Find and put him in touch with resources that can get him the help he needs. Without being there and interacting with the guy, I can't say if he's just a hoodlum trying to prey on the church or he's truly seeking help. And I agree that those most likely to interface with him directly absolutely need to be "in the know".2 points

You better get privy and you better do it before you act. I’m not trying to sound like a hard azz, but I would do exactly whatever your Church leaders tell you to do. They have been made aware of the problem and apparently decided they are not equipped to deal with it; so ask them what they want you to do when he shows up or who they want you to call that is equipped to deal with him. You can’t guess. Don’t put yourself in a situation you don’t need to be in.2 points

I feel comfortable discussing Illinois gun laws because I know them. That does not include Chicago or Cook County. I’ll give you my opinion, but you need to do the research if you are entering Cook County. Chicago and Cook County has routinely thumbed their nose at not only the Attorney General of the State of Illinois, but the SCOTUS. Chicago finally conceded that state laws trumps their law and there are no magazine limitations. Illinois allows cities and counties to pass their own gun laws. But they require them to notify the state and have them posted in a public area. This link is that area for information on any city or county you may be going into. https://www.ispfsb.com/Public/Firearms/MunicipalOrdinances.aspx Illinois law does not require you to notify an Officer you are carrying if you are stopped. It does require you to answer truthfully if you are stopped and asked. Your carry permit only covers you in your vehicle. If you exit that vehicle carrying a loaded gun; you are committing a crime. You will find that most of the LEO's in Illinois are very professional and polite, that includes the Illinois State Police on the highways, who have an excellent reputation. That does not include the Chicago PD. If you get stopped by them don’t become stupid; most of the stories you have heard about them are probably true. I hope this helps, have a nice trip. EDIT: I should probably add that my comments above assume a Tennessee HCP. If you do not have an HCP or do not have it on your person to hand to the Officer; you can’t have a loaded gun in your vehicle in Illinois.2 points

Since we currently don't own a still, it was blanched, bagged, and frozen. I'm told that canned sweet corn isn't very good.2 points

This am, I ordered a new gun I've been wanting for a while. Walther PPS M2 RSMc 9mm. Has a Shield red dot sight with 4MOA dot. Should be here Thurs. or Fri. Anxious to say the least. Got zeroing to do. Sights co-witness with the iron sights, if needed. The dot stays on all the time & adjusts for light. We'll see how it goes, will take some getting used to. My old eyes, and tri-focal glasses, will, I think work better than with iron sights. Ordered from Lebanon Gun Shop, on Hartman Dr.1 point

So...I am a huge fan of the Kindle Paperwhites. I just "tried" a deal to see if it would combine and so far...I think it did. Their "top" Paperwhite is normally $249.99. Today it is $199.99, which is an ok deal. However, I scored and let me show you how. https://amzn.to/2ln0ioV On that page there is the "Upgrade and save with Trade-in" button. I traded in an old Kindle and they instantly gave me a $30.00 gift card balance on my account. They've provided a free shipping label to ship it back to them. However, that is not where you get the most benefit. You get the most benefit because they apply a promotion to your account giving you 25% off a new Kindle. Guess what? It's combinable with the existing discount. However, it applies to the full purchase price and not the discounted price. My order essentially looks like this: Items: $249.99 -$62.50 (The "Kindle Trade-in Promo" -- 25% of $249.99) -$50.00 (The amount of the original "Prime Day" deal bringing it to $199.99) -$30.00 (They gift card amount given for trading in) You are looking at 107.49 plus tax for a $249.99 Kindle Paperwhite 32GB with Cellular. However, I elected not to use the $30.00 Gift Card. Why? Because the amount for a Kindle charged to an Amazon Rewards Chase card gives 25% cash back today. That should be the amount charged. For me personally, they charged $150.90, so I should get $37.72 cash back to my credit card. And I have a $30.00 gift card balance for any other purchase. So...in reality...I got the Paperwhite for $69.77.1 point

Thanks for the replies. This young man is not a member of our church. He just showed up a couple weeks ago and has been to our services 3 times(not regular) now. This is the first time he has done something like this. Dealing with this situation is not easy. A church want to be open, and helpful, but! I intend to talk to the leaders on Wednesday night.1 point

Yes, you need to know the whole story. Security needs to have all the details on a potential threat. If he's seeking help, then by all means help him. However, if he refuses help, it needs to be made plain to him that he's not welcome. If he continues to come around after a warning, let the Police deal with him. There are some people you just can't save. Unfortunately in today's world, there are people who view churches and their membership solely as future victims.1 point

Well S***! THATS whats been happening to mine too. But mine, when they do this, have somehow gotten access to my bank account and deplete that also. Wish I knew more about how to stop this...oh, well guess I'll just have to live with it...1 point

I don't know if that is possible, gregintenn. I do know our eldership has had discussions with him and his parents. I am not privy to what they discussed. I think him not staying in drug treatment was part of why he was asked to leave his parents home. On the mental side of this, our whole society is not handling that problem, so I am not sure our church can either. It is a big problem.1 point

Can your deacons help find this young man some place where he could seek treatment? It isn’t easy, but doesn’t seem Christlike to give up on someone seeking help.1 point

These AR-15s seem to be reproducing in my gun safe, so maybe yeah.1 point

Clover I noted that you have a HCP, which surprises me that these questions and scenarios weren't discussed. Also remember what is said on the internet can and will be held against you. You will never lose a gunfight you are not involved in; avoidance is the best policy.1 point

I can have a gun in my car on My Tennessee HCP. I don’t know why a Florida permit would be any different, but it may be. Here is what the Illinois law has to say about it: (430 ILCS 66/40) (e) Nothing in this Act shall prohibit a non-resident from transporting a concealed firearm within his or her vehicle in Illinois, if the concealed firearm remains within his or her vehicle and the non-resident: (1) is not prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm under federal law; (2) is eligible to carry a firearm in public under the laws of his or her state or territory of residence, as evidenced by the possession of a concealed carry license or permit issued by his or her state of residence, if applicable; and (3) is not in possession of a license under this Act. If the non-resident leaves his or her vehicle unattended, he or she shall store the firearm within a locked vehicle or locked container within the vehicle in accordance with subsection (b) of Section 65 of this Act.1 point

We picked our sweet corn last night, before the coons ate all of it. We're putting it up now. BUNCH of friggin' corn! I've killed 4 coons, one possum, and lost count of the crows, but haven't put a dent in them. I hate coons. Maybe one day I'll have enough foresight to not plant it all the same day.1 point

Very few things can be explained completely with a few typed lines. As Dave pointed out, your home is not automatically a free kill zone. While the law weighs heavily to the homeowner, your flashlight is a very important tool in the middle of the night. Daytime or night, you still need to recognize your target/intruder. Is it a relative? A drunk student or neighbor that wandered into your home, but otherwise not a threat. A 14 yo who entered on a dare. Is it someone you can live with yourself if you kill them, or will it haunt you the rest of your life, especially if you shot the 14yo in the back running out of your house? Lots of questions with complicated answers to make in a blink of an eye. Again a huge responsibility for a gun owner.1 point

Most on this site can certainly appreciate the importance of having a means of self-defense readily available while traveling. TN Castle Law includes automobiles. In fact the HCP power point was changed as it specifically referenced 21yo and handguns. Later was changed to reflect the purchase by 21yo and above. Some LEO will not know the law and there may indeed be some question and possibly an arrest. Anyone under 21 and having a handgun in their car must certainly be aware of the law and maintain a polite demeanor while any problem is worked out. But the bottom line is it is legal and especially important especially for traveling females, ie to and from college, work, etc.1 point
