Years ago, I was with a local bank that was bought out to B of A. Had a truck financed there. I was sending my payments in, but would get a statement every month not showing the credit. The lady at the local branch told me to not pay another dime until they got it straitened out, because it was just like throwing money away, if my payments weren't showing as a credit on my account. It got so bad they almost repoed the truck and I never was able to get it off my credit report (it finally just went away due to time). I got that straitened out, paid the truck off, made sure all the checks I had written was cleared, and walked in there one day and demanded all my money right there on the spot.
From that moment on, I've have always dealt with a local bank only. That is getting harder to do with all the buyouts. There has even been rumors that the bank I'm with now was thinking of selling out. I've told my banker that the day that happens, I'm gone. I'll bury my money under a stump before I ever let B of A get ahold of any of it again.
