Another new member. Was looking for Tisas GI .45 reviews and came across this epic thread. Classic Arms is apparently selling them as of right about now. $339.00 https://www.classicfirearms.com/sds-imports-1911-a1-government/?trk_msg=F1SB6A4PKOQ4H41L0MDM425A08&trk_contact=6QLPGUMSLAP03900AFG1EN8K0C&trk_sid=SFA7SFK1H5SIELLDN504PRVLR0&utm_source=listrak&utm_medium=email&utm_term=Get+Yours+For+%24339.99&utm_campaign=20190828SDSImports1911A1&utm_content=Primary Anyone going to do a new review?3 points

You’ll wind up profoundly disappointed in either of those if you actually use them in any meaningful way. Assuming price is a factor, I’d pick a Spyderco Endura or a Delica if you want something smaller. These are both great folders. Or, in that sub-$30 category - maybe head to your local Walmart and pick up a Kershaw. We’re I looking for a fixed blade in that price range, I’d probably pick up a Mora or three.3 points

I've started sending all the beg letters back to them with "not another dime until LaPierre is gone" written on them. One today is another of the "notice of shutdown - critical update" ploys. - OS3 points

“Tactical” to me has become more a descriptor of aesthetics and form rather than function. In my view folders are good for general purpose pocket duty. If you’re after something capable of heavy work or high force applications then you want a fixed blade. Like anything else, determine your needs based on intended use, set a budget and work from there.2 points

Panic buying won't start until prices escalate & shortages are seen at shops & internet suppliers. There's no reason to be a victim of shortages & higher prices. Guns, ammo, components are plentiful & cheap now, funny that many won't buy now & will wait until the availability goes down & prices go up. JMHO.2 points

52 gr. Sierra BTHP with 4198 with the trusty .221 Fireball, but then really, ANY .22 centerfire recipe put in the RIGHT spot will drop yotes quicker than lightning. Make the shot and they will drop.2 points

To give you an idea of the cost of this just the Sambar Stag for the handles cost $160 before shipping. The custom leather/Caiman sheath was made by one of our own on the forum....1911alltheway.1 point

Recently acquired an LE trade-in Sig P226 in 40. Shoots wonderfully for a $320 gun!! My dream gun has always been a P226 in 9mm as a suppressor host, but we know how much that would cost new. Especially with a threaded barrel. After extensive research, I decided on a BarSto semi-fit threaded 40 to 9mm conversion barrel. Per their description, about 75% of the time, they'll drop in with no fitting required, but no such luck for me. I can "click" the barrel into place in the slide with a little thumb pressure, and it takes slight pressure to press it out. Also, can't get the slide with barrel on the frame. I'm guessing the barrel lug is hitting the locking block. At first I thought I'd try fitting it myself, but after watching youtube videos and reading several sites/threads, I'd gladly pay $100 or so to have someone fit it for me as opposed to taking a chance on ruining a $300 barrel. Two questions: Any idea for the "average" cost to fit a semi-fit barrel? Does anyone have a gunsmith in the Wilson County or Rutherford County area they'd use for this? Thanks for any replies.1 point

I have a slicer on my XM-24. That blue one is a plain ole spanto. Not a real good cutter, but about as unbreakable as a knife blade can be. I don't think you could break the frame either without tools. Rick does one thing really well... Tough.1 point

I've had good success with a CRKT M16-14(T) Also have a tactical looking pocket knife from CRKT as well. Investing in a good knife is similar to a good flashlight, holster, belt, pen, watch, etc. Buy once, cry once, unless you're an unfortunate who loses small personal items.1 point

This was kind of the point of this thread. Someone mentioned earlier that it’s already too late, but I’m not seeing it. Stocking up on what I need now, especially ammo and mags. Not buying stuff I don’t need like lowers, LPKs, etc, even though those will dry up also. I vividly remember what goes away during panics and am preparing. I also don’t want to ever feel guilty going shooting due to high cost of ammo.1 point

Just chalk it up to my well established paranoia and the fact that no one in national politics is honest or honorable. As the old saying goes "Trust in God and keep your powder dry". But first ya gotta have the powder....1 point

While I don't think the government has some secret gun registration, people in the government and other high places break the law almost every day and nobody does a thing about it. The Clintons, most people in the FBI leadership under Obama, Eric Holder, Loretta Lynch, just to name a few off the top of my head. The government pretty much does whatever it wants. Oh, people will gripe about it to no end, but at the end of the day, nobody does anything to stop it of prosecute the people responsible.1 point

Yeah, it was great to have time like that with my father. Something I'll treasure for sure. The Louisiana team played lights out, completely earned their victory. They actually mercy ruled the Virginia team in five innings during the game I saw. The team from Curaçao was great in their own right, just ran up against smoking hot Louisiana squad.1 point

I received a fund raising call from a solicitor for the NRA this week. The young man started rattling off all the benefits of my membership and how the NRA was the only organization fighting for me. When I told him I wouldn't be making a donation, he said I was just giving up my Freedom and my 2nd Amendment rights by not donating. After all, the NRA was the only group fighting for me. I stopped him right there, telling him he was incorrect on that point. "Well who else will stand up for you?" he asked. I mentioned the GOA, NAGR, TFA, CCOA, and the local groups involved at lower levels. He had no reply to that evidently on his script. But he did ask why I wasn't sending money. I mentioned the controversy over La Pierre and his extravagant lifestyle, the questionable amount of payments to the PR firm, the salaries of his and the other VP's, the infighting among the board and officers, the ousting of Cox and North, and ended with the rumors of a home bought form him with NRA funds(don't know much about this, just have seen some comments of FB and some internet pop-up "news" articles. I also told him that I felt the only way I would give again would be after Wayne Lapierre had resigned and a new Board was put in place. I just couldn't trust that any of them were doing more than lining their pockets with my/our money. The young man thanked me for my comments and hung up. It is so sad to see a one mighty protector of our Rights get to a state like this. I guess it's still true...Power corrupts. Absolute(or almost in this case) corrupts absolutely.1 point

1965, I'm 3, my sister just turned 2, my dad ran in to the pharmacy where he worked to do something. Parking lot was on a hill and I apparently decided it was time to go. I got behind the wheel, knocked the car in to reverse and caved the rear end of my dad's brand new Pontiac after hitting a telephone pole. According to my dad, that pole was the only thing that prevented us from backing into traffic on a very busy road. I, of course, have no recollection of the alleged event and maintain my innocence 54 years later...1 point

Edit In a post several years ago, I made the suggestion of springs, detents, bolts, and firing pins. I would stand by that today, if anyone hasn't done that yet. And reloading stuff.1 point

To quote Vincent Lauria...."If everybody's doing it...that's a lot of guys doing it...." They don't have the space to house them all if 2 million people say they are not interested in conforming. In 1984 the Winter Olympics were held in Sarajevo , Yugoslavia....by 1992 the country was in the midst of a civil war......I'm not in ANY way saying that is a positive thing. But at some point people cease to follow rules when they do not see the powers that be as legitimate or when they feel things have gone too far . And like it or not this country was founded by people who ceased to follow the rules when they felt things had gone too far...and they ceased to see the powers that be as legitimate. We also had a 4 year "unpleasantness" in the 1860s because enough people didn't respect the direction an election took.... There are some very interesting parallels between the 2020 election and the 1860 election....1 point

Given the support of red flag laws by many members here, I'm certainly not going to post anything provocative, but I assure you I will not be in prison. I also would be careful with "it isn't going to happen", given the rapid pace at which many members are willing to drive us to the edge of the cliff, forfeiting every right that doesn't matter to them on the way. But hey, you have a sweet 401K, right?1 point
