  1. A. Did you know that before computers, people could do complex math equations with only pencil and paper? It's amazing! B. What about them? Not all radiation is harmful. C. The same way that the rest of the equipment and crew did. D. Crappy camera tech? E. You will go to your grave correct. The first man stepped foot on the moon in 1969, which is not the early 1960's.

  2. I know I've said this often, but it probably bears repeating for newcomers and those in the back. We welcome all kinds of people on TGO. Our membership is as wide at the internet. But, we do have expectations. Beyond the code of conduct - I have a simple rule - our members should add something to this community and the conversations that happen here. This is not a uniform group - nor should you assume it to be. If you're going to participate in a discussion, you should bring something of value to it. To our newcomers - that also includes things like: Descriptive thread titles Using the search function to see if maybe there have been some other threads about a particular subject over the last 10 years Avoid over generalizations and blanket statements- For example, saying "I HATE liberals" for example may explain what makes you the way you are - but does little to add to the actual discussion. As you step into a new community, maybe take a look around and get a feel for things. Slow down a bit. Figure out where you can add value. Where do you have expertise? Contribute. There's a lot of drama in our world right now. We welcome new members to our community, but we don't have a ton of bandwidth if you're bringing drama with you...

  3. Keep us in your prayers tomorrow boys. They cycled us out for the night. Fresh crew pulling the over night. We'll be back at it early tomorrow morning. There are crews coming in from everywhere. I'm hitting the shower and the bed.

  6. I expect this is fake news. I don't believe there is any basis in TN law for issuing a "shoot on sight" order, and the liability risks involved would be phenomenal.

  10. If your going to hit Buds, you also need to hit Smoky Mtn knife works next door. Their ammo prices are a bit better on some types and I saw the same on their guns for some models. The knife works has expanded their gun area enormously during the last 3 or 4 years.

  12. As a NYer who moved down here I’d say your problems aren’t from transplants like myself. It’s gonna be the youth. I look at the stuff going on in Johnson City, liberal attitudes, gay pride parades, etc. it’s almost as bad as CA there. For myself, I bought land in the hills, built some AR pistols that I couldn’t own in NY, unpinned my stocks and put A2 birdcages back on. Rocking the standard mags and putting in for a few suppressors. I love this place.

  18. After reading a few threads over on INGO, it looks like they're slow to ban. I'm going go with the fact this guy isn't a member under this name on RMGO (Rocky Mtn Gun Owners) and the only two places he's surfaced are here and INGO, and just cut bait. @MacGyver, I owe you a cup of coffee.

  31. There are a couple of AR variants that I've been eyeing for a long time. Back around 2010 I paid $270 otd for two Mosins and a spam can. Probably have fired less than 100 rounds of that. Looks like it may be time to do a MN to AR conversion. The Mosins were fun when they were dirt cheap, but they are a novelty, and for what they are bringing today there are so many better guns for the money.

  32. Hard to say if I'd get tired of all day gunfire disrupting my quiet home life. Of course measures could be taken to minimize noise I suppose. but my mini-14 is one loud rifle I've noticed! Others are worse, some are better. Seems a covered insulated semi-closed shooting dugout type of arrangement might help. Natural hills and terrain, trees etc could muffle noise some too in a perfect "Shooting Community" common area. Indoor facilities for handguns perhaps. It could be made Ideal with the right design. OK I'm in! where do I sign up?, I hate golf.

  40. It really is a buyers market. I’ve bought 4 guns in the last month. The election of Donald Trump created a massive relief on pent up pressure in the market. This has had positive and negative effects. I’m sure there are a bunch of folks who thought they had money invested in guns only to find out the return isn’t monetary. I just hope the industry players can weather the current market long enough to be there when we need them to lobby folks when things get tough again.

  41. When I look at the classified here I can tell some folks have not gotten the memo that prices are down. If you're having to bump a thread 100 times and the gun hasn't sold, you've got it priced too high. Folks would be better off waiting until prices go back up rather than sell at a big discount now. Now, if you're not in a hurry, there is nothing wrong with staying firm on the price, just don't expect it to sell anytime soon. Now is definitely a good time to buy. I'd hate to be in a position where I HAD to sell though.

  42. This shooting has been getting a lot of attention in Nashville - especially after the Jocques Clemmons shooting the year before. The particulars of this case seem to stem from how they stopped the car in the first place. Grand juries almost never indict an officer - so that in and of itself makes this significant.

  45. A couple of ancillary observations... The post above should be fairly timeless and be relevant 3, 6, or even 15 years from now, but these comments are particular to the current time: AK-47/74 pattern rifles seem to be an exception to the slump in pricing and sales, especially if they were manufactured in Russia. These rifles are actually rising in cost. The past few years have seen AK and AR-15 pattern rifles completely trade places in terms of marketability and cost. Ten years ago, you would have been laughed out of town if you tried to sell an AK for more than a comparably equipped AR. These days, you can buy an AR that you'd actually want to shoot for less than $600 and that sort of money only gets you into a decent AK. Glock 19s tend to still do well on the secondary market because everyone needs one even if they don't really want one. The advent of the Generation 5 Glock 19 doesn't seem to have softened the resale value of the previous generations too much as the Gen5 hasn't had a chance to prove itself and Glock is notorious for having to fix problems with the first few batches of any new generation. The caveat to that, of course, is that modified Glocks don't always sell very quickly unless the seller prices them reasonably and in accordance to what has been done to them. Stippling and custom finishes (like Cerakote) are very polarizing and might only suit the personal taste of the seller. Revolvers, 1911s, and so-called "Brown Rifles" (hunting bolt actions, shotguns, etc.) seem to be fairly immune to the pricing slump since they were never really in the same level of demand as the tacti-cool stuff and consequently, the market was never flooded with a surplus of them. Collector guns are almost always immune to market fluctuation, which is why they are collector guns. When the rest of the firearms market is racing toward the bottom, there's an advantage to being priced at the top - especially if you can command it. Don't expect to see collectibles selling at bargain prices unless someone is really hurting for money and doesn't have a savvy friend to save them from making a hasty mistake.
