  1. Bit of a change to my technique as described before. I seared first, then a "low and slow" approach (oven set to 170° until internal temp was 138°). It worked well as you can see.

  2. Here's one of mine. Used birch plywood with a clear poly finish, and plastic T mold on the edge. Crappy pic...

  3. Not what you asked exactly. But, I built a couple of these. Pair it with a cheap drum throne and you are portable AND stable. Cheap too. 34 inches BTW

  5. With a permit from TWRA all bets are off. The rules are clearly stated on the permit. We hunt deer at night with suppressed rifles equipped with thermal and night vision. We can keep the meat but not any horns. Any bucks shot and the game warden has to be called so he can collect the horns. I've been on permits where the horns must be cut off and left in the field. It's up to the TWRA agent that issues the permit. You have to prove the animal in question is doing damage. If coyotes are killing chickens and you get a permit, it's any means necessary. You are also liable for everything you do. Kill someone's dog and you're toast.

  6. Just a point of information, Sportsman's covers the trout stamp. It does not cover the duck stamp.

  7. I am not sure Turkey ever come into the "vermin/nuisance" category. I would definitely want clarification on that point. Also, I don't think it is ever ok to shoot small game with a centerfire weapon, i.e. squirrel with an AR. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal, but if yo ran into the wrong TWRA agent on the wrong day you would be in the wrong. The regulations on "Means and methods" can be a bit confusing in the small game/fur bearer section. That is the difference you have to understand, small game vs. fur bearer.

  8. What distance did you zero at? those are good groups. I have been wanting a 6.5 for a long time, it's just not practical where I live, shoot and hunt. We can go out to about 400yrds at the range I get to use but that is about it. I just about have myself talked into the Swagger, even if I have to sell another gun to fund it lol. I like to sit up and shoot, and the longer one just looks perfect. I also like the looks of these https://swaggerbipods.com/products/stalker-lite How well does the can help? Does 6.5 suppress as well as something like .308?

  9. Look between it and the guys. It looks like a stretcher built out of poles.

  10. I am sure they told you but turkeys are considered the same as deer in TN, ie. big game. Not only do you have to have a fishing/small game license but you also have to have a big game turkey license. You can also get a Sportsman License which covers everything except trout. I would not recommend shooting turkeys out of season or with a rifle. They are bow/shotgun only.

  12. Sold the wife's 15-22 a couple of weeks ago, (with her blessing), and ordered this ... https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-16-22-lr-1-16-nitride-2a-armament-13-5-m-lok-upper-with-bcg-ch.html So far, it has functioned without flaw, and consistently hits where you point it using CCI MiniMag 36gr HP. Probably have +/- 200 rounds thru it. Very pleased.

  14. The land owner needs a permit from TWRA for game animals if they need to be shot out of season. They have to be causing damage. They also need a permit for predators at night. Again, they have to be causing damage. You can be put on the permit.

  15. Had a great time shooting today!! Got the Savage dialed in. Then we moved to the 1,035 yard range before it got dark. Spotter walked my shots up to within a foot of the gong and I ran out of the ammo that I’d zeroed with (Sig Sauer 140 grain OTM) Tried five more shots with some Hornady Black but light was low and couldn’t get it done. Had so much fun though! Mounted the Area 419 Hellfire Brake this evening even though it will probably rarely get used. But the lockup design is amazing and I’m so glad to have it now. These are groups from the Sig ammo, I’m happy for this to be an off the shelf rifle, no break in at all, and especially for ammo that cost $22-$24 per box. I will load my own once I get the dies but for off the shelf ammo I’m happy.

  19. I think you just need the tax ID number. I am not aware of anyone being audited on the basis of showing a profit, although the requirement is technically law. Sell a few liogs off the property or charge someone a modest fee to cut hay from it. I can't remember off the top of my head whether it's once every three or five years you are supposed to show a profit.

  20. You may be right... On the other hand the 1984 Olympics were held in Sarajevo Yugoslavia.... and 8 years later it was a country engulfed in civil war. No one in 1990 saw that coming either....

  21. At some point a million armed citizens simply say "No".... I'm just not sure what that breaking point actually is.....We have seen it on this continent in the not too distant past but that was when every day life was not nearly as comfortable. But being used to the comfort thing though convinces people to accept what their ancestors probably would not accept....

  22. The guy who cares little and knows even less about actual US military weapons would not be interested in these to begin with. The average gun buyer would rather have a nice shiny new Kimber or Ruger 1911 than one of the CMP military 1911s and that is fine. To each his own. NO one who is buying these guns is expecting a museum piece. They all know they are US Property 1911A1s or 1911s upgraded to A1 spec that likely have seen service and were arsenal rebuilt at some point . They probably also know that some of the frames will be 80, 90,or even 100 years old at this point....the YOUNGEST ones will be 75 years old because 1944 was the last time the US military ordered 1911A1 pistols other than some tiny batches for the Marines. They also know that as they were rebuilt the armorers at the arsenals used parts from the parts bin with little care or inclination to try to match manufacturers so many will be "mixmasters" like a Colt frame and an Ithica slide. Having said that I have seen some that are matching frames and slides, so some buyers might get lucky in that regard. It will most likely have been refinished in the 1980s and now be a dull gray parkerized finish. It MIGHT have a matching upper and lower but it is just as likely to not. THAT is how REAL military 1911/1911A1s were after being turned back in after WWII. And THAT is what the people buying these are buying them for. To have a REAL US Govt Property 1911A1 that most likely went to Europe or the Pacific , to Korea or Vietnam and was reworked afterwards in case things ever got hot with the USSR. Is it the ideal carry gun? No. But I doubt ANYONE is ordering one to carry it. There are far more logical choices that are cheaper and easier to get at your local gun store for that purpose...but those guns are not US Property 1911s and to the people ordering these guns that is far more important.

  23. I'm not at all worried about a nuclear war with Russia, nor China. I worry about Iran because their theocracy believes Allah will preserve them. Those are the kind of people that you should be worried about.
