I've been a member of the NRA for close to 40 years and will continue to be one until the day I die. They are the "big boys" on 2nd Amendment rights and likely always will be. However, I'm not at all happy with the current state of the NRA. They have become too tied up in the political game and they actually want to play it. The 2nd is NOT negotiable and never will be. Political games be damned, fight to win!4 points

Are they boxer or berdan primed? Originally the CCI Blazer was berdan primed to prevent reloading but I have not purchased any in awhile so I don't know about current manufacture. A quick search turned up something on Brian Enos's forum about the subject from a few years ago. Click Here for Link4 points

He didn't need to outrun the dog....he only needed to outrun her. I get sick of people telling me police officers are the only ones who should have guns.3 points

That will be the downfall of the 2A, too many gun owners willing to give away their rights piece by piece. Whether you agree or not with a piece of legislation, ban of certain products, or if you will not be personally affected by it, if it's anti-2A you need to fight it. There is no room for those that want to work for "sensible" gun laws in our ranks. Laws only affect the law abiding, period. Criminals will be able to commit their crimes no matter what laws they break because they are criminals. Laws should be aimed at those who break them, mandatory sentencing, no mental health waivers for those using firearms to commit crimes.3 points

For 2019, Ruger has decided to cease production of the SR family of striker fired pistols. Personally, I think they made a big mistake. I guess they wanted to push the American but I think the SR would have done better if they released it in a "pro" model without the safety.2 points

I didn't want the NRA to endorse a democratic candidate, so try not to construe such intent from my words. Bernie might have been the only palatable option, but that was before he had to tack all positions left, not just his economic theme. Once he crossed that Rubicon, he didn't deserve any endorsement. What I do want, is for the RKBA organizations to not tie themselves to a single party. When they do that, they run the risk of becoming effectively complacent as the politicians they stuck themselves with by default. Republicans have zero incentive to actually do anything on guns, because they know for a single issue voter on the topic, their lack of action is better than the Democrats want of action in the wrong direction...so nothing actually gets better, we just become falsely satisfied with "it could have been worse." Seriously, we had two years of express lane open for whatever could have been passed, with the presumption that a pro-gun court is in place for about a generation, but all we got was agency level work to take away bump stocks. That's like having a savings account with 0.25% interest when inflation is running 3%.2 points

They are not telling you that. They are selling these guns because most people choose comfort over carrying a firearm with adequate capacity. Most people think they will hit with all 6-8 rounds and that guns are death rays. I hear it all the time at the gun bar " If you can't get it done with ( enter small number of rounds ) you don't need to carry a gun", F that. Most of these people don't actually train and shoot 50 rounds a year. Vent off2 points

The democrats completely abandoned the 2nd amendment and most of the Constitution back in the 70's and 80's, so the NRA went with the party that mostly supported the Constitution, Being as we have only two major parties they really had little choice.2 points

Don't believe the aluminum has the ability to expand and contract, like brass does with the violent explosion during firing, as cheap as 9mm brass is I would not spend time reloading it. Just my personal opinion. Aluminum is not very elastic.2 points

It is Willys FC. The FC stands for Forward Control. From the angle and people blocking the sides of the truck I can't tell if it is a FC150 or FC170. The visual difference is bed size/style and wheelbase. The 170 had a 6cyl the 150 a 4cyl and the 170 was rated for heavier loads. I use to own a 170, they are interesting trucks, they predate Ford and Dodge forward control vans by several years. They were introduced 1956-57. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeep_Forward_Control From that angle it does look a lot like a standard Willys Pickup but I think I'm right here is a picture of the one I had.2 points

I don’t think it’s the manufacturers saying that all is needed. I think it’s the market saying to the manufacturers that it’s what they are wanting because it’s what they are buying.2 points

If you didn't have any changes in dependent status? That seems way too high for a refund. Makes me wonder if your employer adjusted how much was withheld after tax reform was passed. I remember my first paycheck was a copy of 2017 from income tax withholding, but once the systems were updated with the new tax changes, I saw the surplus hitting my paychecks. My *all things money* spreadsheet shows I'll get refund of less than $100. After I tally up investment dividends and capital gains, I'll end up owing. That's the way I like it, not giving the government an interest free loan.2 points

The NRA deserves our support. As a matter of fact, if they fail, we don't have a chance. You will never agree with all of their moves and stances. Heck, I never agree with myself a 100% of the time.2 points

https://www.ammoland.com/2019/01/pro-2a-nra-haters-fyi-for-you/#axzz5cPDspQQk This is an interesting article with some valuable background info on the current situation between the NRA and Trump: "And…love Trump or hate him, regardless of anything else he has done, if it were Hillary putting 2, possibly 3 judges on the USSC bench, the 2A would be dead in 10 years. That’s why NRA went all in with him. Not because he was a philosophically pure candidate on all of 2A, but because he was willing to put pro 2A judges on the bench, and because he could win. No one else on our side could, and the alternative—a Hillary presidency—would have been disastrous." The author of the article also offers some useful elaboration in the comments section. Yes, there are some idiotic remarks in the comments section...because it's the comments section. His most valuable point: RKBA organizations and supporters needs to find ways to work together instead of fighting among themselves. The anti-freedom groups are totally willing to collaborate with each other. Worthwhile reading. Cheers, Whisper1 point

FWIW...Last year I sold a complete 22 upper I bought to build a 22AR. The seller told me it functioned reliably only with Black Dog mags.1 point

They recommend Black Dog Machine magazines. I have several Black Dog sonic weld mags that I use with and old Ciener/Atchisson conversion kit and never had an issue. Even in full bullet hose mode.1 point

I've used a drop-in bolt for years with no problem. I can only assume the dedicated uppers would be as good or better. Of course you would have to zero in the sights on the upper. Enjoy your new toy.1 point

I try to get as close to zero as possible each year, but never get very close. I've mailed them a check for a lot of years in a row now. All federal taxes should be confiscated in cash once per year. All federal elections should be held on the same day.1 point

So there I was, reading all the reviews on the new .224 Valkyrie cartridge and thinkin' to myself that it could be a great round to play with. Well, I crawled into Ma's office lookin' as pitiful as I could but she saw right through me (after 46 years of "Wedded Bliss" it ain't easy to sneak anything past that girl!) and asked what I wanted to buy. So after beggin', whinnin', and pleadin' ... er, negotiating ... she allowed me $350 for Christmas and I was off and running! Picked up a Bear Creek complete upper in .224 for a whoppin' $225 (delivered), an Athlon NEOS 4-12x40 scope for $110 (delivered), and pulled an old cantilevered scope mount out of a Junque box. Ta Da, $15 bucks under my limit so I spent $14.99 for a box of ammo! The upper came equipped with BCG and .224 Valkyrie bolt, 22" SS Fluted barrel, SS birdcage, 17" M-Loc free-float forend, low profile gas block and rifle length tube. The scope was half the price of a lot of Wally World Blue Light Specials and yet, after a thorough test procedure, I found it to be extremely accurate, very clear, and frankly, one of the best value-for-the-money scopes I've ever come across (and I have owned scopes from $25 to $2,500). OK, so how does it shoot? Well, I mounted it on my Bushmaster lower, slithered out to my range, bore sighted it and put 3 in the black at 25 yards, turned around and fired three 3 shot groups at 100 yards, 1-1/4", 1-1/2", and 1"! Yee Ha! Moved over to the 200 yard bench and shot 3 groups 2-1/2", 2-1/2", and 3"! The cartridge was designed for the 90gr "long for caliber" bullets (long throat) and the shorter 75gr loads are not noted for accuracy but my results were a lot better than I expected, especially from a new rifle that had not been broken in. I bought some 90gr rounds and as soon as the rain stops I'm going to try them out, I'll post more info when that happens. Cheap guns are so much fun!1 point

That link (Thanks @MP5_Rizzo!) has all the info on this I'd ever need. A gentleman by the name of Guy Neill (once worked for CCI per the thread...around 10 posts into it) offered a detailed explanation as to the "why" you shouldn't do it...obviously you "can" do it. But I wouldn't risk it. One blown handgun in my life was plenty enough. I handload pretty much all of the handgun ammo I shoot and I'll continue to use brass. And like @Raoul and @Grayfox54said, free brass is pretty much just laying on the ground these days. Several years ago Dolomite had a thread or two on improving accuracy and consistency of steel cased 7.62x39 iirc. I believe he mentioned the damage the steel cases could do to your dies. (Great thread btw) I have no idea what damage, if any, the aluminum cases may do...but the reloaded aluminum cases seem to fairly quickly corrode the barrels of some of the folks that were doing it according to the BE thread. I frequently go to the BE forum for suggestions and info when I'm developing a load. There's some helpful and knowledgeable folks there.1 point

After reading my OP I can see how you misunderstood what I meant. I used last years (2017) numbers with the new tax forms and the same withholding. Yes, you're correct. The withholding for 2018 decreased so we would see an increase month to month so the amount I paid in will be less, hence less of a refund. I guess I just should have just said my taxes for 2018 decreased $1360 from 2017 while my income stayed the same. Since I haven't received my 1099s for 2018 I have no idea how much of a refund, if any, I will be getting.1 point

I've seen articles where people have reloaded aluminum cases, but I don't recommend it. The questions already brought up about the metal itself is a primary reason. IIRC some makers use an odd sized primer or Berdan primer just to prevent reloading. If they're trying to prevent reloading it, I'd take the hint. There's literally a ton of good, once fired 9mm brass laying all over just about every shooting range and its free for the taking. There's no need to mess with aluminum cases.1 point

While I too wish the R's would have at least tried to pass some pro-gun legislation, I think it would have been a hard sell to the general public. With all the mass shootings in the news (don-tinfoil now), which many feel is why the news keeps it there, there was no way these politicos would have sent anything pro-gun up for a vote. The best way IMO, is to tack it on to a bill the Dems want, and make them swallow.1 point

I bought a sr9c from a buddy as a favor and then let him buy it back when finances improved. I shouldn't have. I liked it. Sometimes the decisions are less about good guns and more about marketing and profit.1 point

Since all of the Democratic presidential candidates made clear that they wanted more gun control, and since their party platform condemns candidates who accept support from the NRA, exactly which Democratic presidential candidate did you want the NRA to endorse? Seriously -- name the candidate.1 point

Do you really want to have to chisel a stuck aluminum case out of the barrel of your gun? You can probably make it work but with most people not even bothering to pick up their brass at the range why push your luck....1 point
-
Depends on which version of aluminum the cases are made from. Some alloys might be reloadsble, but others likely wouldn't. Since the whole point of aluminum cases is reduced cost, I feel sure the manufacturer isn't going to spend the extra money on higher grade material that would be more amiable to reloading.1 point

Jeff, my old Bushmaster would shoot 2 MOA all day with good factory loads but that just wasn't good enough so I changed the barrel. Got better but still ... so I changed the trigger ... er, the handguard, grip, and stock too ... uumm, the BCG, buffer and spring went by the wayside ... Oh wait, I need to lap the receiver and bed the barrel extension ... uh, how about a new scope ... long story short, you CAN get sub MOA out of an AR but get ready to play PIMP MY RIFLE! If your bone stock AR shoots 2 MOA, it is about as good as it is going to get without spending a bunch of time and money. Have fun and go burn some ammo!1 point
