  1. The problem with due process around mental health is that everyone is crazy, so who is going to be the judge? "It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society".

  2. The only way this works is to have a national registry and track who owns what. That is it. Otherwise how would anyone know who is SUPPOSED to have what and be able to enforce it if you gave or sold something to someone without doing the check ? Otherwise there is no mechanism to know if someone sold something to someone without doing a check. We need to make it known that if you support Universal background checks you are supporting universal gun registration...period. I fear at some point one monkey who has had enough is going to stand up and say "No" and others will join him all hell will break loose... (For those not tracking that "monkey" reference.... that is what Cornelius (in Escape From the Planet of the Apes (IIRC) ) said was how the Simian revolution started...one day one monkey (Ceasar) had enough of being told what to do by humans and stood up and said "NO" when ordered to do something.....

  4. I'm a big fan of Streamlight products. I carried a Stylus Pro in my shirt pocket for years at work. The color is pretty much worn off of it. But it still works great. I carry a micro-stream in my pants pocket everyday. Gives out really good light for its tiny size. I also have an antique Scorpion that so old it has a standard bulb. Still works great! I really aught to look into upgrading this one. And then there are TLR-1s on my house pistol and shotgun. I just don't think you can go wrong with Streamlight. However, about two years ago there was an ad on Armslist where I guy had 3 NIB S&W Tactical Flashlights at $35 each. I looked at them and was so impressed that I bought all 3 and he let me have them for $90. I don't know who makes these for S&W, but its a darn good flashlight. The strobe is absolutely blinding. I have one in the house, one in the truck and one in my emergency bag.

  6. Vetoed by Trump? Really? Lets see...Republican House? Check. Republican Senate? Check. Nobody "had" to do anything, but Trump volunteered the banning of bump stocks. Why? If it were to get passed the House and Senate, I think Trump would sign it in a heartbeat if he thought he'd gain a friend over it.

  8. If the accused is found not to be a threat the accuser should have to pay for the accused defense and time lost. A hostile neighbor , relative or disgruntled employee can claim you are a threat for no good reason and cost you a chunk of money.

  9. As always, the devil is in the details. Developing a process where there is true due process to determine if someone is a danger isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Ideally it would work in conjunction with adjustments to involuntary psychiatric hold laws to make it easier to get help for folks that need it while at the same time providing for a way for folks to have their rights reinstated after a period of time of improved mental health. Many psychiatric disturbances are temporary in nature and the laws should recognize that. An acquaintance of mine framed this in what I think is a near perfect manner. “If we viewed these mass shooting incidents as suicide in want of company, we might actually make some progress.” He was right. As gun owners we can’t say “this is a mental health issue, not a gun issue.” Then bury our heads in the sand and do nothing about addressing mental health issues. I don’t know that the bill being introduced by Dickerson is a good one or not, but I do think that as a state level action, there is the chance to actually make it a quality piece of workable law, and failing that tank it for cause and be vocal about why it wasn’t good legislation. This is a moment where movement will be made on these types of laws whether we like it or not. At the state level, we can make it a good law or we can eat a bad one. It’s up to us to choose. **I just encouraged civic engagement with lawmakers, do y’all know how bitter of a taste that leaves in my mouth? What’s the world coming to?**

  10. After watching Narcos on Netflix I have decided I need to bling up a nice 1911. Anybody here know of a local person that polishes stainless pistols in middle TN. ?

  11. The polish that can be archived with a hand rub compound or a 600 dry compound on a loose muslin wheel spinning at the correct 1800rpm is 2 completely different grades. The OP's posted picture is the result of the second form of polishing. Surface prep in the way of working down left behind machine cutter lines or course factory cut is a critical part of the process. Custom cutting wood sanding blocks to match contours to get to a 400g is a time consuming operation so much so that most don't do it. That's why I prefer to glass bead blast certain contours and save the high polish for flats to speed a job along like this one....

  14. I hunt does, so unless it has spots or I can tell that it is a fawn I will harvest it. Telling a large doe from a medium one is difficult, specially when there is nothing out there to compare them to. As for bucks, yea I'll take a buck, but whether it has spikes or a 10 point rack makes no difference to me. I have shot deer that turned out to have decent racks, though due to the branches in the area I couldn't tell until I went up to them. That is why I don't hunt in areas where it has to have a 15" spread or other measuring guideline, just too much guessing for me. I check all my game online, makes it much easier for me since I like to take the hide and the head off before I take it home. But I don't misrepresent my harvest, even when a spike will keep me from getting another buck, just doesn't make sense to break the law in that way. I would rather end my season early than to do that. But at the same time I don't like the regulations to be written so as to put people in positions that may have them break the law. Just like the bait rule, there is no distance given so you can technically be cited for hunting over bait if your neighbor has a feeding station near your property line which you are not aware of.
