  1. If you liked One Second After, try reading Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank. Its an older book written at the height of the Cold War back in 1959 about a small town in Florida which happened to be in the right place to survive a nuclear war. An interesting look at ordinary people trying to get by when the rest of the world has gone up in flames. Excellent read.

  2. When I retired in 2013, I always wanted a BMW and settled for this 2003 F650GS. Iv had my bike drivers License since 75 and key in on at least one important aspect of riding. As any one who races dirt or street would tell you, weight is an important factor in the agility of a bike. So iv never gotten into anything bigger than an old 750 Honda. I scored this 650 with 4K miles for slightly more than 4K. Anything I ever need to do on it is on F650.com. Its about 425 lbs dry, 4.2 gal's under the seat, ABS, heated grips, fuel injected 50HP and solid 75 mpg holding it to general road speed limits. I put these bikes at 75/25 road to dirt. Not a good dirt bike due to a tall first gear and undersized siphon type radiator. They really should have put a 6 speed in these old 650's. Iv done a bunch of upgrade mods and only my not so good back keeps the hours off the bike. But what a great short hop scooter, perfect for a one dayer park picknic with the ol'lady. My 5 year old grandson loves the 1/3rd mile long drive way I have to boot!

  3. For my personal taste, the fact that it has just a few semi-shiny bits and it's not completely slathered in chrome really appeals to the old school in me.

  4. Sooo, @56FordGuy found a 1965 IH Scout 80 that has spent the last 15 years sitting in a rancher’s field up in Wy-gnome-ing. Well, I bought the damn thing. We are in the planning stages right now for what direction the restoration will go, but he will be documenting its progress on his YouTube channel. (I’ll post a link once the first video goes up.) I’m really excited as I have loved the Scout and wanted one for years. Folks love to go on about the early Bronco, but the Scout came first. Here she is as she sits today.

  5. Ah yes, I get it. However we are under siege if we truly open our eyes. There has been a silent invasion with the goal of replacing our citizenry in a frenzied pace under mostly cover of darkness. The northeast has been packing em in steadily for the last 9 years while residents flee. PA has a commie governor, NJ does now, NY mayor is commie as well plus all the quiet little government positions that have been taken over. Not to mention the deep state (that doesn't exist) according to one member here. George Soros has been funding radical Attorney General races across the country. We don't address these things. We chase some made up left wing propaganda such as a porn star or collusion. I support several pro 2A national organizations and while it may be just a matter of time, it is a fight that may be futile, the 2nd is severely infringed as we sit here now. Until we address those that are attacking and have blatantly attacked the foundation, we are just hosing down the flames as opposed to the base of the fire. Censorship is king now, the media has been corrupt so long and thoroughly taken over this last decade. Now they have to stifle any information sharing that doesn't fit the narrative. Personally I don't think we will do anything since we've allowed them to take over all facets of government and didn't even mention it. Some still can't believe it would happen here so they aren't paying attention. Perhaps the women will start with storming the prisons when food prices skyrocket one day. Or some other likely scenario. I like your gusto though and hope you/we make progress.

  6. Well the poeple up there have 2 options! 1 is to move to another state or 2 vote the idiots out of office. They should realize that as long as they keep voting a Demorat into office they will be faced with these stupid decisions.......JMHO

  7. Ditto, was a very good book. I think the author had another one I found interesting as well.

  10. I'm not much of a motorcycle guy, primarily because I know beyond a shadow of a doubt I'd kill myself within an hour on one, but... Damn that's a sexy machine! THAT is a motorcycle I would love to have in my garage.

  12. I have a heavily modified stock powerplant Sportster of recent iteration. It is a great bike. I went style over substance and it sucks for more than an hour in the saddle. A proper seat and I would change my opinion. I personally prefer the light weight, nimbleness and narrow width of a Sporty. I ride it like I stole it.

  13. I normally quote parts of a reply that I think are important. In this case, every single word you posted is important. We had someone post on the Shooters Nation forum, using a screen name and a throw-away email address to obscure their identity, who took real issue with the notion that Dana Loesh, Ted Nugent and Colion Noir aren't the best representatives of the NRA that we could have. That person clearly didn't use any of the critical thinking that you just outlined and that's a damned shame. No one called Loesh or Noir "racist" in the interview. Angry, yes, and angry doesn't sell well unless it resonates with you. Other people can be turned off by it and never listen to the message or feel invited in and made welcome. Nugent, on the other hand, has several well documented cases of making racist and xenophobic remarks. He's verbally assailed the Jews, Arabic people, and black people. You don't have to take my word for that, you can Google it and find his own words supporting it. This episode of the Shooters Nation Podcast was absolutely meant to be an opportunity to see things through the eyes of others and ask yourself if you're doing anything to lower barriers and be ambassadors of the Second Amendment, if you're just being passively apathetic about who partakes, or if you're intentionally or unintentionally fostering anything that deters people from joining the cause and exercising their Rights. It's sad that MacGyver and I were chatting about this very thing yesterday and he commented that sometimes as a community we're just so white that we can't even see the issues and relate to how other people might feel. That might piss some folks off. If it does, I'll pray for you, but you need to ask yourself why you're so upset about it.

  14. That's awesome, looking forward to progress updates. Maybe one day I'll have a big pile of cash to burn for something like this.

  15. Well I got my questions answered with out even asking it. I actually laid awake last night trying figure out why ethnicity was even mentioned in the discussions. I don't believe or cannot ever remember anyone here that has brought it up, not saying it has not been and I missed it. To me all members are equal and have just as much right to be here as the next person unless they prove they do not or cannot follow the site rules and then it is up to the owner or moderators to handle that situation. I honestly don't care if you are from another planet. If you enjoy shooting and you enjoy talking about Firearms or anything else pertaining to them all I can say is welcome to the site................JMHO

  16. Well, I'm Hispanic and have not felt excluded in any way. Heck for a long time I thought one guy here was black until he mentioned his avatar was not a reflection on his ethnicity (I'll let him chime in), and I bet many here thought so as well. I don't feel that TGO excludes anyone, but face it, this is a majorly white male oriented hobby, not because it excludes anyone per se, but that is who gravitates to it. This is not something that is a problem as I see it, what are we going to be "busing" in minorities and females in from other forums? Until minorities and females WANT to be gun owners, AND join these groups the status quo will be maintained. I personally don't care what gender or ethnicity a gun owner is, I just care what actions they take with their guns. As a gun owner, I talk to anyone who seems interested in them, I'll even invite them to go shooting with me. I have spent many a round with friends and family and their friends at a few ranges. I've encountered some that have started an anti-gun rant with me unaware that I was carrying the whole time until I mentioned it. I've even had a few lean my way at the end.

  17. I kept saying I was going to buy a new Cobra, but the price put me off. I could have had one new for less than $700 OTD; either through GT Distributors or a couple of online vendors. I walked into GT’s to find a used one for $550 with a $65 Desantis Holster. I bit, and now own lightly used Cobra. I have put about 300 rounds through it and I love it. It has a better trigger than my vintage Colt D frame and outshoots it. I am glad I found one for basically $150 less than a new one. Now it wears vintage Herretts Shooting Stars.
