  1. In this community, know that if you’re having these thoughts, there are people who will listen and sit with you in that dark place until we can find some light. You can PM me anytime and I’ll pick up the phone - or get in the truck and help you get some help. You’re not alone.

  3. I read the story today, sad. Seems there is a trend with this, Kate Spade hung her self as well. Depression is a powerful problem. I am a happy person, I keep stress to a minimum. Good kids and a great wife makes life good.

  5. Probably most here don't even know who he is, but it was quite a sense of loss to me to learn he committed suicide overnight. Such a seemingly boundless lust for life, it's hard to believe really. Maybe more to the story, or maybe just an insidious depression that finally tipped the seesaw. - OS

  6. These are headed out as gifts for a family get together. Tennessee Walnut handles, brass pins and lanyard tubes with 5/32" thick 1095 carbon steel.

  7. I sorta see the loaded chamber, but totally safe idea, but the first time someone yanks one out and it slam fires they will stop using them. Especially in the military where debris can work its way in between the bcg and live round. Slamming that forward with a pea gravel in the way is playing russian roulette. Plus wouldn't a side charging AR be pretty much the same motion and time?

  10. On the flipside, doctors are also using drugs to help treat these issues. Low does of MDMA(Ecstasy) is being used in clinical trials to treat soldiers with PTSD. The active drug in Mushrooms is being used to treat depression. In some cases, only one "trip" was needed to cure depression in patients. I guess it boils down to whether or not it's being done in a controlled setting vs someone abusing them.

  11. From a BBC report... Drug abuse and suicide seem to have a pretty strong correlation with one another, as evidenced by the countless list of celebrities with well-known chemical addictions who have taken their own lives. Drugs tend to amplify emotions and many of them thin-down a person's apprehensions and prohibitions toward behavioral extremes and risky, sometimes fatal, activities. While I am not saying that Bourdain was strung out when he allegedly took his own life, I am saying that there is a lot of evidence substantiating the fact that once you chemically uncage certain emotional demons, a person might never be able to successfully put them back in their box and can fall victim to them much later in life. Even when sober. It's sad. If you know someone struggling with depression, help them get help. They may not want it and may not accept it, but try.

  12. There is some evidence to suggest that one can lead to others doing the same. It's really tragic. Mental health experts say exposure to media coverage of a high-profile suicide, especially coverage which fixates on the gratuitous details of a person's death, can lead to more suicides. It's called "suicide contagion." https://www.wfaa.com/article/news/nation-now/kate-spades-death-and-the-unintentional-consequences-of-suicide-coverage/465-03cf324a-3e0c-4f01-a774-49828a460c3f

  13. I'm just guessing at Raoul's meaning, but the current situation provides a nice steady, albeit small in the big picture, flow of arms and materiel to the South in the forms of both direct US troops and selling them our stuff. That means money in the pockets of certain people who pay a sizeable chunk of it to political war chests. The current stalemate also gives us a pretty good excuse to keep troops deployed on China's doorstep. There's also the short-term pain of reunification. Germany felt it in the 90s when the west had to pay to bring the east forward almost a half-century in infrastructure and education. That hurt the German economy for several years. The south would have to do the same for the north and would feel that economic strain. We do a lot of trade with South Korea these days in technology and industrial products so it would hurt us a little too, but I'd expect that to be rather negligible given the size of our economy.

  14. Ive got one with the thumb safety and about to get another one for my wife. I love it! Its easy to load, rack, point, shoot and it fits my Alien Gear holster for my 2.0 compact 9mm. I do have arthritis in my hands but it doesnt stop me from racking the slides on all the rest of my pistols. Long story short, I just really like the gun!

  15. I don't think Kim is crazy. I think it served him well to convince our dickless leader (Obama) that he was crazy. If he plays ball with us, it will be because Trump offers him a deal that's better than his current crazy dictator deal. Trump made it clear... If you point that nuke at me, I'm gonna kill you. In the meantime, I'm gonna starve you half to death. Obama never had the nads to confront him. I'm just not all that worried about Kim. Trump is offering to make his life better, and only has to throw him a few bones to do it.
