You are not justified in the use of deadly force to protect property. If someone threatens you with a gun you are no longer protecting property; you are protecting your life. The fact they have a gun means nothing; unless they use it or threaten you with it. My own personal test for the use of deadly force is very simple and would, I think, apply to most states. The use of deadly force would be justified if a reasonable person would believe they were in immediate danger of death or great bodily harm. Keep in mind that what a “reasonable person” believes doesn’t mean anyone cares what you were thinking; they don’t. It means a jury will decide if they thought what you did was reasonable to them. You can’t shoot someone and know you won’t kill them; so that is not addressed in the law. Shooting them assumes deadly force. Part of taking care of your family means staying out of prison and not financially bankrupting your family with a criminal trial. You probably don’t own any property that is worth risking that. Now having said that let me add this… I was a Police Officer in a time where we could shoot people committing or fleeing forcible felonies. Those times are past and you, nor the Police can do that anymore. We need that changed back. Our laws need to protect the victim; not the offender.7 points

Our garden is kinda meh so far. The yellow squash just rolled over and died before making any fruit. The zucchini made some fruit before the stink bugs got it. The rabbits ate the okra to the ground. Cucumbers are hanging on, but definitely not thriving. Tomatoes are ok, got a few with black spot and the birds keep pecking holes in them. That giant volunteer vine turned out to be a white pumpkin. Got 2 gourds and the vine appears to be dying. Maybe I'll get a summer pumpkin pie.3 points

I don't care if someone wants to steal my car (so long as I am not in it), but mess with my dog and no one may ever know where you went.2 points

A little update on those cukes and the trellis. If you do something like I did, put it on the south side of the bed if you can. Because there was another bed in close proximity on the south side of my cukes I had to go north with it (don't want to shade the other bed if the cukes go that far). The plants, of course, will grow towards the sun. Meaning they will tend to lean south. I have to train them (pull 'em back carefully) to the trellis (extra time out there every few days). Had I been able to go the other way they would simply fall on the trellis when they reach too high (unsupported). Otherwise it's working out well.2 points

Send it back to Sig. They'll fix it. Mine has been dead-nuts reliable, but obviously they had problems with early production runs. I've had problems with Smith and Wesson M&Ps, Glocks, Kimbers, Remingtons... you name it. These are mechanical things made by people. You're going to have problems sooner or later if you buy enough and shoot enough. The measure of quality is whether the manufacturer stands behind it and fixes whatever the issue was.2 points

Only an 1" difference and now 15rds of 9mm....the P365 is gonna be hard to topple. https://www.sigsauer.com/store/p365-micro-compact-15rd-9mm-magazine.html?utm_source=Sig+Emails&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=P365+15+Rd+Mag&utm_content=P365+15+Rd+Mag1 point

This am, I ordered a new gun I've been wanting for a while. Walther PPS M2 RSMc 9mm. Has a Shield red dot sight with 4MOA dot. Should be here Thurs. or Fri. Anxious to say the least. Got zeroing to do. Sights co-witness with the iron sights, if needed. The dot stays on all the time & adjusts for light. We'll see how it goes, will take some getting used to. My old eyes, and tri-focal glasses, will, I think work better than with iron sights. Ordered from Lebanon Gun Shop, on Hartman Dr.1 point

Looking Great @I40Bandit! Thanks for the photos! Solid tips as well! I had to cut my darn crazy cukes down! I worked a 3 day stretch of 12 hrs (read 13-14 hrs) shifts and over that essentially 4 day period they covered my 16 foot panel and tried to choke out my tomato plants! Viscous little bastids! er big, growing madly bastids! I'd rather have tomatoes than cukes anyway, at least until I plagiarize Bandit's trellis idea. We just got back from 4 days in deepest, hottest and most humid South MS... 99 to 101 degrees with 91% humidity and essentially no cell and absolutely no internet service...so it was nice of everyone to wait until I returned to post to the garden thread LOL Well, in my absence the birds have thoroughly enjoyed about a dozen of my nice ripe tomatoes. But the plants are producing nicely and the peppers are really doing well. I have a whole day off tomorrow so I'll be canning more peppers and enjoying another tomato sandwich. Those tomato sandwiches are my favorite "thing" about summer gardens. @peejman...Rabbits love gardens even more than we do. They especially love tender young okra and tender young green beans... hence the prison camp-like fencing of my garden! Been there and done that and I hate it for you Sir!1 point

Sounds like he is on a wireless hotspot, as were we when we lived out in the sticks. Good news is that it works, bad news is that it is: expensive, flaky (depending on weather/atmospherics), slow-ish, and may have bandwidth caps. The last would seriously get eaten up by a Roku or any other internet-connected streaming device. If caps aren't an issue, wireless bandwidth is... streaming an HD movie took up all our pipe, meaning that's all we could do at one time, and often there were hiccups. Sounds like fiber is on the way in his area....so yaaaa for that.1 point

This. If they don't directly threaten you (not car jacking), call 911 and get a good description, pics, video, etc. Shooting at someone who's stealing stuff is a bad idea for several reasons.... jail, civil suit, etc.1 point

Just because they are in current production, doesn't necessarily make them a better option. There are lots of older firearms that are just as good and certainly cheaper on the budget. Ruger has to be the most puzzling firearms company going, though. Seems like they make a semi Auto for five or so years and then drop it from production, regardless of the success (the LCP seemingly being the lone exception). The model mentioned above is a good case in point. The LC9s is another great example. And why do they continue to sale pistols with only one mag? That drives me crazy!1 point

The S&W Model 1905 stopped being made in 1942 and I am still buying them. The SR9c is out there reasonable on the used market. In lots of cases slightly cheaper than the other ones mentioned. Gotta have options.1 point

I thoroughly enjoyed it and have subscribed. I’m currently listening to “situational awareness”. A few takeaways for the church security podcast that I will bring up: •Tag system for nursery. Apparently we’ve tried it before but I believe it wasn’t implemented properly. •Is our church willing to invest in the team’s training? •Lanyards for team visibility. •Addressing the level of commitment from team members. I have full faith that everyone on our team “cares” but do they care enough to seek training and really strive to provide a top level of safety. •Limit openings to what is needed to fill and empty the church. He used an inhale/exhale analogy. •Dealing with the “we’ve always done it this way” mentality. This will be tough but I think with well presented data this is easily overcome. Emotions and tradition are a tough nut to crack though. There’s more but I’ll probably revisit after I’ve had a conversation with our pastor and my FBI friend this evening about all of this. Lot’s of good info there though that has hooked me to future listening. Between that and Joe Rogan I’m set for life with listening material.1 point
