  1. When the government shut down the housing projects and began the gentrification of downtown they gave the former residents of the projects vouchers and relocated them all over Shelby County. Every neighborhood in Shelby County can be reached in 15-20 minutes via I240, I40 and 385. In some cases these clowns are getting into altercations, fleeing towards home via the interstate system, the shootings usually occur during the chase. In other cases, it’s just stupidity and road rage. I’ve been to a lot of places, but I’ve never seen anything like Memphis where the slightest perception of disrespect for the most minor infraction can send a bullet flying in your direction. It’s a mental illness. They don’t consider the repercussions until after they’ve been caught and held accountable for their actions. Street credibility is king in Memphis. As for the loss of innocent lives, they’ll apologize to your family while being lead out of courtroom to prison. It’s summer, so with all of the college kids back home I expect more of the same. That’s another whole story unto itself, the hood rats and gangs versus the kids who choose to attend college or join the military.

  3. I say let them go. I wish all the people who have supported the NRA over the years would "switch" to either the GOA or SAF, but I know that will not happen. Truthfully, the only thing that saddens me is that the left will consider it a huge victory and even take credit for the "failure of the NRA". Really though, it looks like the NRA has nobody to blame but themselves.

  5. I'm a bit surprised there's not a well publicized boycott yet, calling for no donations until Le Pew is gone. I don't know if the whole Board voted on keeping Le Pew or just some executive part of it or what, but even though there's undoubtedly any number of good apples on it, the whole leadership is tainted now too just by association, and probably ought to be replaced. -OS

  6. I worked for the City of Bartlett for 25 years. So I have a real good idea of how things are here. Bartlett PD is light years ahead of Memphis PD. They close cases and the bad guys know it. Yeah, we have our share of petty crimes. But serious stuff like armed robberies are rare here. And when they do happen, the bad guys do get caught. I can't even remember the last time there was a shooting, much less a murder here. Interesting story. A few years ago some guy robbed the Target store on HWY 64. At that point 64 is the city limit between Memphis and Bartlett. If the robber had stayed on the Target side of 64, he probably would have gotten away as MPD response time there is 30 minutes or more. Nope, this dummy crossed over into Bartlett. There we six BPD cruisers on him in less than half a mile. Bartlett is a fine town with an absolutely outstanding Police Force. I'm proud to live here.

  7. Anyone who seeks out or accepts an SRO position needs to know and understand that it is the one job in LE that nobody cares whether or not you survive if the worst happens. The survivability of an SRO is literally at the bottom of the list of concerns in a school attack. If the SRO dies, folks will mourn and laud their actions, but it will be considered an acceptable and worthy sacrifice. The primary job of the SRO in this day and age is to protect the kids by stopping an attacker. If the SRO has to die in furtherance of that end, so be it. It’s not the semi-retirement gig for Officer Friendly anymore. I think that needs to be made explicitly clear to folks before they accept the assignment. While my words are blunt, and my critical views on policing are not a secret, I hope y’all see that my words are not born of malice towards LE, but of belief in what the primary mission of the SRO position has become. To harden a target, you need hard men. Anyone who chooses to fill that role with the understanding of what the job really and willingness to do it, has my utmost respect.

  11. Mt Juliet TN mayor proposed a ordinance allowing city employees, who have valid concealed carry permits, to carry their EDC to work. He explained after the latest mass shooting where 11 city employees were killed, he feels his city employees have a right to self defense even at work. His plan is to allow them to carry for self protection. Be interesting to see if this flies. By the way, I agree with him.

  13. What is absolutely the most frustrating to me is that statistics can easily prove that law abiding citizens that own suppressors have an insanely low crime rate. The facts literally disprove the narrative. https://freebeacon.com/issues/atf-despite-nearly-1-3-million-silencers-united-states-rarely-used-crimes/ 1.3 million silencers. 44 suppressor related crimes per year over the last decade. However, the article doesn't suggest that those 44 suppressor related crimes were of the 1.3 million legal suppressors. It actually suggests the contrary with the following: Of those 44 crimes per year, only 6 involved defendants with prior felony convictions. I'm fairly certain that a defendant with a prior felony conviction could not legally possess a suppressor or firearm. So, that suggests of the "44 crimes", some (at minimum, 6) were illegal suppressors in some form or fashion! So...1.3 million legal suppressors...44 crimes per year "legal and not legal suppressors" and now suddenly it is an epidemic. It makes me sick just listening to the rhetoric because it is such a lie. Yes, people die at the hands of handguns and semi-automatic rifles, etc. I can at least understand why those types of weapons are opposed by many. Of course I still oppose any restrictions on them. But opposing legal suppressor ownership is as backwards as could be seeing as how the people who go through the process for obtaining a legal suppressor are about as standup as can be.

  14. Just for clarification, I don’t think they’re all junkies either. I just don’t want to hear Memphis terrible and nothing bad ever happens in the sticks.

  20. But that just doesn't seem accurate to me. I have a place in a small town, less than 600 people. I think thats about as country as it gets. We don't have a stoplight even. But the folks across the street's granddaughter is a methhead heroine junkie and has multiple felonies for stealing stuff and bashing people's heads in. And she ain't the only one. The neighbors next door used to be junkies but they are all locked up so its some of their family living there now. The rural areas are full of junkies and criminals. There is even a thread about a whole county of junkies in the hunting section.

  22. No, they can’t search your phone as part of an investigation without a warrant or consent. But that wasn’t my point. Like most people, if they want to see my phone they aren’t going to be able to see anything on it. I’m just skeptical of the statistics being used. I could be wrong, but I doubt that unless it’s a very serious accident there is a bunch of cell phone data being mined with a warrant. And from working traffic many years ago I am absolutely sure that people are not forth coming about what they doing at the time of an accident; I doubt that’s changed. I don’t doubt people texting are killing folks.

  23. Yeah, federal but not a national park, although TVA has stated that boat ramp access areas and "unimproved property" is okay. Corps of Engineers controlled areas are I suppose still technically no carry. But you never really hear about anyone getting slammed by either authority anywhere, guess everyone conceal carries, eh? - OS

  24. Nope, legit in all parks. Allowed for "persons possessing a handgun, who are authorized to carry the handgun pursuant to § 39-17-1351, while within or on a public park, natural area, historic park, nature trail, campground, forest, greenway, waterway, or other similar public place that is owned or operated by the state, a county, a municipality, or instrumentality of the state, a county, or municipality...." 25. Your mil id would do just fine, not sure about the VA id. When I got my license a few years ago, I had to show my naturalization certificate, and my passport. That, as I was told, was to be compliant with the REAL Id act. I'll try again tomorrow when I fly out, see if they accept it or not.

  26. I have one, but I haven't shot it in over a year. To the best of my recollection, it did not "roll" on me. I thought that would be the case the first time I saw one. But after holding it, I just had to have one. I believe the New Model Vaquero to be one of the prettiest pistols ever made! Heck...my wife even likes it!

  28. My training certificate from 06', has my gun's info on it but no SN, just make, model, and caliber. That was my biggest concern when I deployed, what I would do under fire. In my head, I felt I would react properly but one never knows until it happens. Fortunately my reactions were what I thought they would be, and I was much calmer than even I suspected I would be. Some of my fellow troops needed some encouragement, but nothing as bad as all that.

  30. I think most of us do. I think people should be trained, but I too think that is their responsibility. I recently changed my mind on requiring training; you can’t require training for a Constitutional right. Tennessee doesn’t recognize carry as a right; so, they can require anything they want…. but that doesn’t make it right. Also, take a look at the accidental/negligent shootings we see. It appears to me that most of them are committed by people who at one point had basic training but have become complacent.

  31. I agree. For this to continue to be an effective organization...head(s) must roll somewhere at the top. If Lapierre truly has the best interest of the 2nd Amendment and the people at heart...he should leave.

  32. If the NRA is going to come out of this strong, WLP needs to step down. It doesn't even matter if he is responsible for any of the crap. He should throw himself on the grenade, and turn leadership over to someone else. If he doesn't, its always going to be to the detriment of the organization.

  35. Just got my order from Brownells who recently started offering a shipment of Romanian TT-33C's from M&M. There were listed at $219.99. End result, $199.99 to my door for a numbers matching arsenal refinished TT-33....heck, I may need another one. The one I received was all numbers matching, original star grips in perfect shape, lanyard magazine, and a great barrel. The arsenal finish was a re-blueing, but it was not as nice as some. Part of that had to do with the fact this gun had a lot of surface metal variation from areas which showed heavier sanding or wire wheel marks without being smoothed over before it was dipped. Also they didnt flush grind the extractor pin as with the original guns. Final product is a bit splotchy up close or under the bright lighting, but considering its surplus its good overall. Their site is not currently set up to handle someone with an C&R, just ship to FFL1's. So I called and was quickly transferred to a very nice compliance person. I let her know they are C&R guns and I wanted to buy if I could have it sent to me. She verified with her one up that was OK (my C&R was already on file with them for the discount). But she would have to enter it. I asked about using their current $20 off $200....tried it, and it was all good. Being an edge member, I get free shipping and no gun xfer fee (normally $10). If you have that set-up, well worth picking one or two of these up.

  36. It is demonic forces. No I am not kidding. Just look at some of the news headlines from around the state. Things like folks beating toddlers to death, starving them, men beating their pregnant wives or girlfriends and killing her and the unborn child. The devil and his demons at work. Look at some of the mugshot pictures and tell me they aren't possessed. Granted alcohol and drugs may be involved, but they look demonic to me.

  37. I have a crew of other drivers that I talk to. Driving a CMV while talking on the phone using a headset is legal and isn’t rocket surgery. We drive and chat all day. As far as cab facing cameras go, while increasingly common, they are by no means universal or even close to it. My take on them is if you can’t trust me to get your freight from point a to be safely without your eye in the sky watching me, you don’t need me to be hauling for you. My company tested them and determined that they were a greater liability than potential benefit. Anyone who wants to put a camera on me can pound sand.

  38. I’m for hands free. I can’t stand seeing the people who drive around holding their phone like it’s a piece of pizza. That’s not any safer than holding it to your ear. Plus I can’t stand talking to someone on speaker. It sounds like you are in a cave. I also don’t like that LEO are exempt. I don’t think that they are any better at driving.

  39. I don’t see any way that it stands. SCOTUS has made it clear multiple times that police have no legal duty to act to protect citizens from harm. Peterson absolutely failed his moral duty to protect those kids, but he had no legal duty to act.
