  1. Are you looking for full, commander, or compact (Officer) sized 1911’s? 9mm or .45? Rock Island Armory offers all three sizes in both calibers for under $500. They are generally excellent pistols and a great value.

  2. A federal ban on bump stocks has gone into effect today, Tuesday, March 26, 2019. Issued by the United States Justice Department in December, the rule decided that existing prohibitions against fully automatic weapons also covered bump stocks. Those in possession of the attachments were given 90 days to turn them in or destroy them. That period ended yesterday, March 25th. If you are now found in possession of a bump stock you may face the same penalties as anyone found illegally in possession of a non-registered, non-transferable machine gun. Namely, you can be punished by fines and up to ten (10) years in prison per count. Unlike transferable machine guns sold to civilians prior to May 19, 1986, which may still legally be bought and sold by private individuals on the secondary market so long as all National Firearms Act rules are followed and the requisite Federal taxes paid (aka Tax Stamps), bump stocks owned prior to March 26, 2019, are not being grandfathered in. Private individuals may not continue to possess them and are required to have previously surrendered them to the BATFE or permanently destroy them according to guidelines provided by the BATFE. Those guidelines can be found at the following link, and an attachment of the document (current as of 03/26/2019) is also attached to this post. https://www.atf.gov/rules-and-regulations/bump-stocks/how-to-destroy We here at TGO HQ are, of course, dismayed by the way that this has developed and hope that rational, calmer minds prevail and that the US Supreme Court will strike down this ruling as the gross overreach of power that it is. Until that happens, continuing to possess one of these items is of course done at your own risk. If you have further information that you feel should be included in this thread, send me a Private Message and I will add it - subject to review. bump_fire_stocks_and_devices_destruction_diagram_12-27-18.pdf

  7. Lazy Loading for Faster Pages It may seem counter-intuitive to say that something "lazy" brings better performance but, in this case, it is a true statement. Version 4.4 of the IPBoard software (what our forum runs on) introduces Lazy Loading of page content which in turn makes pages load faster for you while you are browsing. Lazy Loading is a method by which attachments, embeds and images are not loaded by default. They are only loaded when the viewer scrolls down enough to make them visible. This allows the page to load a good deal faster because it doesn't have to load megabytes of images before the page is shown as completely rendered. When you scroll through posts with pictures included on TGO, you will notice the way that pictures subtly come into view as you encounter them. This is Lazy Loading at work. The forum software loads the picture for you just before you actually get to it. Much the same way that Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other such services deliver content to you as you scroll rather than trying to generate huge pages of data all at once. If you're curious for more info, you can read about it on Invision Power's blog, here: https://invisioncommunity.com/news/product-updates/44-turbo-charging-loading-speeds-r1109/

  8. In your price range I would check out the Remington R1 Commander. Grab a gun has them for $560 new. I have not owned one, but they get good reviews. Going a little over you budget I would look at the Ruger SR1911 Commander at $742 new. I owned one of those when they first came out in the full size and it was an excellent gun. Plus its stainless. I don’t care for shorter than the full size. Functionality and accuracy suffers, and you are already carrying a big heavy gun, so the .75 additional barrel length really doesn’t matter. Check your prices on new vs. used. Recently I haven’t been able to save enough to justify buying used; but you may find a good deal if you put a “want to buy” ad here.

  9. You can probably still hunt around a bit and find a decent 70 series Colt Gold Cup for around a grand. Good shooter, and you dang sure won't have any trouble getting money back out of it if you ever decide you no longer want it.

  10. Hello I'm anthony. I moved to Kingston springs about 6 months ago from San Diego cali. Now that I have a good job and settled in. I would love to meet someone that could show me the ropes when it comes to hunting in Tennessee. I grew up bird hunting in Alabama but would love to get in to bird and deer hunting here. And I'm looking forward to having my 2nd amendment rights back lol.

  11. I wear my seatbelt every time I get in a vehicle. That being said, if you do not want to wear one , I don't have a problem with it. I worked as a police officer for a couple of years about 40 years ago. I believe if we had seat belt laws back then, I would have probably ignored most violations. I feel today the seatbelt violation is often used simply as probable cause to stop a car for which you really have no probable cause. Something about that vehicle just doesn't look right. You stop him for a seatbelt violation and then look for something else.

  12. Well, I will say this. I wear my lap belt but don't use the shoulder strap that crosses my abdomen because of all the mesh in my body my doctor has recomended I don't wear it. I would not have to have a wreck or hit anything. A sudden stop could cause damage to the mesh inside my abdomen by the should strap pressure. Now because I don't have the shoulder strap I have been puled over several times for it. I have a letter from my doctor explaining why it is recomended I don't wear it in my console. Every time I get pulled over and the officer asks for my license and proof of insurance they tell me they stopped me for not wearing my seat belt. I ask them if I can open my door and show them that I do in fact have my seat belt on. Then I offer to show them the letter from my doctor. Soon as the officer sees I do have my lap belt clicked they hand me my license and insurance card back and say thank you and have a good day and that is the end of it. No big issues, no questioning if I am trying to be smart or anything else. None of them have even taken the time to read the letter. I would not argue with any officer that chose to write me a ticket. I would have just thanked him/her, went to court with the letter from my doctor and accepted what ever the judge saw fit to do. How many times do you hear about serious accidents involving death that the person or people killed were not wearing their seat belts. The law is written to save lives and the belts are put in cars to save lives and all the officers are doing is their job when they stop someone for not wearing one. I also have a fully operational air bag in my vehicle............JMHO

  13. Buy a replacement slide stop, cut the right side off, install it. If you don't like it, switch back. I like to practice shooting wrong handed (happens to be lefty for me) so I'd keep it on there. But it's your pistol and I can't really see that change hurting anything, so knock yourself out.

  14. I can see not liking an ambi-safety but a Glock slide stop? It’s so minimal to begin with and how could it possibly interfere with anything? I can definitely see the possibility of unintended consequences by cutting part of it off. What, I have no idea, but seems to me the odds are greater than leaving it alone.

  19. It's a shame this happened in the first place the way it did...but it's even a bigger slap in the face that they were not "buying back" the stocks. It's a shame.

  23. Unfollow Without Logging In TGO only sends email to our members unless they agree to allow us that privilege. Each email that we send includes a link that allows you to Opt-Out even more easily than you opted-in. In previous versions, the unfollow link would have taken you to a login page if you were signed out. For members that haven't been back in a while, this may cause some annoyance if they do not recall their login details. Invision Community 4.4 allows non-logged in members to unfollow the item they received an email about or all followed items without the need to log in.

  29. Another vote for the Springfield Range Officer. The absolute best bang for the buck that meets your criteria. First 1911 should Must be a .45acp. Anything less is depriving yourself of the true 1911 experience.

  31. Just in case anyone needs to know. When you have a record expunged in Tennessee, the state MAILS the orders to TBI and they have up to 60 days to remove it. The mailing process is slow, as we found out. My husband called them on Wednesday to ask how long and was told that if the state had FAXED it, it would have been removed in hours. He told them he had a copy of the orders and could he fax and was told yes. He faxed them at 4:15pm with a cover sheet with his name and phone number. Then on Thursday morning he got a call at 8:15am and was informed that they got the fax and removed it. He asked about the FBI and was told they removed it the same day the state does! We wasn't sure, so he decided to wait 24 hours. Friday morning, he went to Academy Sports, picked out a Glock g43x and submitted the paperwork for the nics check. 15 minutes later he legally purchased his first handgun and skipped off out of the store grinning from ear to ear! Once in the truck, he scheduled his ccw class for this morning. Needless to say, after having a felony since he was 20 years old, 30 years later and he is no longer a felon. Thank you all for your interest and feedback. I hope this helps anyone in the same situation. The attorney we used is Daniel Horwitz in Nashville. Highly recommended.

  32. It’s going to take a while for the expungement to work it’s way through the system(s)...if it ever does. Believe it or not all LEO systems are not interconnected, far from it actually. Expect to be denied, then appeal with the paperwork.

  33. Just a follow up to this. I showed up at the DMV with everything suggested, and was asked for nothing other than filling out a form with my DL, SSN and Permit Course number. The guy took my pic, I paid my money, and off I went to the fingerprinting place.
