  1. Not much to update in that area @Jamie Jackson . I have only spent an hour or so on it since Monday. I almost have all the parts cut out of the Maple ply for the Dillon and Rock Chucker mounts. If I manage to drag my weary bones up to the shop this morning I'll have all parts cut and begin drilling dowel holes. Biggest thing I did was relocate bulk ammos to the room. I need to get into Nashville to get the Melamine top and fascia boards for the bench. I want one continuous top so I need to go to Home Depot (they sell 4x8 sheets) because Lowes doesn't have 8ft long boards wider than 15". So that's a 130 mile round trip in a truck I am waiting to combine with other needs. The reload room project is an extension of a much larger project. Since moving here my shop has been more like a giant storage shed than a functional shop. Things were deposited in the move or have accumulated since and never seemed to find a permanent home. I finally had enough of it and am dealing with it. So, much like chess I have to move pieces around in order to get the stage set for the end game. In order to free up space 'A' to build a bench and shelves, I have to move crap 'R' thru 'Z'. But where to put crap 'R' thru 'Z'? Well, R thru Z would make sense in space C, but then crap D thru Q needs to be moved etc, etc......etc. An arduous process when the temp is 95+ and heat index reaches (a new high) 125.

  2. Well, time passed... We made an offer during the April trip, came down in June and met with contractors, and close on July 29th. The house in Jefferson City, OUTSIDE actual city limits. So from what I've seen so far I'll be as legal as can be, property is 21 acres with an unimproved 10 acre parcel on the long Axis (1400 feet road to survey post) on the "range side". So if I shoot along that line aiming away from the road I'll have a minimum of 1000 feet of fishing land covered in untouched forest as a berm:) 1500 feet of road frontage means 10 unimproved (not even electric service) to my right, a hill in front, and minimum 1500 feet to my property line to the left. Across the road is 100+ acres of pasture, looks to hilly to build on. I think I'll be good;)

  3. We picked our sweet corn last night, before the coons ate all of it. We're putting it up now. BUNCH of friggin' corn! I've killed 4 coons, one possum, and lost count of the crows, but haven't put a dent in them. I hate coons. Maybe one day I'll have enough foresight to not plant it all the same day.

  4. Iv done a bunch of custom mods to the SKS design. Its like the K98 mauser of mid weight semi autos. Just yesterday I finished up the machining specs so you can use factory ASC AR-type magazines in the SKS. Its for use with the Marcus G9 mag adapter. With this new machining spec, it will get the G9 adapters back on the market. That makes factory mags completely interchangeable with AR-47's.

  5. Send it back to Sig. They'll fix it. Mine has been dead-nuts reliable, but obviously they had problems with early production runs. I've had problems with Smith and Wesson M&Ps, Glocks, Kimbers, Remingtons... you name it. These are mechanical things made by people. You're going to have problems sooner or later if you buy enough and shoot enough. The measure of quality is whether the manufacturer stands behind it and fixes whatever the issue was.

  6. I know some of you could care less where your guns are made; but many of us do; this discussion is for those members. Buy American, Hire American, America First. More and more we see guns in the bottom feeder category that are American Made. Lets face it, until the last few years the only decent American Made gun that is low cost and wasn’t (arguably) junk was the Hi Point. We have come a long way. The thread about the Stoger and the Canik (both made in Turkey) being under $300 made me think that we have better options for less money; even American Made options. So if you like to buy cheap guns, and want to buy American; now is a good time. Even prices on some of the top quality, best sellers in the Industry have dropped. The SCCY CPX we routinely see selling below $200. It’s currently made in Florida with the company in the process of moving to Tennessee. And it gets good reviews Kel-Tec PF-9 right at $200 and the P-11 just over, and made here. Diamondback at just over $200. New models like the Remington R51 (brought back after a bad start) at just over $200 and the Mossberg MC1SC at around $300; we shall see. Ruger EC9 at around $250 and Security 9 and SR9 at $300. MOSSBERG MC1SC at $300; we shall see. All the Highpoints at around $175. They have a big following… bless their heart. And even Smith & Wesson Shields at $250 and Full Size models dropping below $300!! Proven performers.

  7. I can have a gun in my car on My Tennessee HCP. I don’t know why a Florida permit would be any different, but it may be. Here is what the Illinois law has to say about it: (430 ILCS 66/40) (e) Nothing in this Act shall prohibit a non-resident from transporting a concealed firearm within his or her vehicle in Illinois, if the concealed firearm remains within his or her vehicle and the non-resident: (1) is not prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm under federal law; (2) is eligible to carry a firearm in public under the laws of his or her state or territory of residence, as evidenced by the possession of a concealed carry license or permit issued by his or her state of residence, if applicable; and (3) is not in possession of a license under this Act. If the non-resident leaves his or her vehicle unattended, he or she shall store the firearm within a locked vehicle or locked container within the vehicle in accordance with subsection (b) of Section 65 of this Act.

  12. Get a heavy plastic mallet or use a wood block to protect the case, then whack it, it'll come loose. Could also try leaving the bolts only loose a couple turns and tapping on the bolt heads.

  13. Thank you @I40Bandit for the five into capabilities. You posted a screenshot of importable file types, would you post something similar for exportable file types? Thanks again!

  14. I am far cry from being trigger happy so chances are I would not just shoot someone for entering my home through an unlocked door as long as they announce they are in the house. Where I now live chances are if anyone comes in my door it will be a realtive of close friend. My Daughter and SIL and other family members that live close by always knock and wait for my reply to come in along with all friends. Now that being said coming thru a locked door which again would require some major noise with the dead bolts on my doors and al my windows also lock and would require breaking. Any entry of that nature may not get you shot but it will put you in a position that when you are inside you will be facing a muzzle of a large bore gun and told to get face down with arms spread while we wait on authorities. Any failure by the perp to follow the orders might be cause for things to follow accordingly. Darby hears everything and alerts me to anything out side the house also.

  15. Fully understand your situation and frustration there, I40Bandit. I've been converting a small(roughly 8x12) room that was a "home office" into what has become my man dog house and a personal library. My wife rarely enters it anymore. I now have 2 walls done in bookcases, floor to ceiling. Initially, I've been using wooden folding bookcases that we've had for years, attaching them with 1 5/8 wood screws on the insides, and 2 1x3 boards on the back for additional bracing and stability. Also had some older Sauder kit CD/DVD shelving from previous use. I used 1x12 finished boards(for looks...lol) on top of the folding case unit by predrilling holes in the uprights of the old bookcases and the 1x12, then again with the 1 5/8 screws to attach them to each other. This gave me a stable base to place the CD/DVD case on the top and do the same thing as with the folding cases. That gave me a 7'W x 9'H unit covering one wall. I like it. My wife...not so much. The only out of pocket expense was the 1x12. Then did a similar project for the longer wall using salvage and yard sale bookcases. Got sort of interesting finding specific sizes to make it all fit, but I enjoyed the search and getting it put together. I did finish it and had a 13" wide gap left over in the corner behind the door. Just couldn't decide on what to do with it. Solved it by attaching a piece of an old curtain to the case and the wall. Makes a nice spot to place a rifle and hang a pistol or two. Out of sight and quick access. Now trying to convince wifey that I really need to keep going over the desk and other short wall. But after covering one window, she's not too keen on that. Hey... the point is use what you got as much as possible and spend as little as possible. I look forward to seeing more pics of your personal loading space.

  16. The Castle Doctrine presumes that someone that forcefully and illegally enters your home is considered to be a threat of death or serious bodily injury and therefore one is permitted to use deadly force to end such a threat. Your home is considered highly defensible property only because of the threat to person as noted. Presenting a firearm in and of itself is a potential felony unless justified in the line of self-defense, whether one shoots or not. Shooting someone more than reasonably necessary will also put you at risk of going to jail. And no, as much as you would like to, you can't shoot someone over a pet in most circumstances. l

  19. Just because they are in current production, doesn't necessarily make them a better option. There are lots of older firearms that are just as good and certainly cheaper on the budget. Ruger has to be the most puzzling firearms company going, though. Seems like they make a semi Auto for five or so years and then drop it from production, regardless of the success (the LCP seemingly being the lone exception). The model mentioned above is a good case in point. The LC9s is another great example. And why do they continue to sale pistols with only one mag? That drives me crazy!

  20. You are not justified in the use of deadly force to protect property. If someone threatens you with a gun you are no longer protecting property; you are protecting your life. The fact they have a gun means nothing; unless they use it or threaten you with it. My own personal test for the use of deadly force is very simple and would, I think, apply to most states. The use of deadly force would be justified if a reasonable person would believe they were in immediate danger of death or great bodily harm. Keep in mind that what a “reasonable person” believes doesn’t mean anyone cares what you were thinking; they don’t. It means a jury will decide if they thought what you did was reasonable to them. You can’t shoot someone and know you won’t kill them; so that is not addressed in the law. Shooting them assumes deadly force. Part of taking care of your family means staying out of prison and not financially bankrupting your family with a criminal trial. You probably don’t own any property that is worth risking that. Now having said that let me add this… I was a Police Officer in a time where we could shoot people committing or fleeing forcible felonies. Those times are past and you, nor the Police can do that anymore. We need that changed back. Our laws need to protect the victim; not the offender.

" Biondo explained that he had to be extremely careful when he was cutting through the chunk of meteorite. “It was definitely one of those jobs where you had to go by feel and sound,” he said. “If you mix carbon steel, aluminum, stainless steel and throw in some diamonds, that’s what it felt like." 23. Lots of reasons. Warehousing and storage and other forms of overhead, the possibilities of laws/customs regulations changing, economy of scale, all factors which will provide impetus for importers to move lots of guns in the shortest amount of time. It's basically the model the whole industry was built on, from Bannerman's through Sam Cummings to Classic/SOG/AIM today ...
