Man. A whole lot of lives changed in one stupid, avoidable incident. You owe it to society at large to keep your weapon secure.3 points

Yeah concealed carry...implies you are carrying it. Not leaving it lying around in a crowded place. First rule parents should teach kids: "Kids if you see a gun don't touch it and get an adult" Failure all around. That kid will rightfully need therapy no matter how mom's conditions ends up.3 points

And if the guy had been able to LEGALLY carry the gun ON HIS PERSON and not be FORCED to leave it behind then this would not have happened either. I'm not saying he bears no responsibility. I'm saying if it had stayed secured ON HIS PERSON then this could not have happened. But because people (legislature) thinks that an otherwise law abiding person suddenly becomes a craven killer if he carries his gun anywhere near a school event he is forced to leave it unattended. Now should it have been better secured? Of course. But it does not get any more secured than when it is secured on your person. This is a good argument for an "enhanced permit" that would allow those so permitted to carry ANYWHERE so that they are not being forced to leave guns unattended in public when they enter areas that otherwise do not allow guns.2 points

It's only terrible acting if they weren't doing it on purpose. If they meant it to come out like that, it's brilliant acting!2 points

Owner cannot legally carry during a college ballgame. Additionally, if left in the automobile, it must be locked inside the vehicle out of sight. Should be in a secure container locked as well in this situation.2 points

Word is filtering down through even the most news-adverse parts of the membership, and I see no way the NRA is going to remain particularly influential unless LaPierre and Cox depart. Maybe some others high up also, including perhaps much of the existing BOD. I see Allen West agrees: One of the mantras of the left has for some time been "don't fear the NRA", and this whole scandal simply amplifies that. Though I've often been critical of its PR methods, I had no idea that the NRA operated like this. The fact it's in the red at all, let alone due to mismanagement and greed (and perhaps outright illegal graft), shocks even a cynic like me. If I'm any example, it will be suffering financially more than ever in short order (I'm an endowment member, and wish I could get a frigging refund). - OS2 points

I've got their . 22WMR rifle and pistol, and love them. If they get more available and at a decent price, I may pick one up. Would be nice to have one with a suppressor.1 point

I downloaded those before they disappear. I haven’t read them all yet, but there is plenty of interesting reading there. It saddens me that the NRA has shown its belly to the gun hate groups and to Prosecutors that would love to take them down.1 point

Using a "money is like drugs in various forms" analogy, some senior members of the NRA are at full junkie status. Making a lot in salary is like weed...feels good, tends to become a lifestyle enhancer, an individual may or may not be sated based on their personality. Making a lot of salary, and being able to decrease your taxable income by running expenses that brush legitimacy through a corporation is like cocaine...much more of a rush than weed, but leaves you wanting more. Making a lot of salary, and having personal expenses taken care of (or at the least a lifestyle funded) in a way that never even hits your income before expense reduction or equalization...that's the heroin right there, and you're always after the perpetual high. Going back to a mundane life of the first two options, no matter how much better you have it than the small-folk, is to be avoided like the plague. No surprise to me that WLP is ready to go to the mattresses to keep his status and what it enables. Wouldn't bat an eye if call girls are brought up before it's all said and done...certainly it's about the only routine thing left in a situation like this. I will concede that the NRA needs to pay some folks a high salary. For those living in the DC Metro area alone, you need to pay commensurate to the market. For top level people, you need to pay them in the ballpark for their sector of work, though working for a cause like the NRA should count for something (you would think). But that only enables the weed stage as described above...the NRA has ventured far into cocaine and heroin, and that's going to take a lot of institutional willpower if they want to take the road to recovery. NY State may throw them in a metaphorical detox before they get to that point, however. Having bashed the NRA for their behavior, I'm not really shocked at this because it was always about the money to me. But just how fast and loose they are playing things is a bit surprising. I expected the usual stuff like using an expense policy to fund vacations, generous vehicle mileage, or even organization vehicles assigned, things that you are far more likely to sign off on when it's not your money at stake. Seems there isn't even a modicum of adherence to some guiding rules for their own protection. I mean, seriously...paying the President of the organization through the PR firm is flabbergasting. Non-profits are always going to be under a microscope with financial accounting, and that's a good thing. If they didn't see this day coming, they were idiots. This isn't a private partnership taking expenses at the depletion of their own payouts, it's a non-profit using money raised from the public because [INSERT BOOGEYMAN HERE] is coming for your guns.1 point

If I’m not mistaken dealers buy the stamps from the state then slap them on whatever size container of ammo. Tax paid. It costs the state $19k to run the program that results in $436k net income. I call that highly efficient and a ROI any business would be envious of.1 point

I was afraid to open this thread - thinking they were somehow marketing a new membership level to evangelicals. At least it wasn’t that. I’m to the point that I really believe that the NRA may simply have too much baggage to continue to represent gun owners without spending at least as much time defending themselves. This wouldn’t be a terrible situation if there were other groups that could muster the resources to fight court cases while the NRA takes the heat. It’s clear that what got the NRA to this point won’t get them where they need to be in the future. I’d love to see an advocacy organization that’s as diverse as the gun community is. But, it’s also clear that anyone that wants to boot LaPierre and the current leadership structure better get up pretty early in the morning. Oliver North just found that out the hard way. There’s still a lot of money - and a lot of power at stake. They care about that more than they do the second amendment or anything else. They’re not going to give it up without a bloody fight.1 point

A few points: Yes, this was anti-gun tax. It was a tax on top of the normal TN sales tax. It was inefficient to collect. A five round package of shotgun slugs got a single stamp, and so did a 1000rd bulk pack of 5.56mm. TN does not need the tiny amount of money. It probably costs nearly as much to administer the program as it collects. We run a surplus. It makes sense to get rid of small sources of revenue and concentrate on more efficient ones.1 point

July 1st. How is TWRA going to make up for the $436,300 loss in revenue? How did this even pass with that significant of a decrease? http://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/BillInfo/Default.aspx?BillNumber=HB0494&GA=1111 point

I've drilled gas block dimples on 3 Faxon barrels using the SLR jigs. Two of the barrels were their "pencil" barrels with 0.625" gas block journals. I was worried about getting through the nitride, but the bits went through it. I went really slowly because I was worried about drilling too deep. So I drilled a little & checked, a little more & checked. I was so focused on that I didn't ready notice it being difficult getting through the nitride.1 point

Me too. Each one is just a little different and I learn something every time. Best lesson I’ve learned is that cheap sometimes cost more in the long run lol. That being said, I’ve had some good budget items that surprised me. Also learned that I have Lamborghini tastes with Mustang income and sometimes I have to save a long time to get what I want1 point

Don’t let it bother you man. It used to bother me and came very to close to getting me banned here. Now I try very hard to address the issues being discussed without posting any judgements about why the person is making the statements they are making. We won’t change the minds of any cop haters. I often wonder what happened to them to have that much hate. You and I both know something may have happened to them to cause that hate. Having been a Police Officer I try to help the people that are asking questions understand what is going on and what is going to happen based on my experience. This is the internet, everyone offers their opinions and it is up to the reader to decide if what they are reading makes sense. I hate to see young people get bad information, sometimes from their parents, that will get the kids jammed up, simply because their parents hate cops. Parents owe their kids better than that.1 point

Well ....that is your right , you can remain silent. And everyone I know (and know of) in the "expert witness business" and attorneys who actually have experience defending innocent people all give the same advice.... give a limited statement to make sure you are on record as being the victim. Again...ask Larry Hickey how remaining silent did not help him . For those who don't know Larry's story ......https://armedcitizensnetwork.org/images/stories/Hickey_Booklet.pdf He was an instructor for Tactical Response and took the " STFU" advice that they gave...... if he'd just told the cops what happened instead of clamming up he'd have probably slept in his own bed that night and not spent 71 days in jail.... And on traffic stops...I guess I have just been lucky. I have yet to be set upon by the jack booted thugs of the state. In the last 30 years I have been pulled over probably a good 10 times for things ranging from running a stop sign (dismissed in court with help of the officer who I did not know) speeding (went to court and spent a day in DD school) and several times where I should have gotten a ticket but got a warning instead. And then there was one time that the cop didn't want to write me an expensive ticket for speeding so he asked me to take my seat belt off while he turned around and looked away so he could then write it for a seat belt violation instead of for speeding. So I'm not sure which exact jurisdiction all the "out to get you" street cops are in but apparently it is not in any of the ones I've been pulled over in (ranging from TN to GA, and AL) I have yet to have my rights violated, and far more times than not I have been let go with just a warning. But then again I don't get adversarial with them and I show them the same respect I show preachers and little old ladies.1 point

OK... so it turns out that the window licker that assembled the barrel assembly headspaced the damn thing wrong. The gun made it to West Tennessee and wouldn't go into battery. Taught me two things. 1. Never assemble an AR without checking headspace, cause there really are people dumb enough to feck that up these days. 2. Never ever again buy an AR Stoner barrel, cause we know where at least one of said dumbasses works. The gun is now wearing my second Ballistics Advantage Premium barrel, and the headspace is fine. The Stoner barrel is in UPS, headed back to the dumbass.0 points
