  1. Just finished reading " Jack Hinson's One-Man War, A Civil War Sniper", a lot of interesting history about the area of The Land Between The Lakes. Was not aware of a lot of this history. Used a 50 cal special made Kentucky Long Rifle to do his sniping. We used to fish some of the areas that are mentioned in the book. If you are a Civil War fan this is interesting reading. Book was republished in 2018.

  2. Hi! I am not totally new, I have been a member as a “civilian”, lol. I cannot find a post where I introduced my business, although I did post a few events a couple of months back. So, here goes! I join you as a new business owner! AK Virtual Arms Training LLC opened its doors to the public March 1, 2019. We take firearms safety training into entertaining new directions with the realistic firearms simulator. Although we teach the usual TN Permit Class type stuff, we stretch out into interesting new directions like virtual firearms competitions, 2A parties, youth training and bucket list scenarios! We are technical people and we create our own scenarios from scratch. We can do that for you or your business too! Here is the website. Visit the videos page if you have never seen a firearms simulator before. Sincerely, Andrea, Owner https://AKvat.com

  3. I’ve mentioned elsewhere that I bought a Browning HiPower that I was planning on fancying up. As a reminder, this is where she started out. Just a standard, MkIII produced in 1990 for commercial sale. Heres what she looks like today now that she’s back from my gunsmith. She’s had new sights (tritium front, blacked out rear), new hammer, sear, sear lever, trigger job, new grips, all new springs and various internal parts replaced. Original painted finish stripped off, polished and rust blued. She’s soooo much prettier in person than these pics show.

  4. I think you nailed it A.J. People are being manipulated. I've refrained from posting in the other "socialism" thread but I really believe the media is only trying to sell stories and divide us. I'm 31 years old now. I know a lot of younger people from 21-35. I have friends in San Diego, Portland OR, Orlando, Omaha and places in between. In all my years meeting people my age I have never met anyone who advocated for socialism. I would say I have an equal amount of friends that lean right and left. This idea that all young people are hoping to overthrow capitalism is simply not true. I really wish people would stop lumping us all into buckets. Now, I have heard people complain about the need for affordable healthcare and I happen to agree with them. Does that mean I want to live in a socialistic society? No. But I also don't believe that all forms of socialism are horrible. In my recent tour of Europe I can tell you the people seem to be doing just fine. They were happy, healthy(you literally couldn't find an overweight person), and seemed to be going about their lives just like us. They just pay an assload more in taxes. If you really think about it, we're either going to pay more for healthcare by having our employer suck it out of our paycheck or having the government collect more in taxes. I find it very hypocritical that the same people complaining about socialism have no problem using medicare. You can bet your ass that if the gub'ment suddenly offered medicare for all, the same folks rallying against it would be signing up the next week. Going back to the academia point. I can only speak to my time at Pellissippi State and UTK. I'm not denying that the professors are largely liberal. But the idea that they are shoving that agenda down our throats, or brainwashing us, is simply not true. In my 4 years I can only remember one time when politics came up and it was when TN was considering allowing guns on campus. Of course they complained. I would really encourage some of our older crowd to actually have some conversations with younger people and stop believing everything you read on The Blaze.

  5. When you have your own business, it takes an amazing amount of time to sell, upsell and market outside of the shop to new clients, not just in the shop. I think many people underestimate the marketing and marketing constantly changes because of technology and services like GunBroker. I think a range business can be viable, but the commitment needs to be just as much to marketing, as to maintaining a storefront, range and inventory. So, you have to love guns and marketing.

  6. In 2007, Venezuela completed the purchase of 100,000 AKs for 34,000 soldiers and 23,000 national guard. They then ordered 5000 sniper rifles. NYT story https://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/16/world/europe/15cnd-russia.html And here is a view of today https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2019/05/msnbc_contributor_admit_a_hard_truth_that_in_venezuela_arms_ownership_matters.html When progs, libs, and Dems scream about Tyrant Trump and dictatorship, my response is: "Shouldn't you be armed? We have the 2A to protect ourselves from oppressive government."

  7. My understanding is they are still in business but take months to deliver. Their ordering process is only one step above getting something out of the back of a comic book back in the day. Regardless, I want to get a couple and may just suck it up and send off for them.

  8. and yet the young ones in this country are leaning left to a Socialist .gov. All because schools have gone left, and that is the fault of the adults that allowed it to happen. I am not pointing a finger at anyone. I do look in the mirror and ask if I should have, or could do more.

  9. I found the problem. We had a bad banner ad file get uploaded at about the same time the forum software version was incremented. The fact that you guys said it started at a very specific time today helped me narrow it down. Thank you!

  11. Hello everyone! I'm a designer in the Chattanooga area. I started my graphics career back in the early 00's working as in-house designer for Dawson Precision Firearms outside Austin, TX. https://dawsonprecision.com/ I learned a lot about guns from Dave and the guys there, and I plinked with pistols early on, but never personally owned a rifle til now. I'm brand new to riflery, and though I've bought two rifles in the last year, I haven't gotten to shoot yet (a crime in itself). I figure it's about time I step up and round out my duty as an American and learn the one skill that we might end up needing at some point. This forum looks like it's active and engaged. That's awesome. I'm looking for someone to shoot with and learn from, as well as getting involved in the world of AR shooting. As far as I can tell, Chattanooga is woefully lacking in good rifle ranges that don't cost a fortune, so I'm scouting for a place to practice in or around Hamilton County.

  13. Generally ingesting television gives me heartburn... I have a friend who's kid is at UNC. They luckily were not involved in the shooting. He thinks based on discussions that several people they know there are leaning more towards getting their hcp instead of protesting for more laws. Now that is just a few. Hopefully more young people begin to balance their right and responsibility to protect themselves with the laws that allow us punish those that do harm. I never met a law that stopped a moving bullet.

  14. From their website the main difference I can gather is the redesign trimmed some weight off the 693.

  15. I thought that Silver pigeons were field guns. Only a little fancier. I'll be inheriting one some day. I also like the Remington o/u's.

  18. The Hi-Power is my absolute favorite 9mm. The king of all 9mms. I've got a MK III and a couple of clones myself. That's a very nice looking gun! Excellent work! Enjoy!

  19. Sevier Indoor Range just closed this past Dec 31. There was some advance notice, but not a lot. They had been around for quite some time. It also seems fashionable to have multiple investors involved in ranges. In this case, it feels like the business location was not turning a good profit per square foot so the investors are going to do something different with it. It’s just business in their minds. What if the majority investor is not as pro-gun as the others? In my mind, there are way too many ranges closing, and not enough new ones to replace them. (I belong to a very special team of range business and technical specialists. Pm me if you know someone who could use assistance.)

  21. I spent a little time about a week or so ago talking with a couple young people just fresh out of college and leaning a little left and we got on the subject of guns and I was kind of shocked at their replies to a few of my questions. They lean left in public when they are in a crowd of people but behind the scenes they are not anti-gun at all and they all own one or more and were raised up in a home where firearms were a part of their lives. So that now has me wondering just how many of these Socialist protesters are really ready to support what is on their posters when it's crunch time. Recently it has been said that even Nancy Pelosi is not really anti 2nd Amendment and yes she owns a gun or two. In talking with these young people they said it is only certain professors that talk politics in their classes but most of them stay focused on the course they are paid to teach. So now who do you believe is the question?

  22. Nightforce just announced last week two new NX8 models, fyi since you have the itch. Specs sound promising.

  23. Oh, I absolutely agree. But on the 442s, they are such a dull matte blue that they might as well be painted. I did recently come into an older S&W Airweight that I think would be a sin to paint, though.

  24. We've all seen this before. Gun shops come and go. There are always people left hanging in the wind with guns on consignment, orders placed, guns to pick up, etc. Most of these problems are generally worked out. There are usually legal issues that have to be sorted out and that takes time. Customers may not be happy and I don't blame them. But be patient, it'll all be sorted out. What concerns me is that this was a well established business with a loyal customer base. Then it closed up without any warning at all??? What's that all about? I'm curious to know just what happened?

  25. Thanks for the advice. I have in the past used Sam Hoster in Gallatin. If he only touched my guns, I'd be very happy. But that's not always the case. Not too thrilled with the rep of some of his helpers.

  29. Buy one and do a heads up comparison against your Nightforce. (However....its a 1x8, not a lot there to compare, other than build quality) As some of y’all may know, I’m a USA made snob; when I can be. Trumps making the Chinese stop counterfeiting Leupold. So they need to find a legit market. I wouldn’t be in a hurry to put that kinda money in one. As someone that just retired from QA, I can say being QA’d in Montana only means it is being checked to the QA specs; not necessarily competitive to their other line. You need to be the guinea pig on this Chuck and let us know how it goes.
