  1. My co-host on Shooters Nation, Mark, really liked it when he got his hands on one at Triggrcon in Washington state last month. The thing that I noticed on a video review that I watched was that the optics mounting plates are polymer. The reviewer said this surprised him, which it does me as well, but he then added "Well so are the frames of practically every gun made in recent history so I guess this really shouldn't bother me" and I had to concede that he had a valid point. Really what I think the Masada signals to me, along with the arrival of the FN 509 MRD and the Sig P365 XL and a slew of other optics-ready guns from SHOT and NRAAM this year, is that the gun industry is finally making this mainstream. The Masada, though, is making it affordable... and that's awesome!

  2. If there is one thing that I want to deal with less than a damaged house, it's a wife saying "I told you that was a bad idea."

  3. Why is this so hard to understand???!!?? What happens at an FFL dealer is a background check on YOU. No one gives a chit about the gun you are buying. It is in no way "registered".

  4. Here’s a short video from last weekend. Me and a few guys went out to call for the morning. @Luke E. brought his camera and tripod. This coyote came out directly down wind of Luke and I. Luckily he had the decoy activated on the call and we acted quickly. I don’t believe that coyote would have stood there but a second or two more being downwind but we made it work. At the end of the video when he said “Hey” I thought he saw another one and I was getting ready to pop another one if it came out. Had no idea he was gonna pick on my visor

  6. Three-Night Mini-Series 11th-13th Continues Tonight on the HISTORY Channel. I started watching this last night and its pretty interesting. Besides the stories of companies like Kellogg’s, Heinz, and Coke, it talks about things we take for granted. Like refrigeration, and how the FDA came about from so many people getting sick or dying from tainted food, and companies being able to claim anything; true or not. I think you might be able to watch the first night online. Or On-Demand if you have it. https://www.history.com/shows/the-food-that-built-america

  7. Same for me. My garage is kind of my man cave for now, so a fridge out there is mandatory. Plus we have a deep freezer for venison, beef, etc

  8. The only logical way to proceed is to draw up plans for a second floor addition with a floor beefy enough to support at least 500 gallons of halibut habitat...

  12. Caught by the homeowner being notified by his security cam, preparing for the guy to try to make entry, and then calling 911. Like I say…. I love me some technology. Those nice folks may very well be alive because of that camera.

  13. That’s what I mean. If an attorney is going to decide whether or not the insurance company will take the case or if they will pay; it’s useless, I don’t care who its sold by or who recommends it. And if they pay for everyone that’s arrested; I would guess it wouldn’t take very many cases to put a serious dent in the company’s profits. I’m not saying its not a good deal. I’m just saying my time spent around attorneys makes me think this is sketchy. But hey, I could be wrong. They could be making money hand over fist from the premiums of all the people living at the foot of the cross, to where they can afford to pay out for the occasional murderer/Road Rager.

  14. I’m pretty sure I’ve asked this before and never got an answer, but I’ll do it again. So… if I get in a road rage incident and shoot someone, get hauled in and charged with murder, these companies are going to get me a top attorney and pay my attorney fees? That’s a simple yes or no question and one I would expect a simple answer on from any insurer.

  18. Early Century rifles had several well documented issues. Most of those were corrected over time, so I think current rifles are ok. Zastava makes good ones. I think PSA rifles are pretty good too. You can also buy a parts kit and build it yourself, though some special tools are needed.

  19. Spend a few minutes at http://www.handgunlaw.us/ and pick the state you are interested in. This website does a great job at making it easy to understand what the gun laws are in each state.

  23. So my question is: Why was a violent offender ("aggravated child abuse and especially aggravated kidnapping") doing out on basically unsupervised grounds duty? My Papaw was the litter pickup officer in my home county. He took guys out every day. They were usually only the drunk and disorderly or check fraud type people. He never let them out of his sight. He made it clear he would not chase them, he was too old for that. He had 6 friends that could outrun any of them. He never got anything but respect from them because they knew it was a privilege to get out in the fresh air. He would not take anyone out that he felt would be an issue. So is the prison so hard up for funds for grounds keeping and staff that they have to let inmates roam freely?

  24. They can ask whatever they like; they don’t need a law to ask. And the HCP holder can either comply or refuse and leave. They don’t need to be posted to ask someone carrying a gun to leave. They just have to be properly posted for the holder to be cited. In my opinion its better than posting. In checking, they found that the patron was not in compliance with the law; so he was carrying illegally.

  26. Ok thanks guys for the awesome info. That’s why I love this forum. I just always thought they registered the gun when they did a background check on you. I really appreciate your help. Makes me feel better now when I want to trade with somebody.

  27. This. The FFL retains the form 4473with the buyers name and the gun serial number, but they don't give that info to anyone... unless they surrender their license (quit the business) and are require to give their records to the ATF. If a gun is used in a crime and the police are researching it, they contact the OEM who looks up which distributor got that one. Then they ask the distributor which retailer got it. Then they ask the retailer (FFL) who bought it. Then they contact you. If you no longer have it because you sold it to another person, you tell them that. If you don't have record of who you sold it to (an individual is not required to have any records) that's the end of the line. And carrying it on your person somewhere other than your property requires a handgun carry permit (HCP). There is no requirement to conceal it, but it's generally considered to be a good idea.

  28. Also, I don't believe ANY firearms (possibly machine guns....) are registered in TN.

  29. I'm far from an expert on this stuff, but I believe that TN doesn't issue a CC permit. It issues a 'carry' permit & that covers you for open & concealed, whichever you choose.

  30. There are a ton of things to take into consideration. General rule of thumb is that you don't need to do anything structurally up to 55 gallons. It's all relative though. What kind of shape is the house in structurally? How long do the joists run? (The longer they are, the more deflection they will have) Assuming that your joists are on 16" centers I would figure out where they are and certainly center the aquarium over two of them. Actually, as a guy who has had many aquariums, I would find a nice video of an aquarium, stick a nice TV in that corner, and loop the video.

  31. My father in law was one when I was a cop. We had a riot getting ready to start. They pulled up said “Want some help?” Then something to equivalent of “Hold my beer and watch this!” Rioters fear water hoses and dogs more than they do guns.

  35. I worked with a guy in college who had racked up several DUIs, so someone would usually take him home after work. I'm taking him home one night and he asks if we can stop by his friend's place so he can pick something up. As we get close he tells me not to go down the driveway, just wait in the street and he'll be right back. Sure enough, a couple of minutes later he comes running back with an arm load of beer that he "rescued" from a car port fridge. I have no idea if he even knew the people. I tried not to give him rides after that.
