Just in case anyone needs to know. When you have a record expunged in Tennessee, the state MAILS the orders to TBI and they have up to 60 days to remove it. The mailing process is slow, as we found out. My husband called them on Wednesday to ask how long and was told that if the state had FAXED it, it would have been removed in hours. He told them he had a copy of the orders and could he fax and was told yes. He faxed them at 4:15pm with a cover sheet with his name and phone number. Then on Thursday morning he got a call at 8:15am and was informed that they got the fax and removed it. He asked about the FBI and was told they removed it the same day the state does! We wasn't sure, so he decided to wait 24 hours. Friday morning, he went to Academy Sports, picked out a Glock g43x and submitted the paperwork for the nics check. 15 minutes later he legally purchased his first handgun and skipped off out of the store grinning from ear to ear! Once in the truck, he scheduled his ccw class for this morning. Needless to say, after having a felony since he was 20 years old, 30 years later and he is no longer a felon. Thank you all for your interest and feedback. I hope this helps anyone in the same situation. The attorney we used is Daniel Horwitz in Nashville. Highly recommended.8 points

He is still out there. He has been working on his car a bit lately. I will let him know he is missed.6 points

Perhaps a Springfield Range Officer. There are several offerings in the family in both .45 and 9mm. Usually around $800 or less for the basic model. https://www.springfield-armory.com/products/1911-range-officer-45-acp/ https://www.springfield-armory.com/products/1911-range-officer-9mm/#PI9129L4 points

Springfield has a lot of good options, a was mentioned. I'd also encourage you to check out Rock Island Armory and Citadel, and spend the balance of your budget either on customization (after you've shot it enough to know what you want to change, and why) or on ammo. Feeding a 9mm is generally cheaper than a .45acp and the power to weight ratio makes shooting a steel 9mm very pleasant.3 points

That is the reason for doing it. But the laws and procedures vary by state and sometimes even by County. Some places purge the records from “their” system. Some places simply “seal” them. So it depends on who is doing the background check and why. Most places that have a big concern about it don’t ask if you have been convicted of a crime, they ask if you have ever been arrested, then ask you to list them and give the disposition. I was arrested in Illinois for having a gun in my car. The case was dismissed; I wasn’t convicted. I never had a problem until years later when I came to Tennessee. TBI told me an arrest was showing but said they couldn’t tell me what it was. The ATF told me what it was and how to get it removed. I jumped through the hoops and got it done. But they told me to hang onto the documentation as it could show up again. An expungement will work for some stuff, but is not a guarantee something won’t show up.2 points

Well I finally got the word from my landlord and he wants me to move by June so he can renovate this cottage I live in. He said he will be done with the other 2 units and ready to begin working on this one. At least he is giving me a fair amount of time to move. I have never heard of a property Landlord actually moving people out of rented places so he can remodel them. Normally they wait till they are empty and then remodel them. I have lived here 19 years and never been a day late on rent and seldom ask him to fix anything except the central AC/heat unit. I fix small things rather that bother him but evidently none of that matters to him so I will be gone from here by June. Moving out in the country into a small cottage that my SIL and daughter own that is located behind their house about 50 yards. I will probably like it out there but hate the hassle of moving. Oh well at least I will be able to do some shooting out there. They own about 10 acres with a steep hill on one side that I should be able to set up a small range on. If I dissappear from the site for a while I will be back here soon as I get set back up........1 point

Another vote for the Springfield Range Officer. The absolute best bang for the buck that meets your criteria. First 1911 should Must be a .45acp. Anything less is depriving yourself of the true 1911 experience.1 point

If you live in Tennessee and want to carry it’s kind of expected for you to get one.1 point

I am glad I didn't do anything rash. I rented the Micro 9 this afternoon. It kept dropping the mag and failing to feed every other round. I did ~15 rounds and took it back to the counter. I keep trading off my AKMs and then regretting it.1 point

Ruger 1911 and I have had very good luck with a Rock Island Armory in 9mm. None have adjustable sights but I have found I do not need them.1 point

Lots of ideas. You can cry once, if you have ~ $300, and get a really solid (10 guage) steel table. Google it to find at Uline, Grainger, etc.1 point

And here it is, in all it's glory! Will shoot it the afternoon, first impressions? The slider is like silk and the grip just feels awesome. They did a good job with this firearm and I am totally a SIG fan boy now. So much so that I want to swap my PPQ (which is outstanding) for a 9mm or .45 Sig. Amazing how the right customer experiencing can change your outlook!1 point

Exactly as @DaveTN states. Which is why if Tennessee were to ever surprise us and gain constitutional carry, I'd personally prefer that alongside it there was some permitting process to keep reciprocity with other states. I personally think it'd suck to gain constitutional carry but lose all of your reciprocity. But...seeing how legislation in Tennessee has been, I'll roll over in my grave (because I'll have been dead a long time) if they ever pass constitutional carry.1 point

Let me introduce you to The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF). I think they've done more for the 2nd Amendment in the courts over the last ten (10) or twelve (12) years. The NRA has focused more on the legislative side. https://www.saf.org/ I am a member of NRA and SAF.1 point

A Dog thread!! Good for you and good luck with your new best friend! I had a Doberman for 13 years that passed 5 years ago. I didn’t think I wanted to go through that loss again; but about a year ago we got another. Mine are house dogs and I missed that security. But I would never have a dog trained to bite (too much liability); dealing with intruders is my job. His job is to let me know something is going on that needs my attention. House breaking him shouldn’t be hard, just take him out all the time. Teaching him not to eat the pillows might be harder. Harley Max And here is 20 reasons some people may never want a Doberman.... https://www.pawmygosh.co/20-reasons-dobermans/1 point

Our attorney confirmed that his felony has been completely expunged, and locally there are no records of it. He said it will take about 120 days until it makes it from the state level to federal. Just in case anyone else needs to know in the future. Of course your milage may vary. Thanks1 point

Your not going to get correct answer here. I have been asked this same question by a couple people I have worked with and found a legal mess in this case. I have sent them to John Harris,Nashville Firearms Attorney. The questions l had run into are Can an ex felon ever purchase or possess a gun in Tn with expungement or pardon? Can they be in home or auto if someone else has a firearm. The info on Felon is probably stuck in the pipeline and is this person going to be charged with trying to purchase a firearm. I have lost touch with folks I refered to attorney and do not know if the pursued it. All I can say is contact a attorney that deals in this matter. I have bee told Florida just started allowing it on a case by case basis. Good Luck and let us know outcome.1 point

Yep. I had my Passport and my wife had hers but it had expired a week or so before we went in and they would no accept it. She had to go back the next day with her birth certificate. We couldn't understand why they would not take a just expired Passport since she had went through the checks to get it in the first place. I don't know if they issue a different license if you are not a citizen but are legally in the country.0 points

Elections have consequences........ The days of "they really aren't going to try to ban that" are over.....too many socialist/communist/ statists have been elected to office in that party to the point that now in 2019 Nancy Pelosi (the historic left wing standard bearer) seems more like a moderate democrat (or liberal republican) than a liberal democrat now compared to how far left many in her party are rushing. They DO mean what they say... they ARE absolutely opposed to the 2A and they WILL ban everything they can the next time they control all 3 branches. I fear we have come to the proverbial end of the line. The gloves are off and they don't care who knows what they really think. At this point if you believe in the 2nd Amendment and support it then an entire political party's leadership has become militantly opposed to you and your way of life. Vote accordingly if that is important to you.0 points
