. I have considered the Ruger American along with the Weatherby Vanguard. I had a Vanguard in 30 06 which I can reload. Gave it to my grandson(15 y o) who killed a large 8 point with it last year. Gave my Marlin 336 to the other hunting grandson(11 y o) in Charleston SC last year. I am currently out of a big rifle capable of taking deer. Mostly just shoot paper now with grandsons, and was looking at the 6.5 Creedmoor. Don't know if I will ever hunt again(may-be), but feel a big want for a good rifle capable of taking mid size deer around 100/200 yards. The $1,000 mark is a celling, and would be served even better around $500.00. That is why I have considered the Ruger and Weatherby. Not many Mossberg rifles locally, and lost my FFL dealer that I could get guns shipped through. He retired. My local gun store has a Thanksgiving Day customer appreciation days starting next week. They always have good prices on all their guns. He had a big selection of scoped Rugers. I like Lupehold(S?), Burros, and Vortec scopes on the lower end side in price. I am in the chase stages now and enjoying looking. Will take a bargain if I can find one, but plan to have one by spring. I have hunted with 243, 30 30, 270, 30 06 and 12 Ga, with rifled brl, slug gun. All were adequate. Told my 15 Y O grandson I was considering a 6.5 and he lit up like a bulb. Said he had been reading about them and all his buddies were also. The 15 Y O grandson is the one who I posted about getting burned. His Dr told him he was recouping so well he could deer hunt if he didn't scratches himself. He is elated and been chomping at the bit to get in his blind or tree stand. His mom said if dad went with him, they could this next weekend. The rut is starting this week around here in mid TN. Our pet doe, with 2 last years fawns, has been chased, the last 2 days, by a young 6 pointer. She lives in the woods behind our home. He has been in our back yard the last 3 days, at daylight, and several times per day. This has flung a large craving upon me. It is always fun to go on the search for a new gun, and I thought if I purchase one I just might try the Creedmoor. I know it has been out for a while and just became the new flavor of the day. I know it is supposed to be a paper target long range gun, but everyone is sure preaching that caliber. I will not walk away form a good rifle bargain though. It is 7:30 and I just heard a big rifle shot close by. Guess someone got one, hopefully. Just heard a follow up shot from the same direction. Oh-Well, Thanks for the advice, and comments guys.

  17. Yea, heard the same and came to the same conclusion. So either he knew his round count or just got "lucky". Unless of course it was a figure of speech, meaning the last round he fired, not the last in the gun.

  18. I'm sorry it hasn't worked out for you yet, @Defender, and I hope it eventually does. As far as hindsight goes, don't beat yourself up too much. It's possible that things could've turned out even worse if you'd met up. I imagine it would be very hard to calmly watch someone walk away with your gun after you've shown them that it's yours, and not theirs, and they disagree. I'm hoping the wheels are just turning slowly on this, and not stopped.

  19. I'm really not worried about any of that. If Trijicon announces that they are discontinuing the RMR series for some reason, I'll buy a few more of them and put them away as spares. And OEM Glock slides are cheap and easily sourced, and there are plenty of aftermarket options as well. The RMR footprint has become something of a standard already like Rebels pointed out. The only other footprint being treated somewhat the same is the Leupold Delta Point Pro, simply because of their MIL contract.

  21. Before you drop the hammer on that, handle the Henry pump action 22 mag. Ergonomically speaking, the lever is nothing short of awkward by comparison. I don't buy much at all in the way of new guns, but If I had to scratch that kind of itch, I'd do that pump without thinking twice on it. I have a number of various lever guns and a couple old Marlin pump 22's. I like em both but a good pump action walks away from a lever in handling hands down.

  22. I’ve got both .308 and 6.5 Cr rifles. They’re both great. Neither one is a wrong choice. I think you’ll be happy with whatever direction you go. What will make the biggest impact here will be your choice of glass.

  23. Thanks! Pretty much what Rebels010 said, plus the MOS mounting system doesn't provided a whole lot of threaded metal (and consequently uses shorter mounting screws) for the optic's screws to thread into.

  24. Puts the sight lower and less failure points as the MOS adds an extra attachment point. Most milled sights fit it tight as a glove too.

  25. They don’t have time to put it on the news. They are too busy telling us every night about how many people the convicted felons in possession of stolen firearms shot that day.

  28. I didn’t care for Tin Cup. Nelson’s might be one to try. I was in Las Vegas over the weekend and tried Old Rip VanWinkle 10yr. They had 12 15 18 and 23 year Pappy. Trying all would have cost me more than I spent gambling for the weekend.

  32. Wouldn't surprise me, LOL. It is stamped Made In USA. Other than that, I wouldn't venture to imply anything. I've got to give this little jewel a better run than I did when I got it. If it works out ok, hopefully the TGO faithful can sleep better at nite.

  33. Picked up two new bottles this weekend. The first is the Sinatra Select Jack Daniels. It is a little pricey but is the best Jack Daniels I have tried. Smooth, flavorful with no burn. The second bottle I picked up just because they were having a tasting. I am looking at some whiskeys and I hear this lady telling somebody about a peanut butter whiskey. I walk over and ask Did you say Peanut Butter Whiskey? She said yes and asked if I wanted a sample. The disgusted look on my face made her say just try it. I was pleasantly surprised. It is a little syrupy and kinda coats the mouth. It has a butterscotch/caramel flavor. I think this will be really good mixed with some hot chocolate or used to make a boozy milkshake. I will not drink this straight but I will definitely use it as a mixer. It is pretty cheap also, just $26.
