  1. The only fun part is that we have power, food, and beer and I don't have to go anywhere.

  2. Somewhat tough day for training, really tough day to stay warm and dry. Had a great time though - which has proven true every time I make it out. Continue to be impressed with the folks who show up and train - really enjoy seeing and training with familiar faces and always enjoy meeting new ones. I had a nice roller coaster day of shooting - some pretty ugly blunders but mixed in with some of my more solid shooting ability. Cold hands and extra cover garments can be challenging. I had a few runs of shooting with a pretty terrible grip from the get go. Saw some of my better runs came from just focusing on first establishing a good grip or when we started from the ready position. Shot some really good drills and then Randy came up with a REALLY good one that I look forward to doing again and some variations of. Ya, looking forward to making the event in January, looked at the website (firstpersonsafety.com) and didn't find anything on it yet.

  3. I usually put rum or brandy in my 'nog. Or maybe the other way around. I like my whisky with ice or coke.

  4. I think it's just the opposite. Once it becomes history it's no longer personal. Then it just becomes a historic event. Kinda like a 4th of July furniture sale.

  5. I think wildlife officials in many states do not want to admit to the possibility of big cats because as soon as they admit a population exists, then the Endangered Species Act comes into play. It doesn't just protects the animals; it requires protection of their habitat. Large cats have large ranges, so an acknowledged breeding population would give them huge headaches. It is much easier to deny for as long as possible, then blame confirmed sightings on cats just passing through from some other known population. In Georgia, for years the DNR would basically say you were mistaken, a liar, or crazy if you reported a cougar of any color. Then a guy shot one, and they had to acknowledge the far-ranging lone cats. They also charged him under the Endangered Species Act even though he said he was in fear of his life. Maybe it was a message to future hunters to shoot, shovel, and shut up.

  9. My guess is that most people under 30, maybe 40, don't even know the significance of Dec 7. Schools don't teach history anymore.

  10. " Trying to erase history doesn't change it." You are very correct with this statement here. They think removing statues and other things in our nations history is going to make history go away or be changed somehow. There is nothing you can do to change the past. The only thing people can hope for is a better future................JMHO

  11. Always stop and say a prayer for all those who fought. Both of my grandfather's served, 1 Army, 1 Navy. My maternal grandfather was a BIG part of my upbringing, when my mom passed away she left me all of his medals and burial flag. Just recently finished my man cave and they are displayed front and center. We must never forget all the good, bad and ugly parts of our countries history. Trying to erase history doesn't change it.

  13. I have a calendar pop-up for 11:48 our time on Dec 7th, and have a brief moment. I never want to forget the enormity of how our destiny as a nation was changed by that event, and remind myself how thankful that men like my grandfather were able to answer the call it rang out. But I understand how enough time has gone on that the majority of the population could let it slip by. We have busy lives in the life of plenty it provided, and missing the moment of the day isn't necessarily an indication of ingratitude.

  16. You don't shovel wet snow, You just walk through it to your vehicle unless it is garage kept. It's Tennessee, just wait about 1/2 day and it will probably be gone anyway..........

  17. It is all fun until I need to go somewhere. Shoveling that wet snow is the way heart attacks happen. We still have power, but wondering how long. No sign of snow plows yet.

  19. I run an 8" 300blk SBR with a PDW stock as my SWAT gun and have ran several other shorties. The 8" 300blk is awesome as I can fit it in a backpack for plain clothes work. Also love the maneuverability in tight spaces like trailers. Flash and concussion is a little more than full length rifles but in reality they all will leave your ears ringing. It's all a trade off. I feel the benefits outweighs the negatives.

  23. I have pistols in 300Blk, 5.56, .277, and 9mm, I like to shoot them. The one I carry in the truck is the 300Blk at the moment, but any of the above will be better than a handgun. I don't worry about the braces, they are legal, and if pulled over it's easy to explain to any LEO if they are unaware. Of course the reason for the stop can make things more difficult, if you are doing stupid things, or get mistaken for someone that did, it may take more explaining.

  24. Nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to weather. I get up in the morning, Look at thermomitor on the front porch and dress acordingly. If it's cloudy I might take an umbrella. Only Mother Nature knows what she has planned for us petty little humans.......

  25. I believe we have Black Panther deniers here on TGO. The problem is the actual sightings outside of our area are re-posted as caught in area and shared. A large vibrant population is not probable. pass throughs with a few locals is possible and with the size of the Park and no residential, it's virtually impossible to confirm or deny. Hope we actually do have a few, protected (by accident) through the NPS. Here is an actual sighting of one in it's winter environment.
