Another vote for the Springfield Range Officer. The absolute best bang for the buck that meets your criteria. First 1911 should Must be a .45acp. Anything less is depriving yourself of the true 1911 experience.3 points

Sorry to hear about your forced move. I'm sure the area your'e in, housing is crazy compared to Cookeville. To anybody starting out, not just speaking as a Realtor but a former renter, longterm homeowner, former landlord and soon to be again landlord........ 90% of the time if you can swing it and plan on staying put at least 5 years. BUY! Little or no down payment or lower income? The govt. can assist with USDA loans or VA backed loans. (some restrictions apply). You guys that have good income, good credit???? What are you waiting for? Wish I could go back in time...... I'd be Rich, all the money I pissed away on worthless junk if I'd have bought a second or even third home earlier and been getting renters to pay the mortgage????? Anyway, don't say nobody ever told you.3 points

You told Springfield? I've had two EMPs that would not run until after going back to Springfield. This had nothing to do with 9mm and everything to do with tight chamber dimensions, for which Springfield 9mm 1911s are notorious. All the obsession with fully supported chambers is silly, but whatever. After Springfield opened up the chambers and cut the feed ramp slightly, they both ran like Glocks. I bought the second EMP years later with the suspicion that it would end up back at Springfield. Springfield customer service is great from my experience, but I don't understand why they don't properly cut the chamber before it leaves the factory. 9mm 1911s can be more dramatic, but this is usually a magazine issue. Dawson Precision or Chip McCormick mags usually solve the problem. The EMPs use a proprietary mag, but as stated above, the magazine wasn't the problem.1 point

Her hobby helps fund mine. I don't question what she buys and she doesn't question what I buy. Since we are both cheap it works. If we weren't we would run out of money pretty quick.1 point

But that’s my point, aren’t these laws attempting to create due process? Its been a lot of years since I was a Police Officer, but due process was whatever I decided it o be at the time. Things are worse now, cops aren’t going to leave someone in their home with guns after they had made threats; the liability is too high. We just a case a few months ago where that happened, the result was several people dead. Some here blamed the cops and the social workers called to the scene for not making an arrest or taking the guns. Yet some of them also say the Red Flag laws are a violation of their rights. You can't have it both ways; and it isn't going to be. There was not good grounds for making an arrest; there was grounds for taking the guns. The cops and the social workers failed. Would it have made a difference in the final outcome? Who knows. But I’m sure that is impacting cops and mental health workers decisions all over the country. I understand that some people are afraid family members may lie. That may well happen, but that is a situation they created. I’m not supporting any specific piece of legislation. I’m just saying that due process should be immediate and the accused should have a right to be heard immediately and if a decision is made they are not a threat; their guns returned. People think they can lie to cops and get away with it. (Many don’t understand filing a false Police report is a crime; usually a felony.) They are less likely to lie under oath, and more of the story can be heard when the accused is allowed to testify and ask questions of their accusers. I have zero tolerance for someone that threatens another person. And when that happens; they lose their guns. But that is what happens now and in many cases when the accusers don’t show up for a hearing or the court determines there is no real threat; the accused have a hard time getting their guns back, if they ever do. That isn’t right.1 point

Well I finally got the word from my landlord and he wants me to move by June so he can renovate this cottage I live in. He said he will be done with the other 2 units and ready to begin working on this one. At least he is giving me a fair amount of time to move. I have never heard of a property Landlord actually moving people out of rented places so he can remodel them. Normally they wait till they are empty and then remodel them. I have lived here 19 years and never been a day late on rent and seldom ask him to fix anything except the central AC/heat unit. I fix small things rather that bother him but evidently none of that matters to him so I will be gone from here by June. Moving out in the country into a small cottage that my SIL and daughter own that is located behind their house about 50 yards. I will probably like it out there but hate the hassle of moving. Oh well at least I will be able to do some shooting out there. They own about 10 acres with a steep hill on one side that I should be able to set up a small range on. If I dissappear from the site for a while I will be back here soon as I get set back up........1 point

Just another chapter in the book of life closing and another new chapter beginning. Hope you enjoy the country living and with a shooting range you can set up, no excuses not to shoot more. Moving is always a hassle maybe time to downsize some of the things you don't use anymore. Best of luck.1 point

It should be mentioned that once you start shooting a 1911, you will likely become addicted to them. Often the result is a safe shelf filled with different calibers and sizes of the 1911. You should probably look for a full size model. It gives me pain to say it but a 9 mm is less expensive to shoot than a 45 acp or 10 mm. Colt, Rock Island, Kimber, Ruger, Dan Wesson are well built, accurate pistols. However Springfield Armory is an excellent choice due to models available and excellent customer service/warranty should they be needed. There are few bad choices in the 1911. I have several other pistols but none is more enjoyable or dependable than a good 1911.1 point

Perhaps a Springfield Range Officer. There are several offerings in the family in both .45 and 9mm. Usually around $800 or less for the basic model. https://www.springfield-armory.com/products/1911-range-officer-45-acp/ https://www.springfield-armory.com/products/1911-range-officer-9mm/#PI9129L1 point

Prexactly. That’s what I’ve been saying when all these issues are being argued about signs, etc. Or someone posts that we need a law like… (fill in with the name of some state that isn’t Constitutional Carry) But it is usually explained to me that we need to take “Baby steps”. Our Baby Step time is over and we don’t need to copy some other states law; we just need Constitutional Carry. Our state legislators just don’t want to acknowledge a right to bear arms. My guess is that is because of the tourist and convention business. Nashville makes a lot of money off conventions.1 point

Sorry to hear you gotta get out but, I got a feeling you'll like it better where you're going. I know what you mean about moving. We moved about 3 years ago. I hated it so much...…..1 point

If what will become the enhanced carry permit does not reduce carry restrictions (legal school carry, removing no gun sign weapons crime), then having two handgun carry permits is a total waste in my opinion. This is nothing but a joke for the legislators to look like they are doing something pro gun but in reality not do anything pro gun that actually gives people more carry rights. If the NRA is behind this VS spending time on cutting handgun carry permit location restrictions and Constitutional carry, I'm disappointed.1 point

Here, I fixed it for you. That's coming from an active lifetime member of the NRA. As someone else mentioned, the SAF is also a much better org to join than the NRA. Unfortunately, the NRA in action only really defends hunting and basic self-defense. They cover modern rifles (AR-15's and any other modern, plastic gun) and take ads in American Rifleman, but I've seen very little practical defense from them in the last 8 years. The same goes for supporting carrying laws. They seem to support more terrible carry laws in TN that don't restore our rights than actually using their might to get things like constitutional carry, or public school carry.1 point

I have the 16” LMT MWS LM8. The monolithic rail is solid and “tank like”. But it is heavy. I changed the barrel out to LMT’s slimmer profile barrel to shed a few ounces. The build quality is outstanding. Never skips a beat. The ambidextrous controls are nicely done. Most folks agree that it is a bit over gassed. But has been used in the sand box by a couple of militaries so LMT seems to have intentionally set it up like that to assure a wide range of ammo reliability. Unlikely to ever sell it but they hold their value well if ever need to sell.1 point

Nothing. You can be a suspicious person that the Police check out with or without a gun. I don’t see where carrying a gun would have much impact unless some other law was being violated or you are a prohibited person. Whether or not you have to ID depends on the laws of the state you are in.1 point
-
No other state that has Constitutional Carry did away with carry permits. I guess Tennessee could be the first; but I doubt it.1 point

These are the teachers in schools now. Some of my teachers were WWII veterans, probably would be a different out come if some hapless idiot had tried shooting up a school with the old vets there. Remember these teachers don't belong to gun and shooting forums either. Snowflakes always melt when the temperature goes up. Maybe the presenters of the training were on a power trip.1 point
-
Agree 100%...if the training was for the teachers. This...I don't know about. If the training for was LEO to train response tactics to an active shooter event...shooting the teachers by the "shooters" accomplished nothing but giving someone their jollies. If the training was for the teachers themselves...and if they teachers signed paperwork acknowledging what could happen...I have lesser and lesser a problem for it.1 point

Two different discussions here.... 1. Close distance sims rounds hurt. I've done a fair amount of work in the 0-5 foot distance envelope with both airsoft and sims and have been shot with them at contact distance numerous times. It is not fun. But the object of the exercise was not to have fun it was to work on surviving close distance lethal force problems. Should the teachers have been shot with sims rounds ? I can make an argument for it and against it. 2. As to it causing them PTSD? You know part of the problem is that you have liberal teachers and school administrators who have never been in a fist fight trying to have a say in how to STOP KILLERS. "Conflict resolution" only works if there is a "conflict" that can be mediated....an active shooter is not there to negotiate or come to a settlement...he is there to kill. Victory for him is not getting a concession from the other side...it is stacking up corpses. So it might not be a bad idea for those teachers and administrators to be exposed (in a training environment where they will not be actually killed for real) to this level of violence so they will get their minds right as what REALLY will limit body counts in a school shooting event. Capitulation and negotiation and "feeling the misunderstood youth's pain" is not going to stop someone whose goal is to stack up corpses. Only an overwhelming application of lawful moral lethal violence will.1 point

Let me introduce you to The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF). I think they've done more for the 2nd Amendment in the courts over the last ten (10) or twelve (12) years. The NRA has focused more on the legislative side. https://www.saf.org/ I am a member of NRA and SAF.1 point

Is that asking 1k with the hopes of getting 1k or 850-900 ?. That's where I think someone would like you to end up. I did a quick looksee and If It were me 850 to 900 would be a good deal in the current gun climate for the package. I just saw a 1200 round spam of steel case 7.62 sell for 200 and there are several ras regular wood models that have set on local sites for 650. Just my input but good luck on adding another Kimber either way1 point

100% agreed. The legislature should be striving to simplify, not complicate.1 point

If this passes, it will cause lose of reciprocity with other states, due to the decreased training requirement. And I'm against it because of this. If the legislature wants to do something, pass constitutional carry.1 point

Since law enforcement can already take guns without due process; I support some of these bills that lay out specifics for due process. I also support seizing guns and putting anyone in jail that threatens other people with violence. As a matter of fact those people belong in prison and would come out as convicted felons. Then any discussion about guns rights is moot. Does that make me a RINO?1 point

Just because they have an R in front of their chosen party doesn't mean he/she doesn't think like they do about some things and it's evident this is one of those people and things!! I say if you give the gun grabbers an inch and they will take the whole state. Red Flag Laws are not meant to work with gun owners but just to get your guns any way they can and it will be our own fault if we don't do everything we can to stop them from writing laws that benefits only them..........JMO1 point
