This. The FFL retains the form 4473with the buyers name and the gun serial number, but they don't give that info to anyone... unless they surrender their license (quit the business) and are require to give their records to the ATF. If a gun is used in a crime and the police are researching it, they contact the OEM who looks up which distributor got that one. Then they ask the distributor which retailer got it. Then they ask the retailer (FFL) who bought it. Then they contact you. If you no longer have it because you sold it to another person, you tell them that. If you don't have record of who you sold it to (an individual is not required to have any records) that's the end of the line. And carrying it on your person somewhere other than your property requires a handgun carry permit (HCP). There is no requirement to conceal it, but it's generally considered to be a good idea.6 points

Here’s a short video from last weekend. Me and a few guys went out to call for the morning. @Luke E. brought his camera and tripod. This coyote came out directly down wind of Luke and I. Luckily he had the decoy activated on the call and we acted quickly. I don’t believe that coyote would have stood there but a second or two more being downwind but we made it work. At the end of the video when he said “Hey” I thought he saw another one and I was getting ready to pop another one if it came out. Had no idea he was gonna pick on my visor2 points

I had never heard of The Gun Club of TN so I googled it, and WOW!!! Dang, very nice but well above (and I do mean WELL ABOVE) this country boy’s reach. Shucks, I would feel out of place at a place like that anyways. Besides, pretty happy at the bottom of the hay field with my dirt mound, in-laid railroad ties, and metal targets that only talk back to me when I hit’em!!2 points

No need to. My understanding is that if you legally own it, you can carry it. Private sales are completely legal here.2 points

I've been a handgunner for over sixty-five years, and during that time I've tried just about every kind of handgun available. I've has Colts, Rugers, Smith & Wessons, and Ubertis. For my preferences, prefer the Colt New Frontier when I have the wherewithal, next a Ruger Blackhawk. I've had the Smith Model 28 and Model 29, Colt Python, etc. I have recently settled on the Ruger Blackhawk, not only for range/hunting use, but for protecting my hide. I carry a Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Colt almost daily. My everyday companion is a .45 in a Mike Barranti holster. Bob Wright2 points

A little progress has been made on this project. I've been side tracked in the shop doing other things. The melamine top has been cut. Not yet secured... Also, I'm sure you can't miss the Dillon mount has been built. Doweled, glued and screwed. Quite strong. I still need to clear lacquer it. Also still need to finish the rock chucker mount. I have all the pieces cut already. I had some tongue and groove hardwood boards left over from previous owners (no idea where they used them, but not in the house). So I cut the tongue off, leaving the bevel, then stained and lacquer cleared one. Came out better than I need or deserve, so I am proceeding with making the rest of the fascia cap boards. They are not the finest specimen boards, and I could have sanded the first one better, but oh well. Good enough. I might remove the first one and put it on the back side of the bench...I think the second one will be a bit nicer. The one sitting on top just got stained today and is drying before the lacquer clear coats are applied. I also procured the hardware to mount the press mounts to the table top. I 3D printed some hand wheel knobs for the 3/8" bolts... ~Bandit2 points

I am giddy. Working as hard as I can to get my dedicated climate controlled reloading space up a working.... without dying in the friggin heat! Here's a 3D model of my plan. The A frame looking things are press mounts. They will be made of Maple ply (will stain) and patterned from this guys mount: https://rickaverill.com/projects-past-and-present/dillon-rl-550b-mount/ Instead of hard mounting direct to the bench, I am using tee nut inserts (screw mount, not the 3 pokey prong style), like this guy did: https://www.flickr.com/photos/93396776@N06/albums/72157663547333758/with/27602044619/ That way the presses and smaller tools (case trimmer, manual charge thrower etc) can easily be removed leaving the bench free and clear of semi permanent obstructions for cleaning/smithing etc. The bench has an underlay of OSB and will have a white Melamine top with fascia caps boards around the perimeter. They will sit about 1/4" above the working surface to stop rolling things (cases, projectiles etc) from bailing off.1 point

Flash Player will no longer be supported after December 2020. Why should I care, and why does Chrome think its important enough to give me this warning every time I start it?1 point

We both use Lucky Duck Revolt E-Caller. He’s brought a FoxPro CS24 along with us as well and it seems to be a very nice choice. Small and compact, and its in my plans to have one of them as well. We’ve been practicing with MFK mouth calls. I’m not comfortable enough with it yet to use in live action, too new to it. But I drive my wife crazy with it practicing lol1 point

$1100 for a empty 60 gal aquarium and stand?!?! Dude that’s crazy. Man, this is one item you need to push away from the internet on and visit some local fish stores.1 point

Waterbeds and aquariums aren't comparable. Waterbeds may weigh 3x as much but they cover 10x the area. A 7x5 bed that weighs 1500 lbs is 42lb/sqft. Aquariums are comparable to big gun safes. The failure mode isn't punching a hole and falling through the floor. The failure mode is sag over time. Wood will continue to stretch and bend over time. Eventually, cracks will appear in Sheetrock, adjacent windows won't open, and doors won't close properly because the weight has caused things to move. Given the typically shoddy nature of modern home construction, I think it's an important consideration. But I'm anal like that. Most people get tired of all the maintenance that goes into an aquarium and get rid of it before anything really bad happens anyway.1 point

Any of you that read my posts on crime issues know I have zero sympathy for violent offenders…none. I saw the results of these animals long enough to have a better understand of them than I would have liked. Curtis Watson was sentenced to 15 years for especially aggravated kidnapping, and classified at that time as a violent offender. That conviction originated with an arrest on charges of aggravated rape or forcible sodomy, as well as aggravated kidnapping. It was reduced to the single charge in a plea deal. The crimes and the charges this man was convicted of showed that he was a thug criminal that belonged locked up without access to innocent people. To allowing him to be out mowing grass and driving around on a freaking golf cart was reckless. Whoever made that decision should be held accountable. This man would have got out of prison without being a registered sex offender. Of course now none of that matters because he raped and murdered a woman.1 point

From this timeline, assuming it’s correct, it looks like he may have been gone for 3.5 hours before local authorities were notified. And for some reason it appears prison officials took 1.5 hours from the time they knew he was gone to notify them. That’s unusual. ------------------------------------------------- Here's a timeline of his escape, given by the TBI. Aug. 7, 2019 7 a.m. - Curtis Watson is released on work detail for daily mowing duties 8:10 a.m. - Debra Johnson is known to be alive, making a phone call. 8:30 a.m. - Watson is seen by correctional officers on a facility golf cart at Johnson's home Between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. - Watson takes a tractor and reflective vest from the prison and drives away 11 a.m. - Prison officials realize Watson is missing 11:30 a.m. - Johnson's coworkers discover her body after she doesn't report to work 12 p.m. - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is notified of a homicide at the West Tennessee State Penitentiary. 12:30 p.m. - Prison staff alert the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office to Watson's escape. 1:30 p.m. - Authorities locate the tractor Watson took from the prison along with his prison identification card. 1:45 p.m. - Tennessee Department of Corrections Commissioner Tony Parker briefs the governor's office to pursue activation of the Governor's Escape Plan. 3 p.m. - TBI issues a Blue Alert and adds Watson to the state's "Most Wanted" list.1 point

Only thing I have to add to that. Anytime that you buy a gun from an individual without going through an FFL you run the risk of buying a stolen gun. I have had an LEO run the serial number on my gun during a traffic stop to ensure that it was not stolen. Whether or not that is okay is a whole other topic. Just to be clear that has nothing to do with registration. All firearms that are reported stolen are entered into a database.1 point
-
Why is this so hard to understand???!!?? What happens at an FFL dealer is a background check on YOU. No one gives a chit about the gun you are buying. It is in no way "registered".1 point

I guess I ment unregistered as in not in your name like you would if you bought a new gun? I prolly didn’t word it right. Lol1 point

Also, I don't believe ANY firearms (possibly machine guns....) are registered in TN.1 point

I'm far from an expert on this stuff, but I believe that TN doesn't issue a CC permit. It issues a 'carry' permit & that covers you for open & concealed, whichever you choose.1 point

There are a ton of things to take into consideration. General rule of thumb is that you don't need to do anything structurally up to 55 gallons. It's all relative though. What kind of shape is the house in structurally? How long do the joists run? (The longer they are, the more deflection they will have) Assuming that your joists are on 16" centers I would figure out where they are and certainly center the aquarium over two of them. Actually, as a guy who has had many aquariums, I would find a nice video of an aquarium, stick a nice TV in that corner, and loop the video.1 point

Erik, It’s just common sense. Trump has stuff to get done and gun issues is not part of it. But if I hated him as much as you do I would keep bringing up guns. He gets zero change on gun issues. A handful of people are going to be upset if we lose private sales without a background check. For most Americans it’s common sense to try to stop criminals and mental cases from getting guns. They are being told (correctly) that convicted felons can simply buy guns off the net in a private sale with no background check. They think stopping that is a good idea. I’m not sticking up for Trump; I understand its going to happen no matter what he does..period…its happening…So save this thread in your saved stuff, notes, or whatever so if it doesn’t happen you can bring it back up to show me just how wrong I was. About my relationship with The Donald…. Anyone here that reads what I post, whether they agree with me or not knows that I don’t like Donald Trump as a person. He is our President and I think he has done a far better job than anyone you can name that had a shot, and is 10000 % better than Hillary would have been. Him and Hillary were our only two choices in the end. No one else mattered. Now about you assuming I support our President no matter what…. You and a couple of others here berated those of us that wanted Trump to win, you laughed at us, and told us there was no way Trump could win. You were obviously as clueless about that as you are on the issues now. I have never seen anyone on this forum whine and cry more about personal attacks than you. Yet you attack people more for what you think they think, instead of what they say, than anyone on this forum. You should worry more about discussing the issues in an intelligent manner and less about throwing hissy fits, posting pics, calling me a Fudd, and calling me out in threads that I haven’t even posted an opinion in. But that’s okay. I’m a big boy and can handle it. I understand your internet friends have taught you a new word for those that don’t agree with you on gun issues, and have obviously even directed you to a cartoon to post. I can discuss/debate you on the issues, but I wish you wouldn’t reduce it down to childish non-sense. I had decided before to not respond to your posts. But I can’t help it. Some of what you post is too amazing I can’t help but comment….sometimes no matter how hard I try.1 point

That would be my luck. Then the killer would get out on parole and come for me.1 point

I've always had problems shooting the traditional Colt style single actions. They just don't fit my slightly arthritic hands and the trigger guard beats hell outta my middle finger knuckle. I just can't shoot one worth a hoot . But like you, I occasionally get the urge for a Cowboy gun. I've owned about a half dozen Colt style or Ruger single actions over the years and ended up selling them all. Try thinking outside the box. I found this a few years ago. A true cowboy gun that fits me much better and the only single action I currently own. Its a bit above your price range, but its a keeper. Navy Arms (Uberti) Schofield1 point

Yeah, it seems to me that the whole purpose of a Red Flag Law is to circumvent due process and individual rights.1 point
-
I'm against red flag laws on principal. They tend to supersede due process, to say nothing of actual investigatory work (though I acknowledge resource limitations in that area compared to the problem). It won't take long before they tie some connection to medical databases, especially the VA. At that point, any veteran who had combat action, and/or claims PTSD is on "the list". No thanks.1 point

Ok...this comment is a bit out of place here. At least in the specific topic I want to address. One of my, and other's, fear is of the disgruntled neighbor, wife, or other family member. A single bit of hate, and I think that will be the driving force more than fear; will likely be the cause of a confiscation of weapons under the "RED FLAG" laws. For me personally, it's the irate neighbor that causes me concern. We are the lone conservative in our immediate neighborhood. Most are moderate and quiet in their comments, but several are, by my standards anyway, wildly left-leaning and seem to salivate at the thought of taking any action against anyone disagreeing with their own ideology. We have on this street MADD, Moms Demand Action, LBGQT supporters, vehement Bernie supporters, and a few who still scream that Hillary was robbed. We/I became friendly with a couple of them after moving in, and I even took one shooting with me. That didn't seem to make him any more likeable, nor has he ever asked to go again. His FB postings are full of Trump hate and all that goes with it. I have chosen to keep all but a passing "Hello" distance from him. So this guy reaches out and tells LEO that he fears that a neighbor has weapons and might be unstable. Where does that leave me/us? Red Flag laws are a quagmire. Some good from them, but the potential for massive misuse is there. And that worries me.1 point

I’m willing to compromise with them. I really am... let’s start with abolishing the NFA, and I might forgive them for stepping on the Constitution. Today’s bump stock is tomorrow’s pistol brace - is next week’s drum mag - is next month’s semiautomatic. No gives!1 point

If popularity and the market is what defines the 2A then I better hide my old revolvers and relics I never owned a bump stock, but I don’t agree with the banning of that piece of plastic either. A chip away is a chip away1 point

I have a Bisley Vaquero in .357 magnum. I like the Bisley because the hammer spur is lowered so you don't have to reach for it with your thumb. It also has a widened trigger. The sights are not adjustable but how often do you adjust the sights on your handgun? The fixed sights are dead on. I used it to win the company pistol shoot a few yeas ago. You can shot hot .357 loads until the gun is too hot to reload. You can iron your shirts with it while you wait for it to cool down. What ever single action you decide on, you are going to love it. I like to put on my Stetson and my Old El Paso Cheyanne rig and run around the house in my underwear going "Yippi Ki aye Ki Yaye!"0 points

My father in law was one when I was a cop. We had a riot getting ready to start. They pulled up said “Want some help?” Then something to equivalent of “Hold my beer and watch this!” Rioters fear water hoses and dogs more than they do guns.0 points
