  1. Once upon a time I was sailing in federal waters with my grandfather and a few friends. The Coast Guard stopped us for an inspection. They asked if we had any weapons on board - to which we replied that we had a 12 gauge shotgun directly under the cockpit pulpit. They advised that we might consider something with some additional range as well - and that they found that stainless wiped down with a liberal coat of Balistol seemed to work well in the saltwater environment.

  3. I found the tool at Bass Pro. They were closer and I had a little money left on a gift card. So no out of pocket expense. The nut is now properly tightened and staked. Thanks.

  4. I chopped my 17 to 19 length and it is a great way to go. Yes people will give you a hard time about cutting up a gun, but it's your guy and you need it to do a job. "They" don't have to like it, carry it, understand it, or buy it later if you want to sell it. If I buy a 17 or 34 in the future I will chop the grip.

  5. I can definitely see that being very likely. Hell the whole deer will probably have then in late August, good times haha. I’m more worried about getting the meat and head to the freezer than I am anything. Late September is bad enough, but if the arrow hits anywhere but the right spot it could be a risky recovery.

  7. Yea, didn't get much advertising, and I get TWRA and TWF emails. Thanks for the heads up, I wonder if this an extra buck or is it part of the years quota?

  9. Any of the close range combative classes Randy offers should work with limited space. Pistol classes or even force on force would be cool. Just thinking a 2 day class might lure some of us middle TN guys up there.

  12. The longer I carry the more deeply I move into the “concealed means concealed” camp. It’s all about risk aversion for me.

  13. I became a Police Officer in the city I was raised in. I thought I knew the city and the people in it; I was naive. One of the most surprising things I learned from being a Police Officer was just how mean some people can be, and that thugs (and drunks) don’t care about authority, guns, or jail. I have been attacked while in full uniform carrying a gun, mace, and baton; it didn’t matter to some people. We didn’t have a lot of gang bangers when I was a cop and they weren’t the ruthless thugs they are today. That is why I don’t open carry and try not to print. Another reason is that I don’t want to have to worry about interrogating the entrance of a building looking for signs. I also don’t want to be the guy walking into an armed robbery and identified as a threat. However, I think most people have made up their mind of the issue. Some of those new to carry are looking for advice though and it’s good to discuss this issue every once in awhile. Open carry or printing can be a bad tactical decision depending on where you are. Open carry for political reason is just well.... a political argument. BTW... when I was young with a big chest and a thin waistline concealing was very easy. I could conceal a 6” Revolver or a full size 1911 with ease. When you get older and the chest and waist start moving towards the same size; it gets much harder.

  14. Like the Emerson wave feature. You leave the vehicle and it racks the gun. In the case of the French, you don't wanna be surrendering your gun with an empty chamber. Makes you look like a sissy.

  15. I say go with the 43 . I have had both. I like both but I'd go with the 43. Both are reliable but when it comes to complete disassembly to clean inside the striker channel and all other parts , the Glock 43 is way easier to disassemble. With the Shield you have to remove the rear sight which holds the striker safety plunger and all. That's just too much bull crap to have to go through to thoroughly clean a pistol. Bottom line is the 43 is a very simple gun , very little parts and very reliable in my opinion and to completely disassemble it all you need is a punch or a nail or anything skinny. With the Shield you need a roll pin punch for the roll pins and an allen wrech for the rear sight . The 43 allows you to do any thing you want to do in the field with pretty much anything you have around you , no special tools. Just an FYI , I am different from most others as I think of simplicity and reliability even if it means the pistol may have a slightly heavier trigger pull and even if the pistol is heavier and thicker.

  16. I have a velvet.buck mounted. It was fine in the house, but once mama relegated it to the basement, some sort of bugs have eaten a lot of the velvet off.
