The only thing I can swear by is a one-piece coated cleaning rod and Hoppe’s #9 with cheapest bronze brushes from WM. Q-Tips are an indispensable must, along with an old toothbrush. Pipe cleaners are very handy as well. One thing I can assure of is every person is probably going to give a different opinion.5 points

Well Ruger has officially ceased production and removed from product listing the SR556 and SR762. The Piston guns are no more. I thought they were great guns, but the proprietary piston/handguard was a killer for them, I think.3 points

Definately hug her a bunch and everyone hug their children every chance you get cause you never know when it might be the last hug. Also make sure you tell all of your family each day that you love them, each and everyone that you talk to. I am very glad your daughters Guardian Angel was riding with her this morning................3 points

Not me. I'm right there with you. I despise jointed cleaning rods. I'd only add some copper solvent and a bottle of oil and you have it pretty much covered. A brush is a brush and a jag is a jag.1 point

It is hard for a local place to compete on this sort of stuff with the big online guys.1 point

We get most of our stuff from either amazon or adafruit.com. If you are not in a hurry but cost conscious then aliexpress.com is the way to go. It is cheap but but you are ordering direct from china so it is slow and the occasional order gets lost or has quality issues.1 point

Yeah us gun junkies like to customize our AR's! Personally im not a piston fan if its not an AK...I much prefer the softer shooting of the DI...the biggest decider for me was when I started shooting my KS47 (palmettos franken AR that takes AK mags) even with its small 7" barrel it shoots way softer then any AK I have ever owned firing the mighty 7.62x39.1 point

Stopped by Aldi today & got 3, mango, chipotle & jalapeno. Trying the jalapeno on a swiss, ham, turkey, hard salami sammich on Italian bread. So far, jalapeno is most excellent.1 point

Try also to let her pick and choose without a bunch of input from you about caliber size, this guns better, etc etc etc. (speaking from experience). A lady at Fugates (where we did our HCP class) in Athens took over and did a great job with my wife. I saw first hand how wrong I had been in trying to "help". If she gets what she likes and is comfortable its amazing how much fun gun time can be together. Now she wants more guns and has branched out. Getting to make her choice (not what I thought was best for her) made all the difference.1 point

WalMart has several inexpensive tool boxes that make fine storage for gun cleaning stuff. I have one and it works great. Stanley I believe it is.1 point

A S&W Mdl 19 is chambered in .357. I agree with Triple GGG and JAmie Jackson. Take her to a range that rents pistols and let her shoot some and pick out what she likes.1 point

I use the fishing lure boxes, they come in a variety of sizes and prices. I purchased a fishing bag which comes with these, I keep all of them in there until I need to use them, one for my black powder weapons, another for standard rifles and guns. https://www.academy.com/shop/browse/outdoors/fishing/tackle-storage/tackle-binders--utility-boxes1 point

I bought my non-1LE ZL1 there. Walked in and they sent me out the door with it as a "test drive for the rest of the day" with the car lol. I knew I was going to buy it already, though.1 point

Palmetto State Armory has dropped the price on the 4" model to $279.99 with free shipping. I might have to get one.1 point

My take on is that it is drilled into folks head that you don’t pull the trigger until you are ready to shoot as one of the 4 primary safety rules. Then Glock turns around and says “forget all that if you wanna clean our gun” and it just sticks in the craw for some folks. My dislike of Glock has nothing to do with disassembly procedures, but that’s my take anyways.1 point

So, I was in the market for a cheap coyote gun when this used Axis popped up. Crappy rattle-can stock, stock trigger (30lb of grit...) & factory Bushnell. Mind you, it was $200 so I'm not complaining & it came with 400 round of 50gn hollowpoints. Picked it up this morning & immediately decided it was too long &, well....normal. 12 o'clock & I get a 1hr lunch break so I figured "*%#$ it". Pulled the stock, removed the mounts & scope, whipped off the barrel, ran to a friend with a lathe, used said lathe to chop it to 16¼", turned a nice 11° crown, ran home, removed the trigger, replaced the stock spring, installed an over travel screw, polished the trigger & sear (3lb pull, zero overtravel. Didn't have time to fix the pre-travel. I'll live with it!), reinstalled it, screwed on the barrel, headspaced it, tightened everything up, scope on, stock on, loaded the mag & zeroed the thing (1½" high at 100yds, ¾"group) & STILL had time for a cheese sammich! Do THAT with your Remchester!1 point

Not saying that we need to go to the mattresses over it, but philosophically, I think gun carry in the state capital is the litmus test. To me, it's the easiest question to see if a politician respects the rights of the people to be armed, or something only to be tolerated at a distance, and behind a wall of security. I have to get permission by the state to carry a pistol outside of my home and vehicle and range time, or else doing so meant I was breaking the law. The state ran a background check on me, and forced me to attend a mandated training program before pronouncing me safe to carry in public. But even with their required system, I still can't carry my weapon in a building that the public pays for, and is there for the purpose of the people's business by the representatives and officials we elect. Really, there is nowhere more symbolic to be able to exercise the rights of the 2nd Amendment than the power halls of the government that amendment ensures we can protect ourselves against. Banning guns from the capital is the ultimate protection of the ruling class from the proletarian, meaning the carry permit is just an appeasement method for whenever they don't have to deal with us. In essence, they've made a giant safe space for themselves, but it's a physical one, not an emotional variant. At best, it's a infringement of liberty...at worst, it's a way to secure a base of power. It's a simple question to me of if the government really believes in the principles of the 2nd Amendment, or just pays lip service to it for votes. We either have an ally on our side or just another person we're negotiating with.1 point
