  1. No. Good. Well heck then; let me try to explain, maybe others will jump in and help. This country was founded on Christian morals and beliefs. that’s not opinion; that’s fact. However, that is something very different than legislating or giving preference to any religion. There is nothing in our history or our Constitution that bans anything based on religion. Separation of Church and State has to do with oversight and procedures. It doesn’t mean that the Federal government can’t recognize God, the Bible, or institute religious holidays. The same amendment that keeps religion from being forced on people by the government, also allows people to openly chastise others when they make statements about religion they don’t like. To you it’s a “feel good” gesture. To many others it’s something far more than that; and well worth the cost.

  2. I'll bite...why does prayer and fasting need to come with governmental encouragement? If Gov. Lee wanted to encourage this, he has a platform, he doesn't need to use the state level proclamation. I'm all for people praying and fasting as required by their faith, or as they wish to do as individuals for their own spiritual reasons. I'm just 100% against the government involvement, no matter how benign, because I believe government has zero place in matters of faith. It's also pretty Christian centered. Jews won't be able to participate in the fasting, what with Oct. 10th coming immediately after they already will have done for Yom Kippur...thought that could be an oversight. And I'm sure we won't get spooked at all if we see Muslims openly engaging in their 5x daily prayers on this day.

  3. The back ground for this project is off a deal I made with my son this past Christmas. In lue of any Christmas gifts, I would just do some basic gunsmith work on his guns threw the year. So, he buys this CBRPS bullpup stock for his SKS and the trigger system the thing has is a sliding trigger and rails system that just flat out would not work the action reliably no matter what I did to it. Pure crapola! In frustration, I decided to ditch the bulk of the SKS trigger system for a much simpler mil spec parts set that would run the SKS hammer. With this new set up I could modify the bull pup trigger into a pull forward connecting rod rather that the sliding trigger and rails that originally were supposed to work the stock SKS trigger. The new parts I used were a M1 Carbine trigger and a FAL trigger seer cut to fit the carbine trigger. With these fit and positioned just right, I achieved a perfect zero creep single stage pull on the nearly stock SKS hammer. The final product pull weight is running 10.5 pounds but with the super wide aluminum trigger, it feels much lighter and no creep is a pleasure in any thing that goes bang. Here you can see how it all hooks up with the main trigger now pivoting on its own axis pin rather than that of a sliding assembly. And I installed a HK grip over the plastic nub of a grip that was there. The original mag system for this stock was cut tapco mags. Once again, just crapola in the raw. One of the tapcos was cut a little off and basically made it an example of why you should not cut these mags without a true jig that replicates the correct angles consistently. Rock & lock on this tight a unit is very un-natural. So, the solution was to install one of Marcus's G-9 adapters that would let me run AR mags but in my case, I would only do it if I could modify the receiver and BHO to function off Stock, UN cut ASC AR mags. And that is what you see on this pup. For this to be reality, it takes no more than 1 hour of machine work on the receiver and some minor reconfiguration of the bolt hold open plate. And these mods will not hinder the rifles function in the least if one were to put the stock fixed 10 round box back on the receiver. Marcus has all the technical machine operations needed to run the G-9 adapter with factory stock AR mags. In addition to the receiver mods for this, the drop free bolt mod is slightly different since the bolt needs to be narrowed a tad more and the length of the cut needs to be lengthened slightly so as to effect a clean pick up of cartridges from the un cut AR mag. Also, the inherit design of the AR mag with its straight body on top of its curved portion, demands a pair of 5 & 7 O-clock feed ramps be cut into the chamber face. Otherwise, when the follower gets light pressure under the forward part of the cartridges, the bullet tip will stab the chamber face just below the chamber mouth. The AR chamber face configuration does not suffer from this problem since its ramped lugs pitch the bullet up into the chamber right from the git go. The other issue I had to resolve was what was to be used as a folding rear sight that would be rock solid yet able to move left & right for windage so I could pre align the base so my knob adjustment could maintain center of the protective wings. The pictures show the solution with 2 belly screws threw the ladder sight, once loosened allows the sight base to move left or right threw oblong cut screw holes in the aluminum base body. Personally, I'm not a fan of bull pups in general but this is something my son wanted to play with so this one is as practical a shooter as I could have made it. The barrel is just a tad over 16" and it does in fact shoot where you point it!

  6. A little older S&W. A 422 or 622 in 6"barrel. I picked up a 6" 422 a few years ago for ~200. Mags are not cheap though. The "Target" model has adjustable rear sights.

  7. You used a whole lot of words to not explain anything relevant to my post. The gesture, and it is only a gesture, was a net negative on the budget. Therefore, it cost me, as a tax paying citizen of TN money. Money that would be better spent fifty other ways. It is governmental waste, and should be chastised as such.

  9. Thanks for that info. I had never even heard of that. I added it to the list because it is in modern production, and I think it deserves consideration. But it’s also at a price I really can’t justify for a .22 target, and if I could I think I’d have to go with the S&W Model 41.

  11. Wasn't separation of church and state as much about keeping the church out of government as it was keeping the government out of the church business? Regardless, thats not whats important here. I don't understand how its okay to complain that the government overspends on chair or toilet seats or whatever, but complaining that wasted time on a meaningless proclamation gets you chastised like you are the enemy. I appreciate a feel good gesture just as much as the next guy. But if given the opportunity, I'd rather spend my money on something else.

  12. I bought my first Henry .22 about five years ago. It was followed by a .44, .357 and 45-70.

  13. Exactly. But you are going to see a lot of folks willing to change. You are witnessing a big change in handgun optics. A lot of companies are putting big bucks into the development of these small, extremely sturdy, red dots that can take the abuse of carry, or eventually even of Police Duty Weapons. Yeah, Yeah, I know there are some cops using them already, but they aren’t mainstream yet. In a couple of years, they will be even tougher. And they won’t be $400 (Shield RMSc used on Hellcat samples); they will be $100. The optic in the Hellcat isn’t built in; you have to buy it. It was test samples went out with them already installed. The Vortex Venom, Viper or the Burris Fastfire, you can catch on sale for $200 now. I’m sure it won’t be long before reasonably priced models are available by many handgun manufacturers. These sub compacts are belly guns; they don’t even need sights. But some very good marketing people are giving folks what they want. It’s technology; you can’t stop it. Lead, follow, or get out of the way.

  16. Why do we need elected officials to tell us (or suggest perhaps in this case) when it’s time to pray and fast? That is not what they are elected for.

  18. Well I called them back this morning asking to speak to the supervisor I spoke to yesterday and she said she didn't know who I spoke to. So she asked for the Transaction # on the papers I received. I gave them and she looked it up and said oh he granted your appeal yesterday after reviewing your claim again. Just glad to be able to take the thing home after a week. But I emailed the FBI and they're sending me the VAF form and Fingerprint card through the mail so I can get a UPIN. It might not work on future firearm purchases but it can't hurt either. Thanks again for all the info and responses, I much appreciated it.

  23. Doesn't take a budgetary line item for tax dollars to be spent. Gubernatorial proclamations aren't written on lunch napkins and hung on the bulletin board, they take staff work to prep, and the release is usually done with some kind of public event. That's work which will be put in by employees on the state payroll, who could otherwise be administrating the business of the state. Even Gov. Lee has spent time on this that could otherwise be put to use, ya know, governing. The decision itself, or incorporating the First Amendment to the states? There were a lot of upset anti-gun folks when the McDonald case kept incorporation of the Bill of Rights going by extending the Heller protections to the states.

  24. Oh ho. I have one of these also, and it's totally magnificent. New models have that awful safety and a 20" barrel. The pre-safety version with 16-inch barrel is rarer than an honest politician. Hold onto yours. Mine will never be for sale. My kids and I fired thousands of .38 Special SWCs through mine in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and it is still going strong. And a .357 JHP out of a 16-inch barrel would be an impressive home defense round.

  25. Marlin and Henry both make excellent lever guns. I can't knock either one. However, I've always preferred the feel and handling of Winchesters. Especially the 16" Trapper Models. In .357, I'd highly recommend you look at the Rossi Model 92. Its a clone of the original Winchester Model 1892. Its a bit lighter and trimmer than the Model 94 and Marlins. It was originally designed for pistol caliber cartridges, so its a bit smoother and more reliable than other guns modified to shoot the shorter handgun rounds. These are currently made by Taurus and I've heard good things about them. I own a much older pre-safety Rossi 92 in .357 with a 16" barrel. Nothing fancy to look at as these older guns had somewhat plain finishes and wood. However, Its one of the slickest and fastest handling lever guns I've ever owned. I love it!

  26. The new Marlins I saw at the NRA show this year seem to be better than the past few years. Action is smoother and the fit and finish seems better but it’s hard to beat Henry quality.

  28. To all my Brothers and Sisters in this thing I call Creation, may the peace and love of the Lord Jesus Christ be with each of you. I come you a beggar for your prayers that Almighty God will have mercy on this great nation of ours and that He would touch the hearts and mind of those who believe the concept that late term abortion is acceptable. Up until the time of birth would indicate until the fetus is physically separated from the mother, it's not a person. There are a few species lower on the food chain whose unborn have greater legal protection. To save the life of the mother is as convenient as in cases of rape or incest. I recently had an acquaintance ask me what would it take to get us back on track. "A great Christian Revival, except that many professed Christians have made it hard to fill the tent and recruit." I pray the Lord blesses and protects each and everyone of you and that He showers you with with His unconditional love, mercy, forgiveness, and grace!
