  1. Public service announcement about Palmetto State Armory. maybe this is public, common knowledge, but it was not to me until yesterday. On palmetto's daily deals, some of them have a "coupon code". If you enter that code when you check out, it makes the price lower than is advertised. Sometimes substantially lower, like 150$ off a 400$ scope and mount set. I have no idea why they do this, you have to add the item to your card to see the discounted price. Maybe this is common and I'm just old. But I could not believe how much discount i got on that scope.

  2. For some reason that link won't work here. But, it seems they need to modify that request to only include downloads from overseas locations, which would assist the investigation into the actual people of interest. A blanket request should be denied as it sets a bad precedence.

  4. Good morning, TGO. I made some changes to the software that I hope will make it a lot less confusing for people when they graciously wish to continue supporting the site by renewing Benefactor memberships. Here's what has changed: As of now whenever a Benefactor membership expires the renewal invoice is valid for only 30 days. After that time it expires and members will be able to once again purchase a new Benefactor membership if they so desire. If an active renewal invoice exists for a member and they attempt to buy a new membership instead of renewing, an improved error message is shown with some helpful information and a link to where they can find their previous purchases. I hope that this makes things a lot easier on our Benefactor members. You guys truly are the lifeblood of TGO and I can't thank you enough for your support and, frankly, your patience working through what has been one of the worst parts of our software for several years now. I wish I'd thought to make these tweaks sooner. Please let me know if they make things better or worse? --David

  5. This article gives voice to something that's been bothering me for a while - but that I just couldn't quite put my finger on. https://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/mass-barbecue-is-the-invasive-species-of-our-culinary-times/ Basically, by trying to cater to everyone, we're losing local traditions that define us. I grew up with the workingman's barbecue - The Flying Pig outside the front gate of the Atlanta Airport (where your sandwich was served on a paper towel), Malear's, Sprayberry's and such. If we traveled to Memphis or the Carolinas, I'd eat barbecue in a different tradition with a sense of being in that place. I remember being served mustard sauce on a pork sandwich in South Carolina that was maybe the best I'd ever had. Or brisket in west Texas - where you couldn't find a pork sandwich if your very life depended on it. Likewise, when I was in grad school - going to Dixie Barbecue outside of Seattle and it was like being taken back home. I'm a sucker for the increasingly rare roadside barbecue stand where your only choice may be what kind of chips you want to go along with the white bread and pickles. It would be fun to list some of the remaining places here in Tennessee.

  6. I’m at 275 and buy mine in bulk at dollar tree. Have to, I leave them laying all over the place so I got to buy the cheap ones.

  7. He’s a court certified mental defective, that lied on his 4473 and then started making threats. (or phone calls that someone interpreted as possibly being threats) So he was going to be arrested bump stock or not. Looks like someone was doing their job, and this is a good thing; correct?

  8. I agree with this. ITAR is there for a very darned good reason.

  13. Walmart gets sued if someone falls in the dairy isle, but they’re not going to stop selling cheese. The dairy farmers aren’t going to pay their legal fees. When a business opens it’s doors to the public, it risks suit for almost anything. How does not selling SBR ammo (whatever that is), handgun ammo and asking people to stop OC keep people from suing them? Still doesn’t change a thing. The gun community didn’t do this. A deranged lunatic did.

  14. I've had a LNL Progressive press for several years. I bought it used from someone on this forum. Prior to that I reloaded rifle & pistol ammo on a single stage press for about 20 years. The LNL Progressive has worked great for me. I load pistol ammo (primarily 9mm & 45ACP, but also some 45 Colt) similarly to what you outline above. I use it for throwing powder, bullet seating, and crimping on a separate station (if I crimp them) for rifle rounds(5.56, .308, 6.8SPC, 30/06, 7mm Rem Mag, 7.62x39 and probably others I'm forgetting). I do rifle brass prep separately (varies depending on caliber/use) and prime with an RCBS Auto Priming tool. I use a Giraud for rifle case trimming - hurt to pay for it, but it is a huge improvement for trimming large batches of cases. The only things I've added to the press are a lighting kit, double bullet tray, and roller lever from Inline Fabrication: https://inlinefabrication.com/collections/hornady-lock-n-load-ap-ergo-roller-lever None of those are required, but nice to have. The roller lever is much more comfortable for me that the original Hornady lever.

  15. Take your age, divide by .005, times pie( 3.14159 ), add 1000, minus 1, times your age to the 10th power = enough. If you think that is not enough change .005 to .00005 and you age to the 15th power.

  16. If you get a chance at crane, make the most of it with TSS shot. You won't be shooting that much anyway. Generally a quality choke in IC or lite mod will work well.

  17. I have a compact 22. Great shooter for function and acceptable accuracy. Not as accurate as the Ruger 22/45 and I would bet the Victory is better as well. Don't expect any better out of the SR22. I use both the SR and compact a lot in my HCP classes. Much prefer the Compact. If you get a compact, once the sights are set, lock-tite or nail polish the windage bar....the have a habit of falling out if you don't.

  18. I'm going to throw in my two cents as a safety professional. Best practices when handling lead: - wear disposable gloves - use ventilation, an exhaust hood is ideal, but the idea is to get dust or fumes away from you. Beware that using makeshift equipment such as a fan is going to blow lead dust all over your work area. - wear long sleeves and long pants, take them off and wash them when you are done handling lead. - don't eat, drink, or smoke while handling lead, or in areas where lead is handled. - a respirator is a good idea, but you don't want to buy one off of the shelf and start using it without the proper knowledge and precautions. You need to be fit tested before wearing a respirator. A fit test ensures that the respirator makes a good seal on your face. IIRC some medical clinics, such as Concentra offer this service. You also need to get a medical evaluation to make sure that your heart and lungs can take the added stress of a respirator. Also, store your respirator in a gallon size zip lock bag when you are not using it, use the correct filters, and change filters at a regular interval. This is a very brief summary of protecting yourself from lead dust. Avoiding contaminants is complex. Just wanted to put this out there to 1) inform and 2) possibly prevent someone from an overexposure because they thought they were protecting themselves, but their method wasn't effective. Not only do you need to use engineering controls and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) they need to be used properly.

  21. I really don't mind if a store asks people to not "open" carry. All they are asking us to do is cover them up, not leave them outside. We as gun owners need to respect those (other customers) that are not comfortable with guns. I know several people that just don't like them but they also don't think they need to keep others from owning them. It's simply not there thing and the more we try to force our views on those in the middle of the issue we simply push them further to the other side. I have to admit that when I see people open carry in public or even not make much of an effort to conceal their gun, I wonder what kind of a fool is this and who is he trying to impress. Sorry if that offends anyone but that's just how I see it. I truly believe more harm than good comes from that kind of behavior.

  23. BBQ was best when it was whole hog, cooked over homegrown charcoal, laid out on old metal racks supported on rows of concrete blocks, under an open-air awning of tin and rough-sawn wood. Surrounded by dirt worn bare by generations of folks who stopped by and bought their meat pulled directly off the hog by the pound with stacks of buns and chips on an old picnic table nearby, paid in cash only ...
