  1. At 3:17 PM today it has been 50 years since we heard those words. Vice President Pence gave a rousing speech today from Kennedy space center. Reviving the space program would be quite a feat. I’m sure we have the ability, but I question we can get anything done that requires the approval of congress.

  2. If Heritage spent an extra $20 per gun and passed along at hard cost, could they improve them enough to give Ruger a sinking feeling?

  3. Some of us (old guys) even remember a man that climbed into a capsule on top of a missile designed to deliver a nuclear warhead.

  4. I know some of you could care less where your guns are made; but many of us do; this discussion is for those members. Buy American, Hire American, America First. More and more we see guns in the bottom feeder category that are American Made. Lets face it, until the last few years the only decent American Made gun that is low cost and wasn’t (arguably) junk was the Hi Point. We have come a long way. The thread about the Stoger and the Canik (both made in Turkey) being under $300 made me think that we have better options for less money; even American Made options. So if you like to buy cheap guns, and want to buy American; now is a good time. Even prices on some of the top quality, best sellers in the Industry have dropped. The SCCY CPX we routinely see selling below $200. It’s currently made in Florida with the company in the process of moving to Tennessee. And it gets good reviews Kel-Tec PF-9 right at $200 and the P-11 just over, and made here. Diamondback at just over $200. New models like the Remington R51 (brought back after a bad start) at just over $200 and the Mossberg MC1SC at around $300; we shall see. Ruger EC9 at around $250 and Security 9 and SR9 at $300. MOSSBERG MC1SC at $300; we shall see. All the Highpoints at around $175. They have a big following… bless their heart. And even Smith & Wesson Shields at $250 and Full Size models dropping below $300!! Proven performers.

  5. Since we're still talking PSA here...just go and get the now OD Green Upper and Lower combo. Buy a couple of mags and some ammo. This is, IMHO, the best way to get started with an AR. Cheap complete rifle to get you going. Go shoot it and see if you like it enough to keep going with the platform. Then worry about all the other things like upgrades and such. For under 300 for a complete rifle, you can cheaply learn a lot. Really.

  6. Blown engine? There are probably bypass valves somewhere for the hydraulics that will let you move the mower much easier than dragging it.

  7. Advantages: Longer sight radius, Slightly higher velocities. Disadvantages: Longer. Either of those should be a dandy. I wouldn't get too hung up on twist rates and/or chamberings unless you plan to shoot competition, or have a very specific load you want to shoot.

  9. I have a Savage msr 10. I got it thinking it was so cheap and light that I could afford to mod it out if needed. So here it goes. Trigger is heavy. Got a new one. But stock sucks. Got a new one. Replace the grip with a modified standard one. The barrel had chatter. Fire lapped it. Flash hider was near impossible to get off. It is now a bad ass working rifle. I've killed hogs at night in Texas and South Carolina. I run it on nuisance permits in Tennessee. It runs like a top. The fire lapping was a must everything else was for comfort. I'm behind the rifle 2 to 3 times a week for 2.5-3 hours at a time. If you get one I would put about $300 into it.

  11. You believe what you want. I believe that the ATF exists only to suppress our constitutional rights. That's been their record so far. If you want to side with them go ahead. But we are waaay off topic, so I am done here.

  13. I doubt it. I’ve not seen and held a Ruger Wrangler yet, but I’ve seen and held a Heritage. I can’t imagine Ruger making anything that low end, but I guess it’s possible. Maybe we’ll get sub $200 Smith & Wesson revolvers.

  14. I had a DPMS Panther for several years. Sold it and got the DPMS GII Recon. It’s above your budget, but DPMS has several that are below $1K. I’ve never had any issues with them and they are accurate. I was interested in the M&P when it came out but thought the barrel looked too small. I never did get anyone to give me a diameter on it; just going by pictures. A .308 needs a good barrel. I haven’t looked at the cost of building one in a long time. But it used to be it would probably cost you more to build than buy a complete rifle due to lack of a standard. I don't know if that still holds true or not. Good luck in your search. In my opinion a .308 AR comes closer than anything else to being the answer to the question, “If I could only have one rifle, what would it be” question. It can do it all.

  15. I will have one of those this fall. I will also spend way to much money setting it up with an optic too.

  16. No need or immediate want in my life. Other than a desire for a big bore AR platform, my only advice based on "hunting and occasional range" is a good optic budget, not a good budget optic. From the recent AR thread, with patience for flash sales, you could build one. $1000 all at once vs. a hundred here and there over time.

  17. That RUGER WRANGLER at $199 has to give Heritage a sinking feeling. I suspect the saving grace will be that the Rugers will be hard to get.

  19. I've got an M&P-15 Sport II. Pretty good rifle, completely reliable with everything I've put in it. Combat accurate, but no tack driver.

  21. I've got a Sport 2, stock except grip and added red dot. Does everything I need it to do. I also looked at the Ruger, slightly better finish. See them both routinely on sale for $500. For my second, if I ever do it, will be a build, in a different caliber. Good luck!

  22. I can say I've got a Hi Point JHP .45 and its never gave me any problems at all. And I have put about 500 rounds through it with not one hiccup. I can't say that for some of my other guns. I gave $175 for it out the door. I'm looking forward to the new Hi Point.

  24. Sounds like a nice trip. I would be uber careful in Illinois. I have a couple of LEO friends that live in Paducah. The IL state police like to hassle any LEO that crosses the line so they don't carry there except when on duty and in uniform. I avoid IL like the plague. I won't even connect through Chicago on a flight if I have checked weapons. Too much risk if the flights get cancelled.
