REMOVE the penalty for carrying past signage ! Signs protect NO ONE. And an otherwise law abiding person should not be able to be prosecuted for committing the "crime" of refusing to be helpless.3 points

The bill changed the name of the current handgun carry permit to an enhanced handgun carry permit BUT does not add any enhancements to it as in less off limits locations such as school property and the no gun sign weapons crime. The bill then adds a concealed only permit that requires less training. You still have to get a background check and fingerprinting, but hunter's education or a web based gun safety class could be sufficient training for this new permit. The new permit will be offered by the state at a reduced cost. I personally do not see the point in the NRA or any pro gun group spending the time on this bill if there are not going to be reduced gun free areas, such as school property, for the current handgun carry permit = enhanced carry permit that requires live fire training. Is it really that difficult for the NRA to get behind a decent pro gun bill in TN so that people with permits can legally carry in more places? Every state bordering TN has legalized college carry except North Carolina. In some of those states it is also legal to carry in K-12 schools.2 points

I'm afraid the system is far from perfect. Maybe the info will be changed and everything will go smoothly. Most likely the first time he will get denied and have to appeal. But that's no guarantee that it will be clear sailing for any future purchases. The people responsible for these things don't always change their data base to reflect the change in your husband's status. Its entirely possible he may be delayed or denied and have to appeal on every gun purchase he ever makes. The thing is you'll never know until you try. He's an example: a friend of mine would get delayed on every gun purchase he ever tried to make because the initial search showed he had a police record. He was a retired Police Officer! Good luck. Hopefully you won't have any problems.2 points

Methinks he's in for a hard row to hoe with this. I recommend he NOT try to buy a gun yet, until he's 100% positive it is legal. Expungement doesnt necessarily do it. He could be charged with a crime for trying. This document may help, or not: https://www.tn.gov/content/dam/tn/attorneygeneral/documents/ops/2015/op15-75.pdf Will's recommendation, above, to get a lawyer, is sound advice, and GET ONE THAT KNOWS THIS STUFF, NOT JUST ANY LAWYER.1 point

I would., unless the two are identical. My money says they won't be. Now, when it comes to pimping, the Glock may be your better platform, just because of the wide range of parts. Not a Glock fan speaking here either. I loved my M&P. I understand why anybody else would too.1 point

All my Glocks are bone stock except for a lighter connector here and there. Got no objection to building one up if that's what you want. The Glock is kinda getting to be the Ruger 10-22 of the pistol world. My Glocks are all stock, but my 10-22 just about doesn't have any ruger parts.1 point

Is that a bug or a feature? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Seriously tho, get your gear fixed before the folks at Burn All Toddlers First try and hem you up for loaning a rifle that ends up malfunctioning to a friend and call it “transferring an unlicensed machine gun.”1 point

Sounds like the perfect nuance for law enforcement to have to balance when dealing with the gun carrying public.1 point

Exactly! Make it more simple not more complex.1 point

Amen. Make it a TRULY enhanced permit and make it so that it overrides signage , etc and they will have to hire extra people to process all the applications....1 point

So what will you do now? Serious question here. I cannot say I'm real impressed with the way this has gone for you. I had given a little thought to buying one. I liked the feel of the Spectrum, but your results may top the interest I had for it.1 point

If they were to lump schools and/or signage into the group, you'd see a rush of a lot of people looking to upgrade, qualify, etc.1 point

A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercise, I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks. - Thomas Jefferson 1785 Aug. 19 Letter to Peter Carr1 point

My every day cleaner is G96 1054 Gun Oil I have used it for years. Use to be able to buy most everywhere now I have to get it from Amazon. Don't know about the synthetic.1 point

I don't know. You have the crowd than thinks folks need a little "training" to carry a gun in public. Then you have the folks that have a hard time affording the current HCP. I think they are really trying to cover that gap.. I haven't paid enough attention to know if they're on the right track.. I like what they did in Ky, even though my family members are all keeping their permits so they can travel. Same with me. I will always keep the permit that allows me to carry in the most places. Before the permits came along, I carried when I thought I had to for my safety. I like the law and all that, but ain't gonna die for a stupid one.1 point

It’s going to take a while for the expungement to work it’s way through the system(s)...if it ever does. Believe it or not all LEO systems are not interconnected, far from it actually. Expect to be denied, then appeal with the paperwork.1 point

A background check is usually instant. Legally, I think he could purchase a gun as soon as his record has been expunged, but as you know, this is the government you are dealing with. I wouldn't have a clue what problems you could expect or how to get them corrected. Hopefully there won't be any. I'm sure someone will be along shortly with a lot more insight and experience with this type thing. Welcome to the forum! Don't be a stranger.1 point

Established meaning on the forums, not legally. I have no feedback or buddies from the board to vouch for me. I have my TN license, a house, a job, and a TN carry permit. My point was that most of my trading buddies in AZ all knew me from matches or previous dealings. I was more “established” on the forums.1 point

"One bleeding-heart type asked me in a recent interview if I did not agree that 'violence begets violence.' I told him that it is my earnest endeavor to see that it does.
