This is pretty cool. I don’t shoot competitively anymore, so I can’t justify the cost of one of these, but to me they are an excellent example of the shift in gun making. There is very little old school conventional “Gunsmithing” going on at Ed Brown. But there is a lot of high performance, high accuracy machining by quality Machinists, Programmers, and QA inspectors. I’ve spent my life in manufacturing. I’ve heard it all like “Things aren’t made as good as in the old days”, something must be right because “It is CNC machined” or something is special because it was “Designed in CAD”. I just smile when I see these kinds of statements. Truth is, we have far surpassed any that could be done quality wise in “the old days”. Unless someone is doing “One off” protype work or working in their garage; most everything is “CNC Machined”. And everything is “Designed in CAD”. Does that mean everything today is better than it was in the past? Absolutely not. These technologies still rely on the Machinists and the programmers (many times the same person) using them. CNC machines can make junk, and they can make it fast. These CNC machines only do what they programmer tells them to do. If he programs the part wrong; the machine will make it wrong. CNC machines are high drama. They require Machinists and Programmers that are on top of every little detail, every single minute. They require inspectors that are checking all critical dimensions, all the time. If you have high accuracy, quality machines, and you have the best Machinists and Programmers. You can make extremely accurate parts that don’t require any hand fitting; they fit together to extremely tight tolerances and work every time. In 1992 Ed Brown quit gunsmithing and went strictly design and manufacture. He retired at 65 and turned the business over to his family. With what he put in place; it can carry on. So, what does this mean to you? Well, it means you can buy a high-quality competition for gun for $2K instead of 10K. It also means if you need a replacement part, it can be shipped to you and dropped in without requiring a gunsmith. Sorry for the trip down memory lane, this isn't something new, but when I saw this; I saw a good example of a positive change with people involved that are dedicated to quality. I don’t own one of these guns, but I’d sure like to; I bet they are really something. Why doesn’t Smith & Wesson or Glock or anyone else do this? Because then they can’t sell their guns for $300-$400. But change is happening on a daily basis; someday they will. https://www.edbrown.com/fueled-series/5 points

I just finished four days of classes at www.valorridge.com in Harrogate Tn. Rifleman 1 & Rifleman 2. Was recommended to me by a close friend who told me "Book way out because this guy's classes are always filled" Having finished the classes, I highly recommend it, in fact I am extremely pleased with what I learned and how I shot after the instruction. First off the people are fantastic individuals - as people. Really interested in the success of each student. Just good people. Solid Patriots. No yelling or screaming, positive reinforcement. But very strict on safety Reid Henrichs is a fantastic teacher and instructor and has the actual field experience to back up what he teaches The facility is first class with distances out to 600 yards for long shots. Has a shoot house for teaching neighborhood defense, home defense, room clearing. Second class of 7 i was in had three students that had trained at Valor Ridge before and came back for more - they all drove 10+ hours to attend. I was the only one from close by - two from PA, two from FL, one from DC, one from KS which tells you a lot. So if you are looking for world class training right here in TN I highly recommend Valor Ridge3 points

I would agree the holster industry is well stocked with plenty of options and choices to suit most of our preferences. Regarding "ugly" holsters, I personally don't find kydex ugly. While maybe not a pretty as a fine piece of leather, it more than makes up for it in versatility IMO. The changeability of the cant, amount of drop, and amount of retention is its strong suit over leather. You mentioned the Crossbreed Holster. I personally have never liked the "hybrid" Kydex & Leather combination. I find the 100% kydex to suit my carry style better since it's the least bulky option available. To me, bulk = uncomfortable.3 points

Well, I picked up an old suit of armor at a yard sale............Just kidding. Seriously tho, did get the thing installed, which took a bit of doing, gave it a bit of a try on a small cut. Worked good. Chain didn't fly off, ran smooth. Think this gadget just may work ok. I'll give it a better trial when I get to something worthwhile. Stay tuned, I guess, LOL.3 points

So S&W, the gun manufacturer (and traditional best) is being spun off so to speak and compartmentalized shortly after the Supremes refuse to hear a case regarding liability of gun manufacturers. Coincidence? I think not.2 points

DLTTrading.com. They drop tomorrow morning (Friday the 15th) at 0900CST. Unlike Spyderco exclusive drops, I don’t expect these will sell out in minutes. You should have plenty of time to get one. Between these guys and St. Nicks Knives down in Huntsville, I don’t know that you’ll find nicer folks. Their customer service is great, and they’re just the salt of the earth.2 points

Great post Dave. Thanks Edited to add; I had a cousin there on Omaha. Most decorated man of WWII in Kentucky. He had 9 purple hearts. Claude Jack Reed was his name. I spoke at his funeral a few years ago. His wife told me he never had a good nights sleep, after he came home, unless he was medicated which he refused. He would sleep a couple hours, get up, and listen to the radio, and drink coffee. He was a good man. I worked at the Post Office and a co worker, whos husband worked at the local VA Hosp, and for all intents and purposes was a draft dodger hiding in college rather than getting drafted, said all those patients were just drug attics and drunkards. It infuriated me. I turned around and told her she had no Idea what she was talking about. I told her she couldn't imagine the things some of these men seen, and done to mankind, and as a result the daemons floating in some of these men's heads as a result. I told her not to judge them too harshly.2 points

A couple of buddy's and myself were able to get on a land owner exemption list and are doing some pig hunting. I took the first one the other night. We are hunting over a feeder that is on a timer and the pigs seem to be all trained up. I spent a bunch of years hunting pigs unsuccessfully but I believe I've finally figured out enough to have some success within the past couple of years. I certainly don't mind to discuss strategy and tactics, but I will not discuss where I am hunting. This one was a smaller 40ish pounder that came in with 6 others. My buddy and I agreed to shoot on 3, he counted and forgot to shoot, and I took home the bacon. He was still nice enough to help me dress it and it was on ice in less than an hour after shooting. One thing for sure is that the rest of them don't stick around. I swear they were fine before the bullet hit this one. http://imgur.com/gallery/uDv3d45 For some reason I am unable to embed the picture.1 point

I thoroughly enjoyed the Lebanon show at the armory. Relatively small, but packed. Only bought one gun and would have bought a couple if I had more gun money.1 point

As a pretty serious competitive shooter, I submit that most shooters can put $200 worth of work/parts into their stock Glock or M&P and use the $1200-1800 they saved by not buying one of these EB guns on practice ammo and be much better off. A $2500 M&P? I'll take a 2011 if I'm throwing around that kind of money for one gun.1 point

FWIW, if you get one of these, bear in mind, this is not a one piece item. There are two halves ( top & bottom ), and the chain. The tangs on the chain fit between the two halves & makes a groove like a chainsaw bar. Not a big deal, just took a bit of finger work to keep it in place while tightening the spanner nut. Have fun!1 point

I have seen where there is a company making a optics mount that goes into where the rear sight sets. Also there are a few companies making night and fiber optic sights for the G3. I believe the G2/G3 sights are the same. I have put some more rounds thru the G-3, had one fail to feed from the 17 round mag. The 15 rounder failed 3 times to lock the slide back, I cleaned the mag and had no more problems. So far I do not think I would carry as a self defense pistol yet. I am getting better with accuracy and find it shoots a little better than at first, may be me.1 point

Thanks Jim, something else I never knew I always needed That should be good and rigid enough to destroy about anything. I'd put it into the dremel category. Feels like you can do anything, but is an excercise in self control. Remove "just a little bit more" from you vocabulary! Happiness and tears seem a fine line. But I'm still getting it. My wifes rule when he hears a dremel, grinder, or similar newness removal tool fire up is "you are not allowed to swear or replace it if its expensive". I remind her thats two rules and she can only have one.1 point

With no snow on the ground, finding rabbit sign is tough but not impossible. Look for overgrown fence rows, blackberry brambles, brushy creek banks, brush piles, etc. Most anything that provides overhead cover should be suspect. Another good place to look is along railroad beds. Early mornings are best as the rabbits will be trying to sun themselves after a cold night. Keep the sun at your back and move slow and quiet with pauses every few yards. If you're constantly on the move, the rabbit may try to 'wait you out' and let you walk right on by. Pausing makes them nervous and they may break cover giving you a shot. Good luck and safe hunting.1 point

Is there a distinction to be made between optimal temperature for brewing and for serving? I don't know enough about coffee to know. I need oil at 325* or so to make french... er, FREEDOM... fries but I don't want my kids touching them right out of the oil. Also, is Jeaux a man or a woman? (Possibly a non-gendered being?) Just curious...1 point

I’ve had my eye on one in natural micarta - the sheepsfoot seals the deal for me. On a similar note, this Smith and Sons lockback sod buster is one of my all time favorites. It’s only available every now and then, but if I was looking for a small knife, a sod buster profile would be in the running.1 point

The very first brand new rifle I bought when I turned 18 in 1977 was a M1A. SN 006022. It was a nice rifle but accuracy was out the window once the barrel got warm. Nation Matching the bedding points is some what of a fix but not an easy job and takes on wear with cleaning take downs. I sold it when Springfield started selling SAR48's and that rifle is the nut. After tuning it up to my liking, I at one time fired 10 rounds in 5/8ths" group @ 100yds. Hand weighed & prepped cases with W748 behind Sierra 168g BTHP Match kings. Typically the AR's will out shoot a FAL but the history, parts and field reliability loom large in the FAL's corner. The HK is a decent rifle but they are far more rough on the brass with their fluted chamber walls and the sheet metal stamping of a receiver is a huge negative compared to the sleek FAL's milled bolt guides. AK 308's are built AK reliable but what you inadvertently get with that is an over gassed weapon with a high piston over barrel bore that inherently creates way more barrel whip that the close to bore piston of the FAL. Speaking as a trained Gunsmith, a properly built FAL is the best bang for the buck in SHTF hardware. In that scenario, adjustable gas launches it past the more accurate AR guns. The M1A is simply out dated with its multi point bedding system compared to FAL barrel harmonic geometry. I like the M1A but I love the FAL design. So much so.... I hang FAL lowers on more than just their uppers! Best buy right here...DSA w/ life time warranty1 point

I would not be at all surprised it they didn't add a "special" hunting season!! I am still in shock that the TWRA charges people who are blind, in wheel chairs and disabled vets to hunt and fish. Albeit the charge is $10 for life, I think that is scraping the bottom of the barrel. Just my opinion.1 point

What in the 'Cali-compliment, parts bin, 6 beer, lost youth' hell am I seeing here?? There are VERY few firearms that are aesthetically unpleasant, but this one takes the cake, flips off the baker, slams the door & flicks a match into the damn bakery! Jesus!1 point

Low and slow is king. Just like cooking something tough like a brisket - long, low heat really breaks down those tougher muscle fibers and renders the fat well.1 point
