I'm leaning against mandatory BG checks for private sales. What I would support, is free, voluntary, access to the BG system for those that chose to use it. No paperwork, no records, just a go or no-go. And I'm not willing to give up anything, to get back a right that was taken away, illegally IMO, in the past.3 points

Welcome to TGO and to Tennessee! As for an AR... Quick correction, please: AR's are not assault rifles. Assault rifles are usually capable of burst or full auto firing and are made for the military. The modern sporting rifle called an AR made for the civilian population are actually Armalite rifles, based on the original manufactures name I believe. The ones mentioned in earlier posts or most any other flat top would be a good base to start with, adding optics, sights and other accessories as you decide what you need. Where in England are you from? I lived for several years in Suffolk, courtesy of the USAF. My youngest son has dual US/UK citizenship, and while not ALL countries recognize dual citizenship, of those that do, not with all other countries, Im fairly certain both the US and the UK do, in fact allow dual citizenship with each other.2 points

I figured it was time for me to embrace the future and put a red dot sight on a Glock. I chose my Gen 4 Glock 19 for this and ordered a stripped slide from Suarez International done in their black Melonite treatment with plain black, suppressor-height, front and rear sights. I filled it with a set of stock Gen 4 Glock internals from Big Tex Outdoors, tossed in a Silencerco barrel that I've been sitting on for a while, and topped it off with a Trijicon RM07 6.5MOA red dot sight. It's riding on my Gen 4's frame with an Agency Arms minimalist magwell, a Streamlight TLR-7 light, a Crux Ordnance extended mag release, and a bit of thumb-index stippling done by yours truly with an ice-pick heated up with a BIC lighter. Just kidding. I used a woodburning tool, but I totally could have done that with a hot ice-pick. I may put a different trigger in it. I'm not sure. I am one of those weirdos who likes the OEM Glock Gen 4 trigger, but the trigger on my Gen 5 is just so damn nice that it has me thinking about an Agency or Apex trigger on this. We'll see.1 point

Hi everybody. I have recelcntly moved to TN from the communist state of NJ and although I have only been here for 3 months I absolutely love it. What a great State you have! I am a Brit and have been living in the US for 6 years now. While leaving in England I used to live breath and sleep hunting. I had a Landrover Defender in Military Green and that was my shooting wagon. I performed vermin control for many fruit farmers and controlled mainly rabbits and foxes. Back in those days I used a 17HMR a few high powered Air Rifles and a couple of shotguns. I moved to NJ 6 years ago and had high aspirations of being able to hunt, unfortunately due to the laws in NJ and NY I really did not get out at all or have the change to use a rifle on anything but the local range. When I got the chance to relocate to TN I chewed my forms arm off, one of the reasons I was so enthusiastic was your hunting and gun laws here. I simply cannot wait to get back into it! I currently own a Savage Heavy Barrelled .243 and a Walter PPQ in 9mm. I have a concealed carry course in a couple of weeks and have just placed an order for an M&P Shield in .380 as a personal protection firearm. My next purchase, maybe this weekend with be an AR-15 or something similar. I will be totally honest with you in that when I first thought of owning an Assault Rifle, and especially in NJ I really thought there was not point. Having educated myself more I do really see the benefit of having such a versital weapon, both from a home protection perspective and hunting. My appreciation of an AR has swung 360 degrees. I will post in the correct forum a little later today but would love to hear some thoughts on the way to go with an Assault rifle, or M4 for hunting and home protection. I’d l;Ike to get something that I can customize. I don’t have great upper body strength so whatever I get must be on the lighter side. I’d love to hook up with any of you that live in my area, I would especially like to shadow you on a hunt, to learn the ropes, the do’s and dont’s Etc. I am very much about safety and common sense first. I am not hear to steal any hunting land from you or to divulge any secret locations, I simply want to learn, make friends and get back into the hunting I enjoyed so much when I lived in England. I’d even consider leasing land if that’s what it takes. So that’s much introduction. I hope I did not bore you to tears!1 point

This would have been great to watch in real time. Cops say a would-be kidnapper chased a woman -- into a karate studio. That was a bad move. https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/04/us/woman-kidnap-karate-studio-charlotte-trnd/index.html1 point

Henry Rifles heard you. https://www.americanhunter.org/articles/2019/1/4/henry-repeating-arms-introduces-long-ranger-in-65-creedmoor-and-american-eagle-rifles/ The company’s Long Ranger lever-action rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor uses a 22-inch blued steel sporter-contoured, free-floated barrel with a 1:8″ twist to get the most accuracy out of the high BC bullet. The American walnut stock sports deep checkering, a soft rubber recoil pad and a steel forestock cap. The rifle utilizes a chromed-steel bolt and a six-lug rotary head, worked via a geared action to provide a solid lockup similar to that of a bolt-action rifle. Other features include a detachable, 4-round box magazine and a drilled and tapped receiver. The Long Ranger in 6.5 Creedmoor has an MSRP of $1,066.1 point

I’m a permanent resident. So I get all the perks apart from the right to vote! At this point I have no intention of becoming a US Citizen as doing so would have Tax implications if we decided to return back to the UK, it would not be the end of the world, but we have not decided if we will go back home. That wont be for at least another 10-15 years. It really depends on what my son does. he is 22 and lives back in NJ.1 point

I love it! The trigger is not the greatest but it smooths out after a few hundred rounds. All in all I am very pleased with my purchase. It has everything that I want right out of the box. Congrats on the Omega 300! I would like to shoot Sunday afternoon at the Armory. You are more than welcome to join if your schedule permits.1 point

Welcome to freedom. There are so many good AR options out there these days that it's hard to go wrong, and you regularly see good deals show up in the classified ads here at TGO. If you want to buy new, the S&W M&P15 Optic Ready is a great starting point, although there are plenty of others. Enjoy life in the American South. It's not heaven, but it's mighty close. Cheers, Whisper1 point

They were an often unrecognized extremely talented band. Incredible musicians imho. I saw them in London in the mid-1970's. They hookwinked the audience by playing as their own opening act as a high-heeled glitter metal rock band ! Then took off the costumes on stage and kicked butt as only Dr Hook and The Medicine Show could do. RESPECT! RIP and Thanks Ray.1 point

The way I look at it the more options I have the better. Something about it I may like that drives me to buy one, if not then I leave it on the shelf. Good competition breeds continuous improvement and lower prices, or at least can. I mean really, who needs a car in a color other than black....1 point

I was just about to type that same thing. I'm afraid that this may be another RP9 flop. Look how bad the review was on Military Arms Channel . He had to send it back and get another one it was so bad.1 point

That wouldn't be good enough for the anti-gun Democrats. It would ever so slightly decrease bad hombres getting guns but not help any with their real goal of disarming honest citizens. It would be nice though for me to have an easy way to see if a person you are selling to is legal to buy. As you say, no serial numbers or make model. Just input buyers name to see if he's a go or no go. I'd even be o.k. if it cost me 5 or so Dollars. And of course it should be Voluntary.1 point

The thing that stinks about this kind of law besides making transfers between friends and family a pita, a secret gun registry and and an expense is.... Lets say you have a situation where your family member/spouse is getting suicidal/ homicidal or just acting crazy suddenly and you want to quickly remove a gun or two from the home. You can't just drop them off at a friends anymore. That would be illegal. What about a gun owner who travels for work or is in the Military and wants to leave guns with a family member? The gun grabbers don't give a crap about that, they just want the public disarmed at any cost. More laws, more hassle and threat of legal problems =less and less people wanting guns every year.1 point

An updated version of a break barrel revolver in 38 special or even .22 Webly based auto ejecting of spent cases preferred. I think India was producing something like this a few years back.1 point

I’m not kidding or making fun. I’m 100% serious. The rumors I’ve heard are that the Glock 44 is going to be a .22. They are rumors and could be totally wrong, but it’s just what I’ve heard.1 point

Background checks are coming; and I doubt there will be much negotiation by anyone. However, I wouldn’t be for allowing trading background checks for a Federal Carry permit. As soon as you take the carry permit process out of the hands of the state and turn it over to the Feds; the Feds will determine where, when, and what you can carry, and what “reasonable restrictions” are on the 2nd amendment. That might be a good thing if you are in NY or CA, but it would suck for us here. Background checks and state gun carry laws don’t have anything to do with each other; I would like to see it stay that way.1 point

I like my handguns similar to the way I like women...just thick enough to grip well. These single stack Glocks are way to skinny for me. But I get it, Glock has to make a product to people without the genetic condition known as "man hands".1 point

Beretta 92 / M9. The barrel stays straight and doesn't tilt and the 9mm round doesn't even have to travel up a "ramp" . IT is designed to just go straight in the chamber. That is why they feed so reliably. My 92/M9 shoots very soft and feeds great !1 point

I'll come at this from a slightly different angle... As Prag mentioned he does not drink or "fiddle with his damn gun either". THAT is most likely the real reason-sober or not- that the gun went off. Modern pistols with drop safeties only go off ONE way and that is for the trigger to be pressed. I would be interested to see exactly WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED to cause this. Needless (and careless) handling of the gun caused by poor carry methods tend to lead tho this sort of thing more times than not. The odds are OVERWHELMING that he did not pull the gun out and intentionally discharge it, It was most likely an accident caused by unsafe carry methods. My guess (and I could be wrong) is that he probably was either carrying without a holster (anyone remember Plaxico Burress shooting himself when his pistol fell down the inside of his pants leg after being "Mexican carried" in his waistband?) or was carrying with a crappy holster and the gun came dislodged somehow. He probably was trying to readjust it and got trigger either wrapped up with finger or clothing and gun then predictably fires. THAT is how they are designed to work. Pull the trigger..... get loud noise. Now before anyone says "yeah but.... he shouldn't have been drinking" that does NOT change the veracity of my point in the least. If he were .10 BAC but not TOUCHING THE GUN it would not go off. Guns do not go off on their own in the presence of alcohol....someone has to be handling the gun and there is no reason to do that in a restaurant ...unless it is no longer secure.... Right now as I sit here sober as a teetotaler typing this the ONLY way my gun in its holster can possibly go off is for me to pull it out of the holster far enough to manipulate the trigger. Alcohol is largely irrelevant if the gun is not handled.....the CARELESS HANDLING caused the discharge...not the presence of alcohol. It may have contributed to the careless handling but alcohol was not the CAUSE of the discharge. So what do we learn from this? Carry it in a REAL professionally designed big boy holster not some cheap garbage that does not prevent the trigger from being manipulated or just stuffed in a pocket or a waistband. Stone cold sober or not there is no reason to carelessly handle the gun in a restaurant . If you are having to handle it because you refuse to buy a real holster and it has come loose from where you are carrying it then stuff like this happens.1 point

How about a battery operated shooting glove that assists in pulling the trigger at 700-970 rounds per minute0 points
