I was able to participate in a private shootenanny of a full-size Civil War cannon one time. It was great fun as I bet this was.

Time for the scale mountain howitzer shoot! We shot everything from golf clubs to pool balls at the targets. 13 rounds in all. What you see is 3.5" bore with 4 oz of pyrodex or goex. From the amount of leaves they knocked out of the trees down there, it would be a great way to get apples down out of an apple tree. One base ball bat went completely threw one of the press board sheets side ways. Biggest key hole on a target I ever saw. Made a hell of a slapping noise on that one On the second shot, it scored a direct hit on a full size race car driver card board cut out with a pool ball. He has blue leathers on. You can see him go down.

If the ferry operator was armed, he should have tried to hold him there. But I can't fault him for not engaging him, only he knows his capabilities. As to shooting while he is running away, I think him being a danger to the community at large would give you legal cover.

Dad wouldn't let me have a BB gun (bad experience in his youth) but I got a Springfield 20ga single shot when I was five. I could only shoot it when he was around. I passed it to my son. He killed his first turkey with it.

Those calicos are super cool. String some christmas lights and blinkers on there and you have a pretty good scifi prop too!
