  1. This past week I moved from VA to TN. Prior to my move, I was offered a deal I had to take. My final act as a Virginia resident was a deal I worked with a gentleman to find a new home for this beautiful, unconverted gun. Bluing is beautiful, grips are beautiful, couple nicks here and there. Nice plum color on the loading gate. Serial number 31610. Overall, very pleased with this one. This particular Old Model Flattop configuration is rare and not your average Ruger. Very excited to take this bad boy out!

  2. I found a really good supplier of fully prepped .223 / 5.56 MM rifle brass. This stuff is priced good. And is delivered, (free shipping), via. USPS Priority Mail in just a few days. And it comes ready to load. Fully cleaned inside and out, by wet tumbling in Stainless Steel pins. Fully trimmed, resized, with the primer pockets swaged. All that's left is to run it through the Dillon. All I did additional was to chamfer the case mouths with a VLD Chamfer Tool on my RCBS Case Prep Center to allow easier bullet seating. The primers seat beautifully in these cases, with just the right amount of pressure. All to the proper depth. And none stand proud. You can't beat the price. I bought 2,500 rounds for just $179.00. (It's $10.00 more now, and they're showing, "out of stock" at the moment. But they resupply fast. I'm going to order more as soon as they get more in. I load this stuff by the 30 pound bowl full, with the bulk 6,000 round boxed, Hornady 55 Gr. FMJ Boat Tail. With Hogdon CFE 223 Powder. That stuff burns clean and accurate. But more importantly, it flows through a Dillon powder measure like water. From there it goes into .50 Cal ammo cans. This ammo runs perfectly in all of my AR's. And it delivers MOA groups in calm conditions, in both my CZ-527 and Marlin X-7 bolt guns. For this price it just doesn't pay to buy non prepped brass any more. Resizing and prepping brass is the biggest PITA in reloading. This stuff makes your time at the reloading bench much more productive. All of the loaded rounds gage properly in my Dillon Case Gauge. And they chamber effortlessly. https://msprocessedbrass.com/product-category/rifle-brass

  3. Dry firing a rimfire is generally not a good idea as the firing pin might slam against the chamber wall causing damage to the pin and possibly peening the outer chamber as well. Expensive snap caps are usually the answer. Well, if you didn’t know, yellow drywall anchors are about the exact same size as a .22 round and cost only pennies each. They even extract in semi autos. BTW, I doubt they work for loading up a mag and running drills...if one wanted to do such a thing.

  4. Man you really have a rare one there, only a few 100 were ever made with a 10"Bbl. You need to put that one in the safe. From your pictures it looks to be in really good condition, the cylinder only has faint turn lines on it, is that the original box you have?

  5. Yeah, very little emergency preparedness and she might have been home the next day. Just a few simple things in your pocket can be a life saver. EDC - What's in your pocket?

  6. This is to the key note speaker... The quack medicine vendor is busier than ever. Money is plenty and he wants some of it. He uses mental suggestion and interests us. He is a specialist in distortion who probes into the ordinary sensations of healthy people and perverts them into symptoms. Every billboard, newspaper, fence-rail, barn and rock thrusts out a suggestion of sickness as never before. The only vulnerable point to attack the vicious traffic is the advertising. If governments forbid that as they should, the next generation will be healthier and richer. Written in 1918. 10. That's a great find right there, I've only seen a few of those and they weren't for sale. I'm still looking for a 10"Bbl. 44 to replace one I had from awhile back. Enjoy your Ruger and welcome to TN.

  14. My experience with lead free primers has been a pretty negative one. They were Tula lead-free small pistol primers , but let me add that I've loaded in excess of 10-15 K "regular" Tula small pistol primers with absolutely no problems. Of the 5K tray of lead-free Tula I loaded, I'm guessing 5% were either duds (would not ignite) or required a second strike to ignite. It's always possible I got into a bad run of them. This happened back around 2013-2014 by my records. Lead free primers from other vendors may be fine, but I personally shy away from them. I'm sticking with standard Winchester and Federal primers at this point. As far as loading suggestions: just make sure your primer pockets are clean and seat them properly. Please share your experiences once your decision is made.

  15. The question is whether it will make it easier to engage targets at distance? Absolutely. It gives you a much finer aiming point. What I consider easy shots at 25 yards with irons are easy shots at 50 with the dot and 75-100 is still doable if the target is big enough. As to the question of whether you can summon the skill to do it under fire? Absolutely NO ONE else can answer that but YOU in the moment it happens. And how you react initially has absolutely nothing to do with your equipment. Some people thrive and some crumple. It's either in you or it isn't and the sights have nothing to do with it. But consider this.....would you rather have some more effective or less effective equipment at hand in case you DO rise to the occasion (or more likely to your level of internalized training) ? The red dot gives some of us a legit 50 + yard straight up time after time effective distance. It does not make you a better shooter but it does make aiming the gun at distance simpler since the front sight is not covering up the whole guy... If you are interested.....
