Went a little crazy in terms of time and money. Really turned out to be real functional, and looks pretty good in person. Haven't deployed it yet. Top is to laminated layers of 3/4" birch plywood, with a top layer of Formica, and edge trimmed with red oak. Everything is coated in satin poly. The whole thing breaks down and will fit in a trailblazer. All the take-donw hardware is machine threaded.5 points

Something different. Some students prefer a little lighter recoil. Inexpensive play thing that can serve as a spare car gun.3 points

Some may laugh, but this is exactly what is occurring in Europe and other countries. Lose the 2nd, and the others fall right behind it.3 points

Yep, M&P40 M2.0 Compact 4". I was price checking and ran across what I thought was a really good price, plus a rebate from S&W for Veterans.3 points

Dave, it’s true that police investigating violent threats has nothing to do with the second. That about the same relationship your comment has to ChancesR’s. In Europe folks are arrested and jailed for making “offensive” posts on social media. A YouTube comedian was arrested and fined for making his girlfriend’s dog do a Nazi salute because she would go on about how cute it was and Nazis aren’t cute. Freedom of speech is under a real and concerted attack by certain folks.2 points

There are a lot of pension funds, hedge funds, etc. which are required to store a certain percentage of their funds in the bond market. As older bonds roll over, they must purchase new bonds to replace these. With the low rates being charged by central banks, there is intense competition for the types of bonds these funds are required to own. Thus when purchasing their requisite share, they are forced sometimes into paying prices that are greater than the total return on the bonds when held to maturity, thus the "negative" rates ...2 points

Has the war on drugs worked? Yes/no? Answer-No. Legal weed is in fact cheaper than illegal weed. Prices in the legal states have plumetted thanks to competition. Capitalism is awesome! These threads always show the people that actually love freedom and the ones that want government control. DeerSlayer, not directing this at you specifically. But you can't simultaneously say that "banning drugs will keep people from getting them" while also saying "banning guns won't keep criminals from getting them." They are one in the same.2 points

So my daughter wanted a shoulder holster so she could carry her Ruger LC9 and her knife without wearing a belt. This is what I came up with... it still needs to have the final adjustments done and the straps trimmed but I want her to were it a bit and find the most comfortable placement before she cuts the straps. The back lower strap keeps the holster and the knife/mag pouch from going forward when bending over.1 point

We will be leaving for our first fall camping and fishing trip Sunday afternoon. Granddaughter and son in law came over, to mow our yard, yesterday afternoon. We are paying her because her twin brother has been making good money mowing yards, this summer, so her mother told her she gets to mow ours. They are 15 now, and Mimi also cooked the whole family a good dinner last evening. We went out to check out the camper and the air conditioner sounded like a thrashing machine. SIL climbed up on the roof, of the RV, and took the cover off the air conditioner. Turned out we had a big dirt dobber nest on one of the fan blades. Removed it and all is well, she is blowing cold air now. We also finished rebuilding 3 Delta water faucets that was dripping. Have I told you guys, I have a great SIL? My shooting range has a good stand of new grass and all looks well with that. All I can say is, lookout fall, here we come! Planning a Mississippi River scenic byway trip the last 3 weeks of Sept (Hannibal Mo, Moline Ill, Dubuque Iowa, Galena Ill, and back down to St Louis) and first week of Oct. The last 2 weeks in October we will be in Pigeon Forge/Great Smokey Mountains N P trip to end out our fall. I like fall. It is my favorite time of the year. Weather is in the low to mid 80's now and getting good for outdoor activities. You guys have a good next 2 months.1 point

I actually handled one today at Harvey’s, in Knoxville. It’s your typical GI Spec pistol. But the one I handled, had a great trigger! I talked to the guy behind the counter, and he said he got bored yesterday and decided to take it apart a see what the innards looked like on a $350 1911. He was impressed. Said it was very sound with just a few rough edges. He said he did a couple of things to smooth out that trigger, but didn’t polish or stone anything. He said he was impressed. The trigger was pretty dang good, whatever he did too it. So now I’m trying to decide whether or not to trade my lay-a-way Taurus .44 Tracker in for one. I ditched my last 1911 in favor of a more modern design (XDs .45acp, which I love), but now I want another 1911, like what I carried occasionally in the service and this fits the bill, spectacularly! It a nice quandary.1 point

Pleased to report 2 female ruby throated and a female black chinned are providing hours of entertainment. Possible one of the Ruby's is a returnee from last year. Amazing little critters, especially the non stop flight across the Gulf of Mexico for winter migration.1 point

Same weight, same thickness, very little difference in length and height when compared to the 9mm. So why drop to a .380? Buds has them for $196.1 point

That gun was junk when it was new and had new springs. There is a very good possibility it will fire with the safety on, or if it is dropped. Be very careful. DISCLAIMER: I am an admitted gun snob, but even the bottom feeders agree on this.1 point

I put everything on a credit card. I carry no credit card debt; I pay it off every month. Cash is not King. I like free money; some people don’t. (Unless of course you are buying guns in private sales and then it is.) I used to have a GM card. I applied several thousand in rewards to a new truck Purchase and then a couple of thousand to a new car. When I thought I wasn’t going to be buying anymore new cars; I switched to a Sears Card. I get at least one and sometimes two $500 gift cards each year. I now need to find something else as Sears may be going out of business any day. With Edward Jones I get 2.75 on my 1 year CD’s and 3.1 on my 2 year. I don't know what they will be this time. With Trump in charge and Edward Jones in the drivers seat my investments gained 23% last year. I was headed for that again this year, but this China issue could be a problem.1 point

It doesn’t make them cheaper and it doesn’t improve things. It costs more than illegal weed, and it will up the crime rate. However at a 35% tax rate on an already “through the roof” pricing plan it will help the state. It will also allow the stoners to not have to worry about getting cuffed and stuffed for having weed. Next they will be crying about being picked on for DUI because you can’t hardly get that smell out of your car, and that is an obvious indicator. The Governor of Illinois just asked for increases in a bunch of taxes; with the weed taxes about to come through in January. Pure greed.1 point

I haven't read this entire thread but I moved our emergency fund from Suntrust(who paid me 0%) to an online bank called Citizens Access. They are paying out around 2.2%. I feel like an idiot for leaving my money with Suntrust for all those years when I could have been earning interest. Since the recession I just assumed no one was paying out and never bothered to check. I find the first post to be too long to read but it sounds like he's discussing something called credit card churning. There is an entire sub-reddit devoted to this. Interesting stuff. I know people hate credit cards and refuse to have them. You're missing on on a lot of free money/rewards. Our points pay for a good chunk of our travel. If you don't trust yourself to pay off your card each month then I guess that's another story.1 point

The odds are certainly in the house’s favor here, so to speak. Most people lack the discipline to do something like this - or they’re already leveraged up to their eyeballs anyway. Regardless, you can certainly game the system and make a little money. I’d guess you need to pay close attention to all of the various terms and conditions. Likewise a change in your personal status could likely affect this negatively as well. But, I’ve got friends who take multiple first class trips around the world each year on points travel hacking cards. If this appeals to you, awesome.1 point

Absolutely it’s a buyers market. But the used market is moving slow because sellers are still trying to hold the line. I don’t blame them; I would do the same. We have all sold guns at what we paid, or sometimes more. Those days are gone for the time being. Most of my purchases lately have been new. I get really good prices online, so I can’t justify some of the used prices I see. The online dealers I use are flush with guns and the prices change considerably day to day. I’ve ordered 50 round boxes of Federal HST for what they sell 20 round boxes for in the stores here. I’ve been thinking about the M&P 2.0 Compact. But with low online prices and S&W offering a $40 rebate for veterans; the price for a new gun is lower than most used I have seen. Now the stuff that is no longer available is still on a wild ride. S&W Pre-lock revolvers, and some of the no longer available semi-auto handguns are bringing good money, but if you notice you see some of those sitting a long time. Some folks don’t even want to put a price on a gun, all they want to do is trade. I don’t think that not putting a number on it will help them get what they want; but if it works, good for them. But if they want to sell; I need to see a number in the ad. I have gun money burning a hole in my pocket, and have some guns to trade, haven’t bought anything in awhile and I’m having withdrawals. I gotta find a local FFL that will work with me on GunBroker and FFL’s in other states. I tried to get my own FFL; but that a no go in Murfreesboro. But keep in mind….should a Democrat beat Trump, or they gain control of the Senate; we will be in one heck of a tailspin. The absolute crazy left makes Obama look like he was on our side.1 point

Yup. The more gun owners flaunted the uses of braces to beguile themselves into an SBR, the more ATF looks stupid, and you really don't want to poke that bees nest with all the delegated authority they have.1 point

Oh, I’m absolutely not taking a win for granted. I’ve never seen hate like this in my lifetime in an election. The Republicans better get out and vote. And who cares if he will take your state; get out and vote anyway. That way we don’t have to listen to the snowflakes whine and cry about the popular vote. I suspect the Democrats will be dragging people out of their homes to the polls, they will have buses lined up, and will kick in every kind of voter fraud know to man, to try to win. Other than the last election; I don’t think there has ever been a more important time in my life to vote. A large percent of our country wants to be Socialist, destroy Capitalism, and spread the money of those who work equally among everyone; including those that refuse to work. No variation of that can work and leave our country free.1 point
