  1. The difference, for me, is that I have no beef with a store that decides to stop selling something, what they stock on their shelves is their business, decides to change their carry policy/rules or what their CEOs personally think or give money to. But when they actively join anti-gun organizations (Walmart and Everytown for Gun Safety), hire lobbyists (Dicks), stop making loans to just gun companies (Bank of America) then they are actively fighting against my 2A rights and do not deserve my support.

  2. BBQ was best when it was whole hog, cooked over homegrown charcoal, laid out on old metal racks supported on rows of concrete blocks, under an open-air awning of tin and rough-sawn wood. Surrounded by dirt worn bare by generations of folks who stopped by and bought their meat pulled directly off the hog by the pound with stacks of buns and chips on an old picnic table nearby, paid in cash only ...

  4. My wife was overjoyed! I hope there is a good number who share the sentiment, but more importantly a high enough percentage of them with resolve to keep it up. I am sure in the near term it will be a bit, but I'd expect many will give that up at times when they need something or want for less. The fact that WM dropped AR's a few short years ago without anyone even blinking, while Dicks got hammered for doing the same exact thing suggests its easy enough to snow most pro 2A folks if you simply make up some lies about it. At the time, WM claimed it was due to lack of demand (during Obama and record sales...what??), where as Dicks didn't fib about the why. On top that little blast from the past, with McMillon coming out anti 2A, it should make it clear where they have really been the entire time of his leadership. Which in my book, makes them worse than Dicks as they have been playing the long game while lying, just like the Democrats have been. At least Dicks was honest about being weenies

  5. You have to ask yourself where this will end...and right now I'm not liking the possible answer. When a major retailer based in the south, focused on southern markets feels secure enough to make this move without much outward prompting, that's a sign.

  6. My Rock Island pistol finally arrived last week. Took her to the range and fed a few rounds through it. I had no FTEs or FTFs in 100 rounds. The stock magazine worked good. I also bought a WC magazine just in case the stock mag had issues. This is my first .45. One day I hope to get an American made 1911 but for now this is good for me. It is the Ultra FS series.

  9. I generally prescribe to that philosophy, let live and live. The only caveat I'll add to that is pulling support should be considered at lower thresholds than full anti-gun support, and even outside guns, to other freedoms that get infringed. Consider smart companies do not typically express politics, or do it in subtle or small ways under the radar to avoid alienating customer bases. We are unfortunately put into the position of being a little hypocritical at times, when we see it, but let the lower level stuff go. Probably more so on non gun issues. FWIW, the Walmart CEO has been tipping his hand since he took the reigns with the AR removal, when the sales lie (his smarter underling claimed to the press) was outed when he used that same line back then about supporting "hunters and sports shooters" and no need for 'military style weapons'. We all know that is hard core liberal anti 2A phrasing, just like 'common sense laws". I avoided them for a few years, then became a hypocrite myself when I stopped in their a couple times in the last year after we moved here.

  10. And what if after Trumps gone OSHA, EPA, or whoever can make up a problem, decides to mess with shipping regulations on ammo more than they already do greatly increasing shipping costs or even the ability to ship ammo?

  11. It just got a lot harder for the manufacturers as well. Walmart was 20% of the ammo sales in America. After the change, they estimate they'll be 6%. That's a lot of their market simply gone overnight. Sure, some local shops will pick up a few extra cases of ammo. But they're already cash strapped. Look at the stores that have closed in the last couple of years for evidence of that. Hopefully the manufacturers will reach out to some of the online sellers and offer them Walmart-type terms to keep the pipeline flowing. But, all of the online sellers combined don't have the revenue numbers of a single Walmart in a typical suburban neighborhood. So, I'm not sure the economics will work. It's going to be a tough road ahead.

  12. May sound silly...but my WW purchases are usually centered around the magazine section and the sale dvds. They have consistently been the best local place for me to get The Official John Wayne Magazine for my wife. That and the cheap 3 buck dvds that sometimes have a gem of some sort in the piles. Oh, and the Tropical Mango Gatorade. Hard to find flavor that I'm addicted to. lol Yeah, I was telling my wife that I could live without Walmart. That I hated to be a one issue person, but it mattered a lot to me. Her response was something along the lines of "You can stop going, but it won't make a difference. You're just a little guy and they are a huge corporate entity. They won't miss you at all." That may be true, I said. But it's a matter of principal for me. I can't willingly support an organization that goes against my position. Others will, I think, feel the same. It may or may not be a Dick's sort of catastrophy, but it will show the world that the little guys can have an effect. The worst part...where will the newbies make their first cc walk? The WW walk has been a milestone in the introduction to concealed carry. I'm gonna miss telling someone to do it.

  13. I agree with i1afli's assessment about the demonizing of guns, but this is actually worse than that. I believe we're witnessing the effects of the average American's declining interest in intellectual engagement. There is simply no causative link between lawfully carrying a handgun - whether openly or concealed - while in a public place (like a grocery store) and mass shootings. By contrast, going unarmed actually results in suffering helplessly in situations where self-defense becomes necessary due to crime - the very type of crime that liberals are quick to label as a "growing and troubling trend". If most American adults were willing to do the relatively straightforward logic-driven reasoning that inescapably leads to these conclusions, then sizeable corporations like Kroger would not be able to risk losing revenue due to implementing the kind of absurd policies seen here, and liberty would better thrive. But if people are not willing to thoughtfully analyze cause and effect in this context, corporations will continue to lead consumers by the nose into a new status quo that: 1) reduces companies' insurance premiums, and 2) fosters a "don't think about problems, just buy more goods" consumer mentality.

  14. Hell it's a struggle to even get a WM employee to open the case for me to get the ammo they do have. I'll get mine from North Georgia Reloading or SGAmmo.com. They have good prices and better service too.

  15. This article gives voice to something that's been bothering me for a while - but that I just couldn't quite put my finger on. https://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/mass-barbecue-is-the-invasive-species-of-our-culinary-times/ Basically, by trying to cater to everyone, we're losing local traditions that define us. I grew up with the workingman's barbecue - The Flying Pig outside the front gate of the Atlanta Airport (where your sandwich was served on a paper towel), Malear's, Sprayberry's and such. If we traveled to Memphis or the Carolinas, I'd eat barbecue in a different tradition with a sense of being in that place. I remember being served mustard sauce on a pork sandwich in South Carolina that was maybe the best I'd ever had. Or brisket in west Texas - where you couldn't find a pork sandwich if your very life depended on it. Likewise, when I was in grad school - going to Dixie Barbecue outside of Seattle and it was like being taken back home. I'm a sucker for the increasingly rare roadside barbecue stand where your only choice may be what kind of chips you want to go along with the white bread and pickles. It would be fun to list some of the remaining places here in Tennessee.

  18. Other than the Hestonian, "from my cold, dead fingers..." what evidence can be produced that proves the NRA incites gun owners to violence. I have a right to protect myself and loved ones from un-invited bodily harm or death. My assailant may be a former Fight Clubber, someone jacked on drugs, good old fashioned armed robber, or possibly a group of wolves. Here's your pointed stick, good luck, hopefully he'll only be armed with a banana. Yet another reason to not buy California. Hopefully some of the brand name accessory manufacturers will flee to more friendly climes.

  23. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/san-francisco-board-brands-nra-a-domestic-terrorist-organization The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has passed a resolution declaring the National Rifle Association a “domestic terrorist organization” and urged the federal government to do the same – the latest escalation in the heated rhetoric from Democrats regarding the NRA in the wake of several deadly mass shootings. The resolution, which passed Tuesday and says the U.S. is “plagued by an epidemic of gun violence,” accuses the NRA of using “its considerable wealth and organization strength to promote gun ownership and incite gun owners to acts of violence.” “All countries have violent and hateful people, but only in America do we give them ready access to assault weapons and large-capacity magazines thanks, in large part, to the National Rifle Association’s influence,” the resolution says. The document resolves to assess the relationships that those who do business with the city have with the group and says “the City and County of San Francisco should take every reasonable step to limit those entities who do business with the City and County of San Francisco from doing business with this domestic terrorist organization.” The resolution cites the July mass shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival, in which three people were killed. KTVU reports that the resolution’s author wrote the text after that shooting. The NRA responded by calling the resolution a stunt that was distracting from the city’s myriad of social problems. "This ludicrous stunt by the Board of Supervisors is an effort to distract from the real problems facing San Francisco, such as rampant homelessness, drug abuse and skyrocketing petty crime, to name a few,” the statement said, according to KTVU. “The NRA will continue working to protect the constitutional rights of all freedom-loving Americans." The measure comes as Democrats across the country are ramping up calls to crack down on gun ownership, in response to deadly mass shootings in Dayton, Ohio, and western Texas. Some presidential candidates have proposed mandatory buyback programs, notably Beto O'Rourke who bluntly told reporters that would be the plan. “I want to be really clear that that’s exactly what we are going to do,” O’Rourke said. “Americans who own AR-15s, AK-47s, will have to sell them to the government.” Republicans, however, have noted that gun violence is still rampant in major cities like Chicago that have strict gun laws in place. “Gun control doesn’t work. Look at Chicago. Disarming law-abiding citizens isn’t the answer,” Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, tweeted Monday.

  25. "San Francisco Supervisors Vote Unanimously to Designate NRA ‘Domestic Terrorist Organization" You just can't make this stuff up. "Being stupid should hurt" was the phrase invented for stuff like this. Too bad the NRA has weakened itself and there is a good possibility it isn’t up for the fight. You would think there would be some kind of law about a government agency declaring a legit political group a terrorist organization.

  32. I'll go ahead and speak blasphemy. I was born and raised in Memphis and I'm not really into BBQ pork. HOWEVER, I have a couple favorite BBQ places--Baby Jack's in Bartlett and Interstate BBQ on S Third. The chicken w/ white sauce at Baby Jack's is the bomb and the smoked turkey at Interstate is worth the rude servers. There is also a hole-in-the-wall place in Abilene, TX I went and had beef brisket for the first time. I horrified a couple Texans when I said, "Man, that's good stuff. It ain't BBQ, but I like it."

  38. I think unless the NRA puts some new people in charge that knows what they are doing the NRA will continue to take hits like this more and more. Right now they have a bunch of spineless people in charge that all they can do is ask for their members to send them money. They ask me for donations at least twice a week but I don't see them doing anything positive to earn it.........JMHO

  39. Mom and Pop stores instead of big discounts? I don’t think so. Besides what makes you think Mom wouldn’t tell our open carry friends to get out? Those stores are as gone as real street racers. The next thing is; we don’t go to the store. We shop online and its delivered to us. I suspect that is not that far away.
