So sounds like the jury here finds he is likely crazy (not knowing info about the psych hold), the family had solid ground (though the clearly had no idea of what they were looking at), and was therefore apt to be a danger to others? Also, damages should it not be the case are irrelevant as confiscation is a must, and media portrayal and misinformation are non issues? Hmmm...well that is what news 6 wants you to beleive, so sounds like job done. Good one media. I'm not surprised by the proponent, but the reasons are not know for that conclusion. Could very well be the old man was trying to stop the knowledgeable 'family' from doing exact what folks are pointing out (calling the cops) and they ended up causing the very problem. In trying to stop them, they report he is irate or whatever....boom psych issues. Assuming crazy gun owner first is very sad to see. We just don't know. I'll wait till he's been evaluated and the story is vetted before assuming getting old automatically makes you unstable or a danger. I never support the media painting gun collectors as cooks, that any collection is an arsenal (or other inflammatory representations), and factual misrepresentation. Unfortunate it does not seem to bother others, but of course, that is why they are winning over minds and we are seeing swings in opinions.3 points

Not anything will "sound good," trust me. I've been making my living as a musician for 45 years. When you find one that sounds good to YOU, buy IT. Don't take a "new one in the box out of the back." I found a Martin in a pawn shop in Hendersonville that had a $200 price tag on it because it had been autographed by the guys in Alabama. Guy said no one wanted to even look at it because of the Sharpie scrawls on it. I played it. It was hands down the best sounding acoustic I'd ever played. It records with flat EQ, and sounds wonderful. Always get the one that sounds right to YOU.2 points

Except even the aircraft guys will tell you that it's a bad idea to make such a decision based off a single analysis. You need (according to most mechanics) a long, preferably lifetime series of analyses to compare with ...2 points

So how much rifle ammo did he have? I mean I take more than that with me to the range.... Sounds like the bump stock was the least of his issues.2 points

Defender became even better as the newer Windows 10 levels roll out.I remember seeing recently some tests done by Avira I think-rated Defender very good.I have also used it since Windows 10 came out.1 point

And you have to know what the various internal parts are made of for the data to be worthwhile. Most auto manufacturers don't publish that sort of info. And very few car owners ever see their oil filters much less know if its gone into bypass. Theres lots of tools used to determine relative health of an engine. Oil analysis is just one.1 point

Defender is good as it is built for Windows and does a good job. Might be better out there but you'll have to pay. As said do your part and back up off the machine and watch where you go and what you download and you will be safer. I have used Defender since Windows 10 rolled out.1 point

I don't know, $30 to make a decision on a engine replace, rebuild, or buy something different seems a fair.1 point

Microsoft says it is. I use Norton because that is what Xfinity includes now. I’ve used both Norton and McAfee the last several years. They have both saved me a few times. No virus software is 100%. Any of them could be hit by the latest ransomware; and the chances are pretty good you have lost everything on that machine. That’s why I use multiple backups with multiple external and internal hard drives. I use Acronis backup software. It’s a hard drive imaging software; I use that because I don’t want to have to reload all my applications if I must restore from a backup. Safe computing techniques can also save your butt. So, my opinion is, no, no single antivirus is sufficient protection. But if I was going to use a free one; Windows Defender would be my first choice. No matter which one you use; you are as good as your last backup, that is not on the machine in question. I have had more hard drive mechanical failures with a potential for loss of data than I have had losses due to virus.1 point

That's okay, I just thought you might already have some, and I would post them up for you.1 point

Well, David at Guitar Center played some high end guitars and the Epiphone for us. We didn't care for the sound of the Epiphone version of the J-45 at all so that was out. He played a $5,249 Gibson J-2000 that didn't impress us. He played that for us because I'm a big guy and my wife thought it would fit me better. He played a Gibson Hummingbird Standard that they had priced at $3,800. It did indeed sound brighter and louder than the J-45 put still not our choice. He then played us a J-45 Walnut M and a J-45 Mahogany. Both were under $2,000 and we liked them because they seemed more mellow with a more full range in tone. I preferred the sound of the Mahogany version and was surprised that I could hear a difference. Lastly, David played a J-15 which actually impressed us; however, I'm leaning towards the J-45 because I think it'll hold value better. He also played a Martin for us that we didn't care for either. To your point about 5 J-50's sounding different I would agree given the difference between the two J-45's that were played, and both David and another experienced guitar player in the room said the same thing. Frankly, that makes getting one from Gibson without hearing it first a little tough to do. I know anything will sound good, but will it sound right to me? It's was kind of weird that high end guitars didn't sound better than the mid range guitars. I guess you're paying more for the artsy detail on the guitar rather than the sound.1 point

Well, I did end up going out for a while this morning. Unfortunately, not to the gun show. Bent over to pick up shoe and popped the back again. Emergency visit to chiropractor was needed. Now, I'm supposed to do nothing at all till I head for surgery. I had a few personal things scheduled today; like going thru boxes of books for keeping and selling. That's out. At least for 6 weeks or so. I'll be doing slow walks around here and that's about it. Getting old sucks!1 point

I’ve posted here many times that if someone can’t handle their own family business; the cops will do it for you if you call them. You think you don’t like some of my opinions here; think about all the people that had to deal with me showing up and taking over running their family for them. Most didn’t like the outcome.1 point

This is a rare point where we agree on something regarding LE. Cops aren’t social workers. The general public needs to stop trying to use them as such. They’re a blunt instrument that is to be used when the application of force is required.1 point

Having gone through this with family members and watching friends go through it, there are far worse things than worrying about someone’s gun collection once their mind starts going. I’m sure the family has reasons for what they are doing. Of course, no one is interested in hearing that story, it wouldn’t get nearly as much discussion as the perception the government was seizing this guy’s guns. The real shame here, besides his probable condition, is that families are not aware that the Police don’t need to be involved in this. Too often they don’t know how to handle it, and because guns are involved they call the Police.1 point

It's truly impressive to me that the 6 news team knows what those cans are full of ammo, from their chopper no less. And that Dann the man knows that charges will be filed. Of course, maybe he interviewed the neighbors, some of them seem to be experts on all sorts of things. Maybe the guy was a crap neighbor, but that doesn't mean he's the threat his neighbors already seem to have judged him to be. I hope he's cleared, gets his collection back intact, and is compensated as appropriate. I also hope all of those neighbors can see fit to be a bit more neighborly in the future.1 point

He’s a court certified mental defective, that lied on his 4473 and then started making threats. (or phone calls that someone interpreted as possibly being threats) So he was going to be arrested bump stock or not. Looks like someone was doing their job, and this is a good thing; correct?1 point

As soon as the FED lowered the rate a few weeks ago, I put some money into a few 12 month CD's at Ally. I got 2.5%. Not a huge amount of money, not a killer interest rate, but it's something. Something to mention is that even though the money is "locked in", the penalty is 60 days worth of interest. Which means, if you can make it 60 days into the CD, if you absolutely, 100% had to get that money out, you'd break even at the 60 day mark and come out ahead any point after that.1 point
