I started with corrective lenses in the 7th grade, now wear progressive tri-focals. The only time I don't have 'em on is when I turn out the lights at night, and put 'em on before I take a step in the morning. Go see your eye doctor on a regular basis. I have to go every 6 months for early stages of glaucoma.2 points

Test should also include the oil packages and check for unwanted contaminants in the oil not just metal. If done correctly a oil sample analysis program can be a great thing especially for fleet or emergency equipment or equipment you want to have for a long while.2 points

My Rock Island pistol finally arrived last week. Took her to the range and fed a few rounds through it. I had no FTEs or FTFs in 100 rounds. The stock magazine worked good. I also bought a WC magazine just in case the stock mag had issues. This is my first .45. One day I hope to get an American made 1911 but for now this is good for me. It is the Ultra FS series.1 point

Hey folks. My friend Doctor Sherman House is hosting the one and only Massad Ayoob next month in Brentwood, TN for the MAG20 "Armed Citizen’s Rules of Engagement" class. This class is could be a once in a lifetime opportunity for middle Tennesseans to take this class from Mas locally, and it is currently in danger of being cancelled if they cannot get enough students signed up. A mere $400 gets you a two-day, 20-hour immersion course in rules of engagement for armed law-abiding private citizens, emphasizing legal issues, tactical issues, and aftermath management. Topics will include interacting with suspects, witnesses, responding police officers…threat recognition and mind-set…management of social and psychological aftermath after having had to use lethal force in defense of self or others…and preparing beforehand for legal repercussions and minimizing exposure to them. Situations in the home, at the place of business, or “on the street” will all be covered. You can learn more, and register for the class, HERE... https://www.eventbrite.com/e/mag20-classroom-armed-citizens-rules-of-engagement-hosted-by-the-civilian-defender-tickets-55663034635 I asked Sherman how quickly folks need to commit in order to be sure that this class isn't cancelled and he said ASAP, so please don't delay.1 point

I don't recall if this has been mentioned here before but car guys may find this interesting. Blackstone Labs is a company that will analyze your used oil to gauge engine health. If you request a few free kits they will mail them to you. You will then send back a few ounces of used oil and they will analyze the metal content found in it. This tells me I shouldn't have any concerns keeping my wife's Rav4 a while longer. Not that I was concerned. I'll send in another sample at 175k.1 point

So....finally broke down and bought one of my bucket list guns, a CZ SP-01 Tactical (it’s the all black that basically looks like the SP-01 but a decocker instead of safety, it IS NOT the urban gray one with taller sights and threaded barrel. This will be important in a sec LOL). My question for any of those that have this one is on holster options. Almost every manufacturer offers holsters for the SP-01 and SP-01 Phantom. A lot of the research I’ve done says the tactical won’t fit the Phantom holsters, but some info says they will fit standard SP-01 holsters. Looking for someone who possibly has the Tactical to verify. Appreciate the help as always!1 point

I’ve posted here many times that if someone can’t handle their own family business; the cops will do it for you if you call them. You think you don’t like some of my opinions here; think about all the people that had to deal with me showing up and taking over running their family for them. Most didn’t like the outcome.1 point

This is a rare point where we agree on something regarding LE. Cops aren’t social workers. The general public needs to stop trying to use them as such. They’re a blunt instrument that is to be used when the application of force is required.1 point

Having gone through this with family members and watching friends go through it, there are far worse things than worrying about someone’s gun collection once their mind starts going. I’m sure the family has reasons for what they are doing. Of course, no one is interested in hearing that story, it wouldn’t get nearly as much discussion as the perception the government was seizing this guy’s guns. The real shame here, besides his probable condition, is that families are not aware that the Police don’t need to be involved in this. Too often they don’t know how to handle it, and because guns are involved they call the Police.1 point

Sure they can. Right now a lot of them don’t want to change background checks; they want to require them for private sales. As I’m seeing the story reported a bump stock had nothing to do with this guys arrest; it was simply an additional charge after a search warrant was executed. He started playing on the phone and when they investigated him, they saw the refusals he lied on. They had him at that point.1 point

How does a liberal view this story? They can't congratulate Trump for banning bump stocks. They can't say current background checks are adequate.1 point

@hipower I think you are making a solid decision to keep this revolver. I still kick myself in the butt for not picking one up years ago. The .44 special is one of my favorite cartridges, especially to handload for, and this is one beautiful Smith imho. Of course you know you could post a pic of it...for those unfortunate souls like myself that must live vicariously through your good fortune.1 point

CMMG has some legit quality issues for a few years. Luckily, those were a bunch of years ago, and they seemed to have not only squared them away - but really make some nice stuff that won’t break the bank these days. I wouldn’t hesitate to own their stuff. On this particular variant running the 5.7x28, my only hesitation is those Pro-Mags. I’ve run plenty, and their quality does seem to be hit or miss.1 point

When I had my eyes checked several years ago, the doctor said I had presbyopia (aka "old man eyes") and just needed reading glasses. For reading a book, I needed 1.5 diopter (at that time) and 1.25 diopter for working on the computer which is my job. She directed me down the street to the "Dollar Tree" to pickup a few pair in the prescriptions required. They work fine, I have multiple pairs laying around in various locations so they are readily available, and they are inexpensive enough the I keep a few spares handy for when I eventually break them. The half-height are the ones I prefer as they are lighter and more comfortable for longer periods of use. They also fit my melon-sized head. I wear an 8 or larger in hats or a XXXL to 4X in motorcycle helmets. Just be sure to check that the lenses aren't damaged before you buy them. As you get older, your eyes will progressively get worse and will require higher diopter reading glasses. This is the way I test: Open up a word processor on your computer, type a line of text, and copy the text on multiple lines resizing one point smaller each time until you get down to tiny print. I checked mine with a magnifying glass and found that Calibri font will go down to 3 and still be clear from my laser printer. I carry this sheet with me when picking up new glasses. I test powers of glasses by holding it as if reading a book and then for the computer at just beyond arms reach which is the distance from my sitting position in the chair to my computer monitor.1 point

I’m sure they will; they refused to unlock the phone of a terrorist that had just killed 14 Americans and injured 22. Google on the other hand has a dilemma; they have the opportunity to possibly put some weapons owners in prison. What’s a liberal to do?1 point

BBQ was best when it was whole hog, cooked over homegrown charcoal, laid out on old metal racks supported on rows of concrete blocks, under an open-air awning of tin and rough-sawn wood. Surrounded by dirt worn bare by generations of folks who stopped by and bought their meat pulled directly off the hog by the pound with stacks of buns and chips on an old picnic table nearby, paid in cash only ...1 point

https://www.aclu.org/other/how-usa-patriot-act-redefines-domestic-terrorism The definition of domestic terrorism is broad enough to encompass the activities of several prominent activist campaigns and organizations. Greenpeace, Operation Rescue, Vieques Island and WTO protesters and the Environmental Liberation Front have all recently engaged in activities that could subject them to being investigated as engaging in domestic terrorism. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestic_terrorism Could it be those Bay Area folks are bending the rules to suit their own needs again??1 point

I think unless the NRA puts some new people in charge that knows what they are doing the NRA will continue to take hits like this more and more. Right now they have a bunch of spineless people in charge that all they can do is ask for their members to send them money. They ask me for donations at least twice a week but I don't see them doing anything positive to earn it.........JMHO1 point

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/san-francisco-board-brands-nra-a-domestic-terrorist-organization The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has passed a resolution declaring the National Rifle Association a “domestic terrorist organization” and urged the federal government to do the same – the latest escalation in the heated rhetoric from Democrats regarding the NRA in the wake of several deadly mass shootings. The resolution, which passed Tuesday and says the U.S. is “plagued by an epidemic of gun violence,” accuses the NRA of using “its considerable wealth and organization strength to promote gun ownership and incite gun owners to acts of violence.” “All countries have violent and hateful people, but only in America do we give them ready access to assault weapons and large-capacity magazines thanks, in large part, to the National Rifle Association’s influence,” the resolution says. The document resolves to assess the relationships that those who do business with the city have with the group and says “the City and County of San Francisco should take every reasonable step to limit those entities who do business with the City and County of San Francisco from doing business with this domestic terrorist organization.” The resolution cites the July mass shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival, in which three people were killed. KTVU reports that the resolution’s author wrote the text after that shooting. The NRA responded by calling the resolution a stunt that was distracting from the city’s myriad of social problems. "This ludicrous stunt by the Board of Supervisors is an effort to distract from the real problems facing San Francisco, such as rampant homelessness, drug abuse and skyrocketing petty crime, to name a few,” the statement said, according to KTVU. “The NRA will continue working to protect the constitutional rights of all freedom-loving Americans." The measure comes as Democrats across the country are ramping up calls to crack down on gun ownership, in response to deadly mass shootings in Dayton, Ohio, and western Texas. Some presidential candidates have proposed mandatory buyback programs, notably Beto O'Rourke who bluntly told reporters that would be the plan. “I want to be really clear that that’s exactly what we are going to do,” O’Rourke said. “Americans who own AR-15s, AK-47s, will have to sell them to the government.” Republicans, however, have noted that gun violence is still rampant in major cities like Chicago that have strict gun laws in place. “Gun control doesn’t work. Look at Chicago. Disarming law-abiding citizens isn’t the answer,” Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, tweeted Monday.1 point

"San Francisco Supervisors Vote Unanimously to Designate NRA ‘Domestic Terrorist Organization" You just can't make this stuff up. "Being stupid should hurt" was the phrase invented for stuff like this. Too bad the NRA has weakened itself and there is a good possibility it isn’t up for the fight. You would think there would be some kind of law about a government agency declaring a legit political group a terrorist organization.1 point

If Chevrolet didn't use 10 different parts for the same thing on the same make and model, it'd be a lot simpler. I've done some learning while fooling with this. I guess that's something. The ebay seller I got this from has been awesome in helping so far.1 point

Well, I did end up going out for a while this morning. Unfortunately, not to the gun show. Bent over to pick up shoe and popped the back again. Emergency visit to chiropractor was needed. Now, I'm supposed to do nothing at all till I head for surgery. I had a few personal things scheduled today; like going thru boxes of books for keeping and selling. That's out. At least for 6 weeks or so. I'll be doing slow walks around here and that's about it. Getting old sucks!0 points

I tried them at 40. I wear contacts from sun up to bed for seeing far. Tried 1.0 readers and fixed my issue. If I wore my regular glasses, I could just take them off for up close things. Wife actually went and go a nice pair of prescription ones. They work great at telling me when to dust.0 points
