  1. Sooo, @56FordGuy found a 1965 IH Scout 80 that has spent the last 15 years sitting in a rancher’s field up in Wy-gnome-ing. Well, I bought the damn thing. We are in the planning stages right now for what direction the restoration will go, but he will be documenting its progress on his YouTube channel. (I’ll post a link once the first video goes up.) I’m really excited as I have loved the Scout and wanted one for years. Folks love to go on about the early Bronco, but the Scout came first. Here she is as she sits today.

  2. I normally quote parts of a reply that I think are important. In this case, every single word you posted is important. We had someone post on the Shooters Nation forum, using a screen name and a throw-away email address to obscure their identity, who took real issue with the notion that Dana Loesh, Ted Nugent and Colion Noir aren't the best representatives of the NRA that we could have. That person clearly didn't use any of the critical thinking that you just outlined and that's a damned shame. No one called Loesh or Noir "racist" in the interview. Angry, yes, and angry doesn't sell well unless it resonates with you. Other people can be turned off by it and never listen to the message or feel invited in and made welcome. Nugent, on the other hand, has several well documented cases of making racist and xenophobic remarks. He's verbally assailed the Jews, Arabic people, and black people. You don't have to take my word for that, you can Google it and find his own words supporting it. This episode of the Shooters Nation Podcast was absolutely meant to be an opportunity to see things through the eyes of others and ask yourself if you're doing anything to lower barriers and be ambassadors of the Second Amendment, if you're just being passively apathetic about who partakes, or if you're intentionally or unintentionally fostering anything that deters people from joining the cause and exercising their Rights. It's sad that MacGyver and I were chatting about this very thing yesterday and he commented that sometimes as a community we're just so white that we can't even see the issues and relate to how other people might feel. That might piss some folks off. If it does, I'll pray for you, but you need to ask yourself why you're so upset about it.

  3. If any of y’all haven’t taken the time to listen to this excellent episode of the podcast, I’m bumping this thread up to highly encourage you to do so. When you do so, set aside your defenses and listen with an open mind. Sometimes when we hear a criticism of something or someone we like, we can throw up our mental walls and not really hear what the other person is saying. In this podcast Tiffany and Aqil gave us the opportunity to understand that while some of the NRA’s messaging may be speaking to us, it may not be speaking to the best parts of us. In addition, what it might be telling folks who come from a different background is that they’re not welcome. If you don’t think that’s not the message being sent, I implore you to pay special attention to the part of the discussion where the discussion turns to the Dana Loesch “clenched fist” ad. Don’t listen with a mind to develop a rebuttal, but a mind to put yourself in the shoes of another and see things from their perspective. See that it isn’t an attack. See that this is an opportunity. Its an opportunity to ask those who are already here despite being told they aren’t welcome how we can tailor our message to bring more folks into the fold. It’s an opportunity to learn how to walk the walk of the 2A is for everybody instead of just saying it while our firmly keeping a dog whistle in our clenched fist.

  4. Not really. The local shops still can't buy in volume like the big retailers, online or otherwise, can. The reason to support local shops isn't price-point. We should support them for quality of and variety of services offered.

  6. I kept saying I was going to buy a new Cobra, but the price put me off. I could have had one new for less than $700 OTD; either through GT Distributors or a couple of online vendors. I walked into GT’s to find a used one for $550 with a $65 Desantis Holster. I bit, and now own lightly used Cobra. I have put about 300 rounds through it and I love it. It has a better trigger than my vintage Colt D frame and outshoots it. I am glad I found one for basically $150 less than a new one. Now it wears vintage Herretts Shooting Stars.

  9. To the last man by Jeff Shaara is quite good for anyone interested in WW1. Will check this one out next time I'm on the road traveling. Gone for soldiers is also by Jeff, stand alone Mexican-American War, starring many of your favorites of the Civil War.

  12. Bought a used Scout when lived in Va. back in the late 60's, tough old bird. That thing would climb a tree if you had some way for the tires to get a grip on the tree bark. Had to change the back main seal on it was the only mechanical problem. Floor boards rusted out and had to repair them. Wish I still had it.

  13. Sandstorm by James Rollins. This the first in his Sigma Force series. I actually discovered this series in the middle, have read several of them and now I'm going back to the beginning to see how it all started. Synopsis: Sigma force is a black ops division of DARPA which investigates threats of a scientific nature. Basically, its scientists with guns. Rollins is an excellent writer. His science and history are both accurate and sound, plots plausible and his style keeps you enthralled. I highly recommend them.

  14. Taylor Anderson's Destroyermen Series. A little light syfy action about a WW1 destroyer transported to what seems to be another world. Sounds goofy I know, but it's actually quite good. Written by a retired naval officer.

  15. Bought a Scout II new. It started rusting right after it went out of warranty. Good running vehicle. Just quickly turned into a rust bucket.

  16. Our forums have been upgraded to the latest version of the IPBoard software. The server is re-indexing posts, as usual after an upgrade, so search results may be inconsistent and overall speed of the site may be decreased from the usual while that completes.

  18. Just finished Stephen Hunter's iSniper. Not his best, but not bad either. Next is Alton Brown's Feasting on Asphalt. It's entertaining so far.

  19. I get what you're saying on hating governmental mandates. Take the new back up camera requirement on new cars as of May 2018, totally unnecessary requirement. With that said, I do think the seatbelt requirement was one of the few that makes sense in my mind.

  24. Very cool. One of the YouTube channels I follow did a Scout restoration recently. It was from the same part of the country. This is random but be sure to catch their warning about mouse droppings in the vehicle from that area. It's actually in part 2 at 1 minute he talks about Henta Virus. Not trying to deter you, just want you and Blake to be aware.

  26. I love that the quote Kennedy put out about why he voted for it had zero to do with what the constitution actually said and only about "current times." In fact, I never see them talk about what the constitution says, it's always about impact with our current society and precedence from former rulings. Can't find any text in the Constitution that explicitly allows the Federal gov a say, or even the states, to charge sales tax on businesses not within their borders. Politicians could sniff out a dollar to tax if it was buried in 5ft of concrete.
