The guy who cares little and knows even less about actual US military weapons would not be interested in these to begin with. The average gun buyer would rather have a nice shiny new Kimber or Ruger 1911 than one of the CMP military 1911s and that is fine. To each his own. NO one who is buying these guns is expecting a museum piece. They all know they are US Property 1911A1s or 1911s upgraded to A1 spec that likely have seen service and were arsenal rebuilt at some point . They probably also know that some of the frames will be 80, 90,or even 100 years old at this point....the YOUNGEST ones will be 75 years old because 1944 was the last time the US military ordered 1911A1 pistols other than some tiny batches for the Marines. They also know that as they were rebuilt the armorers at the arsenals used parts from the parts bin with little care or inclination to try to match manufacturers so many will be "mixmasters" like a Colt frame and an Ithica slide. Having said that I have seen some that are matching frames and slides, so some buyers might get lucky in that regard. It will most likely have been refinished in the 1980s and now be a dull gray parkerized finish. It MIGHT have a matching upper and lower but it is just as likely to not. THAT is how REAL military 1911/1911A1s were after being turned back in after WWII. And THAT is what the people buying these are buying them for. To have a REAL US Govt Property 1911A1 that most likely went to Europe or the Pacific , to Korea or Vietnam and was reworked afterwards in case things ever got hot with the USSR. Is it the ideal carry gun? No. But I doubt ANYONE is ordering one to carry it. There are far more logical choices that are cheaper and easier to get at your local gun store for that purpose...but those guns are not US Property 1911s and to the people ordering these guns that is far more important.3 points

They're all frankenguns! These are standard issue G.I. pistols that would be found in any soldier's holster or company arms room from 1911 to the present. All have been arsenal reworked at least once. These are the real deal and just what many of us actually carried. That is exactly what CMP has been saying right from the start. Where do people come up with this frankengun as an insult stuff? Do any of you really expect to find all matching pistols just like factory new? I promise you, IF there are any in there, those will be auctioned off for many thousands of dollars. You don't see anybody griping about M1 Garands or Carbines that aren't all matching. Because nobody expects them to be perfect. They are "as issued". That's what CMP sells. Why do people insist on whining about these pistols? $1050 for a Service grade, standard issue 1911A1 is a very fair price. You want a nice, shiny, brand new 1911 for less money? Fine! There's plenty of them out there. Take your pick. Those of us who have filed paperwork with CMP are buying a piece of history. If that ain't your cup of tea, well ok then. Why do those who don't "get it" feel so obligated to put them down? Just shut up already! Sheesh!2 points

I have seen plenty of them already now.I am glad I did not sign up to own a frankengun2 points

But the price we'd pay would be extremely high, maybe even extinction of our country. Not sure I'm ready topay such a price to have peace throughout the world. I or my children wouldn't get to enjoy it.2 points

I'm not at all worried about a nuclear war with Russia, nor China. I worry about Iran because their theocracy believes Allah will preserve them. Those are the kind of people that you should be worried about.2 points

Well, if it ever got to the senate floor you can bet at least 44 dem's would probably vote for it, after all 44 of them voted to kill babies born alive. I hope a bill like this never reaches a presidents desk. I'm sure I'd prefer President Trump to be there versus hilda, biden or any other dem. JMHO.2 points

Pretty much all the inexpensive scan tools are about the same. If they will read the codes and clear them, that's all the average owner needs. I've got an older C-Reader that I bought cheap at a NAPA clearance sale about 10 years ago that still works just fine for my needs. Bear in mind that knowing the code is only half the problem. It will just give you a general idea of where to look for the problem. Sometimes its a lot more complex than you think.1 point

I started reading the House judiciary’s amendment version of the bill today. It is full of citations from overwhelmingly anti-gun organizations and media outlets, not to mention a bullet list of all the notorious mass shooting of the last decade or so in which a background check was done or would not have mattered. God help us all when the Dems take total control in two to four years.1 point

Most modern emissions testing places have advanced enough equipment to see if you’ve just cleared he codes. You’re supposed to complete a full drive cycle before they’ll pass you - at least in Nashville. I’m not sure that Greg is in a county that needs it for emissions. They’re helpful for general repair work, though. Here’s a similar one to the one I got recently: https://www.amazon.com/OBD2-OBDII-Bluetooth-Diagnostic-Scanner/dp/B01HXGX8V6/ref=asc_df_B01HXGX8V6/?tag=&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312177448019&hvpos=1o7&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17061142339596273251&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9013192&hvtargid=pla-570352764845&psc=1&ref=&adgrpid=61495038909&th=11 point

They will read them for free. They don't, or at least are not supposed to, clear them for you.1 point

I needed one right away, so I picked this one up at Advance Auto Parts. It would read the code and clear it; that’s all I needed it to do. https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/actron-pocket-scan-code-reader-cp9125-c/9020005-P?searchTerm=Actron+Pocket+Scan+Code+Reader Or you can order it off Amazon for $40.1 point

If I was buying something today I would also look at one to connect to a phone app, as they (at least the couple I looked at briefly last year) offer a whole lot more information and can even record some performance data to your phone for review. I have this one from Amazon, bought it years ago and have used it a handful of times. Autel AutoLink AL319 OBD2 Scanner Automotive Engine Fault Code Reader CAN Scan Tool1 point

I've got a hand-held one from Amazon. It was about $30. I just read the reviews and picked one I liked. I think it's this one... https://www.amazon.com/ANCEL-AD310-Enhanced-Universal-Diagnostic/dp/B01G5EA74I/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=obdii+scanner&qid=1551207394&s=gateway&sr=8-3 The phone app versions are pretty neat.1 point

I thought at one time, under one of the SALT Treaties, we had mutually assured and verified, that neither side was targeting the other. Obviously, that could probably change in a matter of a few minutes. The Russian Governement controls the media. Had Putin not wanted this subject to be aired, it wouldn't have. I suspect that the Russians are fearful we are about to interfer with one of their allies in South America, so Putin is doing a little sabre rattling, in the reference of another "Cuban Missile Crisis".1 point

I'll admit I'm not an authoritative source on the issue, but theoretically does the concept of hypersonic missiles change the concept of MAD? If you could hit hard enough and fast enough, the destruction may be mostly one sided. However, "hard enough and fast enough" is a gamble no sane person would make.1 point

I have..... Hunter Leggett Reservation in Calif. I was not fortunate enough to get a good shot as these are skiddish till you get one cornered. LOTS of signs and LOTS of open country. Not so much luck. I want to do a Texas or Alabama hunt one day. I leave for a (fenced) hunt at Loshbough in Crossville on Sunday! We go every year. A lot of people don’t care for these types of “ hunts”, but we do it for the comradeship and the pork in the freezer! It’s a good outfit by the way.1 point

The issue is that you would then HAVE to challenge them. No one is kicking anyone's pet goldfish . I'm merely stating WHY those attorney types who do this kind of thing for a living say that it CAN (not ALWAYS WILL , but CAN) be an issue they would have to answer in a civil case. They are not saying NEVER DO IT...they are saying it is a real thing that may well be argued by opposing council and you should be aware and make your own informed decisions. To be forewarned is to be forearmed. Be aware of the likely arguments and have a counter to them. It is all about how you articulate it..... If you want to use a flamethrower you are welcome to do it .....and in a "good shoot" the use of the flamethrower might not even matter ...but even if you don't get arrested and charged for the good shooting you might still get sued civilly and have to answer why you used a flamethrower. There is immunity from civil suit in TN but if you travel out of state and shoot someone that immunity does not travel with you. You are held to the laws of the state where the shooting occurs and even a good shoot can still lead to a civil case for injury or wrongful death if the other guy is never charged with (or convicted) of a crime. And as to use of a FACTORY +p loadings I already have the answer to any nitwit opposing council who would even be stupid enough to bring that up (that is assuming that line of questioning didn't already get quashed "in limine") ..... again to be forewarned is to be forearmed.1 point
-
It is not the initial criminal case that they are warning about on the reloads so much as it is in case of a civil action wrongful death case. That is where the "he is so depraved that he felt factory ammo wasn't deadly enough" arguments normally come into play. The argument can be answered but if you use factory ammo it would never even possibly have to be answered.1 point

A coworker was mentioning this to me the other day, about a week ago. I do think this will very nearly if not completely cause Benchmade to go kaput. However, I do have two thoughts that I'm trying to wrap my head around: As a private company, as local PD approaches you and offers you money to destroy firearms. If you don't accept, someone else will. Perhaps it is $5,000 to $10,000 pure net profit, minus electricity and wear and tear on equipment. In a way, wouldn't you be crazy not to? The mistake was the Social Media posting that alienated 90% or more of their customer base. (Sidenote: I have no idea if Benchmade was paid to do this "service", but I am assuming that they were). Regarding the political donations, could they be construed as attempting to buy support from politicians? You always hear about lobbyists and people trying to "buy politicians", is that what this could be construed as or have they (Benchmade) just been exposed at overall being a very left leaning company?1 point

Most of my time on hogs is in the swamps and bottomlands of South Georgia. I’ve got family down there, so it’s convenient. I’ve been treed by one down there. But, I wasn’t hunting at the time. Me and a friend just happened to be pumping water at a spring when some piglets came out of the underbrush. Mama was not pleased. These days I enjoy chasing them around Black Warrior and a couple other spots in northern Alabama. It’s just closer than Valdosta. I usually run a 45-70 - because that’s what I pretty much shoot everything in the South with these days. But, there’s no telling how many I’ve taken with an old model 94 in 30-30. I’ve taken some with 5.56. I’ve taken one with a 500gr .458 SOCOM round just to see - and it made a real mess. It’s an unpopular opinion these days - but I’ve shot a bunch of pigs that I knew were headed for the freezer in the neck with a .22 WMR. They’re not particularly hard to kill. But, like you I’d hunt hogs 100% of the time over deer or pretty much anything else here in the South.1 point

Miller Man hit the nail on the head. Great class, a "MUST" for anyone with a permit. I would break it down like this: Lee: The law and Criminal Justice system in the context of self-defense. Being retired LE, I was familiar with most of this information and it is something a "layman" should really know, particularly in the context of self-defense. Lee broke it down for us (non-lawyers) and gave his insights based on years of experience. Randy: How to see and avoid most of the "ugliness" that may come your way....... and how to prevail if you can't avoid it. This was not my first class with Randy. Pests eat fast. The shooting instruction is top notch. I like the approach: This is why we do it and how it works. This is how we do it. Now, let's do it, it might save your life. Randy is always top notch. Overall a great day (in spite of the weather) of learning... at a price that can't be beat!1 point

This was a really great class put on by two highly qualified individuals. I think this would be the perfect next step following getting a carry permit for everyone who looks to carry a gun for self defense or even just possibly ever having to use a gun for defense. Hope they can continue to put this class together for lots of people to get a day of very useful info and training. I learned something within the first 2 minutes of Lee starting and picked up tons of useful information to retain throughout his whole class. He does a great job of going over his material - even though sometimes it is lots of legal-ese talk that he is breaking down to lay mans terms (thank goodness for me). I even learned the importance and difference between "can I" and "may I", and more importantly for this class, "must I" . I've been through Randy's flagship class years ago but this was a great compacted refresher for lots that I've forgotten. His - pests eat fast - is very good info and mindset to have ( + KEEP) in your toolbox. Don't know what that is? Get to class and find out. We even had the great fortune of having the monsoon finally break and got to enjoy the range without getting soaked to the bone. Also got to experience shooting drills in quicksand - which is sure to be useful someday. Had a great time and enjoyed spending the day with some great folks.1 point

I have attended several classes with CHL. Quality instruction by someone that has a proven performance track record. Both Randy and Lee are nationally sought after instructors. The only reason I am posting is that this is a bargain for a local, quality program that addresses topics directly related to the armed citizen. As Randy said, if you are wondering whether to attend I can definitely recommend signing up.1 point

A grand for something that isn’t a collectable and isn’t near the quality of todays 1911’s is too much for me. But if you want one; you should get it now. If a Democrat gets elected President you can bet the government won’t be selling handguns to citizens.1 point

Not I. While I need a true GI 1911 my head is slowly starting to take control of my wants. From the pics I’ve seen I simply will not be happy with an 80’s reparked specimen. Plus, I really don’t want to go through the hassle. Good luck to you though. Hope you make the cut and look forward to seeing what you get!1 point
