  1. To spend more time talking, texting, and visiting with my father. He's getting up there in years, and the vicissitudes of aging are slowly but surely making their presence felt.

  3. I hate to hear that. There is nothing that is more satisfying for me than to see the initial conflicted smile of a woman who has just realized she is more capable than she previously imagined. It makes it all worth while!

  4. There was a woman killed by her ex boyfriend just last week that had an order of protection against him. I have thought for a long time that women need to get more involved in firearms and self defense. An order of protection is a piece of paper and will not stop a bullet so next best thing as far as I'm concerned is a trained armed woman defending herself and her children...........JMHO

  5. As the female owner of AK Virtual Arms Training LLC Sevierville, TN, I get plenty of women coming to my business who are curious about firearms and firearms training. In our first few months, it has become apparent that many newbies are reluctant to go to a live fire range for their first experience. They may not want to admit it to you. At my laser simulator range, we give the reluctant, nervous and timid a place to start that is warm, comfortable and fun to take their first steps toward being in charge of their own safety. Often times, they have so much fun, they will WANT to go to a live-fire range and start shooting their first live-fire pistol! The future of the 2nd Amendment depends on us bringing NEW shooters into shooting. AK Virtual Arms Training LLC does that very well. In addition to our regular training, we have women's only training and host women's shooting groups through events, parties and fund-raisers. Use one of our gift certificates to give that special woman in your life the gift of confidence and self-defense through one of our classes or events. And maybe, you will get a new shooting partner out of it! PM me if you want more information on our "women's only" courses.

  7. Just a FYI for anyone that finds themself in the situation and have an OP. One can immediately obtain a HCP, valid only in TN for 60days. Time enough to take a class for a reg. HCP in the interim. Just follow 39-17-1365.

  9. Well I was never one to have any kind of alcoholic drink with a meal. Tried it once at a steak house with a steak and it just would not work for me. I was a sweet tea drinker with evening meals and coffee with morning meals.

  10. Peated scotch has a strong burned dirt taste. There is nothing smooth about it.

  11. That's what I used to do. lol Don't know really what happened, I just stopped having a drink every time we went to dinner somewhere along the way. Never drank much at home, and wife doesn't drink at all. Says she'd like to get into wines, but everyone she tastes...she doesn't like. Just getting old I guess.

  13. Well, I have never been what you could call a alcohol drinker all that much but when I do it's normally a Jack Daniels brand of whiskey. Either Lem Motlow, Old #7 Black label or when I get the bug I will spend a few bucks more the buy the Gentlemen Jack. This 1/5th Tommy got me for Christmas I will probably be able to celebrate the year 2020 also if I am still around then. That is how much of a drinker I am these days. Back when I considered my self a drinker I would go through a 1/5th about every 6 months. I would come in from work, get a shower and then pour a little Jack over Ice and sip on it most of the evening while watching the tube and relaxing. Now with my health the way it is my doctor has told me a drink once in a while would be good for me but not every night any more so now it's maybe 2 a month at most so when I have one now I savor each one to the max..............

  14. Not being much of a drinker, actually practically not at all, I really am having fun with this thread. Not laughing at any of you(well maybe a bit), I'm enjoying learning a bit about the whiskeys and bourbons out there. The last I bought was a sample of the Honey Whiskey several years ago. Really didn't like it at all.

  15. You know, this actually started out as a joke. Then several others got involved. Since this might be see as selling/bidding activity, I'm going to stop all this. Will send you a pm.

  16. Sorry to hear of her passing, she sounds like a lady I would have enjoyed shooting with. I bet that was a huge step forward for her, to confront her fears the way she did. In my younger days, I moved out young, got my own place, had a decent job, but because I was a young woman living on my own, I had issues with nosy landlords coming into my apartment when I was not home, and a stalker ex-boyfriend or two. Even without a gun, I was determined that I was not going to put up with prolonged harassment. I told the perps I did not believe in restraining orders, that I would handle the situation myself. That was enough to keep them from coming back. A little bit of attitude has gone a long way, lol! I bet if I had a gun at the time, and they had known, they probably would not have attempted to harass me in the first place.

  17. You’ll know peat when you taste or smell it. These highland malts don’t have any peat smoke. I’ll have to give this one a try. With scotch since it’s typically reused casks, time in the Barrel makes a huge difference. Hence why you love the 18 and think the 10 is swill

  18. Oh, it got cracked open the night I got it, and shared as well. I know now what I like, but I don’t have the vocabulary to describe whiskys and wines. I couldn’t tell you what peaty means. What I can say is that it’s smoother than the 12, but significantly less smooth than the 18. I love the 18, I like the 15, the 12 is good, the 10 is terrible.

  19. Back before my wife passed away we together spent at least once a week at the range. When I met her she had never fired a gun of any kind and was just coming out of a very abuasive marriage of 17 years. She never spoke much abou it and I had to drag it out of her what she went through. She had an order of protection out against him after the divorce which he violated regularly. She would call the police but by the time they arrived he would be gone. He actually kicked her door in twice. The police arrested him those two times, slap on the wrist and he was out again. I had a small 25 caliber semi auto I taught her how to shoot 1st so she would at least have something she could keep at home and it would be better than nothing. I was impressed how quick she caught on to the little gun. At 3 yards she was able to to put 5 rounds in a coffee cup saucer size circle. I told her to just focus on center mass and shoot till the gun was empty if she ever had to use it. She told me that knowing she had it and knowing she knew how to shoot it was the first night she actually was able to sleep and rest. As time went on I took her back to the range and moved her up to the 380's and she caught on very fast and I was impressed with her progress. There did come a time that the 25 was needed but she never had to shoot him. He kicked in her front door on a Sunday morning about 9AM. She waited for him to enter the house as I told her to after she dialed 911. When the police arrived he was laying face down on the floor with his hands behind his back and she was sitting in a chair waiting for them to arrive. That was the last time he ever came back. He got 11/29 and 5 years probation and the judge told him if he violated probation he would serve every day of the 5 years. We still went to the range a couple times a month till she passed away and she improved every trip. Like I said earlier, I think all women need to take a course and get trained with a hand gun and get a CCP to protect them selves and their children. I wish you all the best in your endeavor to teach women how to defend themselves.

  23. Reverse searing works. Gonna keep experimenting with this technique, very easy and fun. It wasn't as rare as shown in the pic, but it quite a good medium rare. I'm gonna take step #3 up about five degrees next time to see how it goes. Prepped a fillet with large salt flakes and pepper grains as big as my mill would get. Put into an oven set to 325 with a thermometer in it. Cooked it to 135. Rested for 10 min wrapped in foil. Sear one minute each side in a very hot pan (this part got smokey). Sliced the weird way shown here to view how well the color was throughout the meat and lightly sprinkled on some garlic powder. Enjoyed a delicious meal.

  29. Most places, except gas stations, can swipe the card and it will use it up and leave a balance to be paid. Re: restaurant, grocery store or pharmacies are great places to do this. I had 3 cards that had small amounts left on them and used all 3 at a restaurant then paid final bill with credit card. Lol

  31. Wow. My local store has created a bourbon club. When they get limited/rare/special stuff, they do a random drawing and contact you to say you can come get one, and only one, bottle of whatever they've got. Seems the knoxville hipster whisky snobs are mucking it up for everyone.

  32. I had a bad experience today at Toddy’s on Kingston Pike, Knoxville. Stopped in for the first time and found some Weller Special Reserve (green label) for $29. I took it to the cashier (young guy) who was checking us out and I mentioned what a good price it was. Another older employee started going off about the Knoxville Bourbon Club or some such...making his phone ring off the hook and coming in to buy these types of bourbons and selling them at a profit...he would rather sell them to his regular customers. He claimed they forced him to continually lie and tell people he didn’t have the bourbon they wanted. At first I thought he was joking but he got louder and louder. I advised that perhaps he should find something else to do if selling bourbon caused him so much stress. He then yelled “YOU THINK I’M STRESSED”? I had pushed some unseen button. From the looks on the younger employees faces they had seen this behavior before. I won’t go back to Toddy’s. May not even drink that bourbon...ok, yeah I’m going to drink the bourbon, lol. Happy Holidays, go to Bob’s Package Store!

  33. Took the family to Ok Carrol yesterday, first time I've been there, handgun range was nice, the rifle range was good but I wished it was much longer, the Pit sucked, wish it was flatter and longer. My daughter came in for Xmas from Colorado and she brought her BF from New York , I wasn't surprised he never held a gun in his life but I fixed that

  36. Beretta 92. A frame that fat should hold 24 rounds, not 15. Do we even need to mention the horrendous DA/SA trigger? True, you can't complain about it being light.

Since moving the shop to OS several years ago, I've been keeping pretty steady hours of 8:30A-5:00P M-F I've been doing quite a bit of machining/labor jobs for other FFL/SOTs across the country but I still do general smithing as I always have. I do still ask folks to text me before they make the drive so I can confirm I'll be around. (803) 517-5448 is my cell. And of course email is welcomed as well Thanks guys

Still here, in Oliver Springs now but as Bryan said I haven't been able to browse the site like I use to but happy to help you all if I can. Miss you guys! Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

  42. Well, I am not a Scotch person or a Burbon person so I guess that makes me an outcast because I am a Sour Mash Guy and my Son In Law made my day on Christmas when he handed me a 1/5th of Gentleman Jack. I had just finished up a 1/5th of Black label old #7 and was going to have to make a run to the store before New Years eve to have a toast to bring in 2019 but now all have to do is crack a seal and pour a little Gentlemen Jack on a few cubes of Ice and toast the new year.........................
