  1. 230 grain fmj atop 5 grains of Bullseye; just like John Browning and Uncle Sam intended.

  2. We ran a ladies only Defensive Pistol Skills class this weekend. It was only advertised at a local ladies' only match and in a few shooting groups on Facebook. We had 13 motivated and eager ladies. Not a single one of them showed up with the husband/boyfriend/gun-shop-guy recommended j-frame. Ages ranged from early-20s all the way up to 69. Two were military veterans, and one is currently serving Coast Guard.

  3. Have no doubt, Rick Scott is a bellwether. He’s an A+ rated Republican who essentially just flipped the NRA the bird. Others are watching. If he doesn’t pay a political price, plenty more will line up to follow him. It’s interesting to watch an organization built in opposition - which it’s extremely effective at - show vulnerability from the inside. I wouldn’t write them off, yet. They’re undoubtedly reminding Republicans of the consequences of crossing them - and I’m sure they’ll primary a few to serve as warnings to others.

  4. Bump stocks are good at making a lot of noise and ammo disappear but I don't think there is one thing evil or sinister about them. The trouble with surrendering things as a bargaining tool will eventually lead to the anti's having all the cards. We are slowly being assimilated to the tune of one to many amazing coincidences. The timing is way to good for this to be totally random acts

  5. Just in case there's an interest. Bone Frog Gun Club has 45 acp Fed HST 230 gr for $22.50/50 rds. I've only ordered 9mm from them, but shipping for 4 boxes (200 rds) 147 gr 9mm HST was $11.24 and they ship fast. Good company and solid service imho. edited to add link: https://www.bonefroggunclub.com/collections/ammunition/products/45-acp-230gr-federal-premium-tactical-hst-jhp-50rds-p45hst2

  6. I recently bought a 19X and the rear sight was a little farther off to one side than I like. It zeroed fine but that is a pet peeve of mine so I sold it. Went back to the store and inspected every single 19X they had and found one that is about perfect. I have yet to shoot the second one but it should be no different than the first one and be amazingly reliable, it is a Glock, as well as surprisingly accurate. I will say I have not been a fan of Glocks despite carrying them for work and every day carry. But with that being said I really like this one. For those that don't know the 19X was Glock's submission to the military service pistol program. The only difference is the submitted version had a manual safety and the civilian version doesn't, which I like. But beyond that it is identical to the gun submitted to the military for trials. Even though the 19X is a generation 5 gun it does have some slight differences from other generation 5 Glocks. What makes the 19X different than any other Glock is it has a 19 length slide on a full size, 17 frame. I hear of people saying Glock should have went with a longer slide and a shorter frame and that this is the worst gun ever but I think it is great, especially for a EDC. The shorter grip frame of the 19, as well as the compacts, do not allow for a full grip and without a good grip accuracy suffers. Another problem with the more compact guns is the magazine capacity. I know you can use a full size magazine with the compacts but if you are going to use a full size magazine why not have the full size grip to go along with it. I hear people saying it is not concealable but I beg to differ because most people are oblivious to their surroundings. If they are going to notice the grip of a full size pistol they are going to notice the grip of a compact but 99% of the people will have no clue a person is carrying a full size pistol. The slide being shorter has some benefits. Me, like most people, spend a lot of time sitting each day. And with a longer slide that can get uncomfortable as the gun is pushed up. With the shorter slide it is a lot less of a problem. The 19X is a perfect gun for those who spend most of their day sitting without giving up magazine capacity. People are screaming the 19X has a short sight radius, these are the same people carrying the super compact Glocks that have an even shorter sight radius. One difference I noticed from other generation 5 Glocks was that the front of the grip extends down to act as sort of a magazine protector. Standard Glocks have a cut out so a person can drag the magazine out easily if it doesn't drop free, the 19X does not have the cut out and instead has that extension to the grip. I like it because it gives you more grip. The 19X also has a maritime spring cup which helps it fire after being submerged in water. It comes from the factory with tritium sights that are bright and easy to see. It also comes with a lanyard loop but it is easily removed like any grip plug. The generation 5 Glocks have an ambidextrous slide release, 19X included. I am not a lefty but I like the idea of an ambidextrous slide release. The one thing that the ambidextrous release does that I do not like is it exposes the internals to crud unlike previous versions. Probably not a big deal but you can look in and see the trigger bar moving. The genreation 5 Glocks also have replaceable backstraps. I currently use the largest backstrap with a beavertail. I do not have large hands but with the large backstrap it feels better, and shoots better, in my hands. It, like most generation 5 Glocks, seem to shoot better than any other generation of Glock I have ever shot. I have used and shot every generation except the first generation pistols and they have shot well enough but this thing surprised me with the accuracy. Touching holes at 7 yards was simple. Glock is bragging about their new "Marksman Barrel" and it is unlike any other Glock barrel because they are not polygonal anymore. The newest generation Glocks also have an integrated magazine well to help with magazine changes. I feel the 19X is a great deal in Glocks. It is $600 but it has tritium sights that are easy to see and seem brighter than most tritium sights I have seen. It comes with three standard G17 magazines in FDE, two of the magazines have +2 extensions raising their capacity. The one thing I HATE about the gun is the color. If it had been black it would have been a home run but instead it has a FDE grip and a burnt bronze/baby poop colored slide. One thing most people are not going to like about the generation 5 Glock is no parts, other than magazines, will swap with the previous generations. The barrels are different and the slides will not interchange. Not sure about trigger parts though. Speaking of magazines the 19X will use previous version magazines but will NOT work with other generation 5 magazines because of the base plates. Swap base plates and any magazine work. Another option is to remove the grip extension on the front of the grip. This is Glock's version of a "commander" pistol.

  8. Can't wait to move to Tennessee. We've had a few decades of ILLannoy ---- hey, we're slow learners! Anyway, the wife and I are gonna move down there, near Knoxville, this fall, and we're really excited about it. I have a number of firearms (arsenal?) and enjoy all outdoor sports. The Oak Ridge Sportsman's Association looks especially interesting. Would appreciate any comments on that. You guys can't imagine how different your forum is from my current one in IL. You're talking about fun stuff, and we're talking about whether the Gov is gonna sign the bill that would make everyone who owns a mag over 10 rounds a felon. Like I said, can't wait to move to Tennessee! Oh, to be around like-minded people................

  9. Shooters Nation Episode 02: With Special Guest Ian Strimbeck of Runenation http://directory.libsyn.com/episode/index/id/6351722/tdest_id/666675 David, Mark and Dennis interview special guest and self-defense trainer Ian Strimbeck of Runenation LLC. In this episode we talk about picking the right handgun for carry, how every situation isn't always a problem for guns, what it means to be a multi-disciplinary tactician, and why you should seek to learn a variety of life-saving skills as an armed citizen. Ian not only shares a ton of knowledge with us, but also answers several listener questions! Also in this episode: Mark tells us about the time he and a co-worker took some training and got into a fight with knives inside of a car and destroyed it, and David calls out gun-counter jockeys who foist ridiculously incompatible handguns off on first-time buyers. We even talk momentarily about color-filling the engraving on your handgun slide just to make sure we alienate everyone possible! It has got to become the norm for us to band together and let them know that we are not willing to share even a piece of our cake any longer. https://www.everydaynodaysoff.com/2013/11/08/cake-and-compromise-illustrated-guide-to-gun-control/

  13. Highly recommend Federal Guard Dog 45 ammo for carry. They are 165 grain, but run at over 1000 fps. Very unique design that expands every time yet feeds like an FMJ. They run great in my 45s, same ones as the OP has. http://www.handgunsmag.com/ammo/review-federal-guard-dog-ammunition/

  16. Great write-up Gordon. Thank you. I like the idea of the G17 size grip and 19 length slide. That alone should improve handling for most folks and make this gun a serious shooter. I'm a bit of a runt but frequently carry a G 17 and have no issues concealing it whatsoever. The 19 length slide shouldn't be a hindrance as it relates to accuracy and shootability. I've run a 19 for a few decades and it's more accurate than I am LOL.

  19. The thing is Crooked Hillary would be even “crookeder” if she had won. Who knows how many legislators’ lives she would have threatened, blackmailed, intimidated or houses burned down to get her way. Thank God she did not win, or who knows the path we would be on right now.

  20. Yes, the Canik is an awesome pistol. I bought one about 2 years ago when I saw an ad and the price was under 300. The reviews on it were pretty good, so I bit on it. Never regretted it. I now have 3 of them and a slew of mags for them. I just love that you can use the Canik mags and the CZ mags in them. Load them all up and shoot for half a day. And get a couple of the 20 round mags. I get tired before I empty the mag these days. lol

  23. I don’t think so, and for the same reason that nothing happened after Newtown, or Aurora, or any of the incidents that happened while Obama was in office. When a D is in the White House, the Rs in Congress have to prove their conservative cred by standing in opposition. When there is a R in the White House (even if he is really a life long New York liberal), maybe a little more regulation ain’t so bad, right? It happened here in TN. Look at what was able to be accomplished with Bredesen as Governor and look at how the progress came to a screeching halt as soon as Haslam took office.

  24. The great irony here is that if Hillary had been elected the GOP would have battled her on every move. Not out of principle, but out of spite. Saying "take the guns first and due process later" would have been the headline of every conservative news outlet. Instead we've identified the Elmer Fudd's of the gun community and watched as the GOP has essentially done nothing.

  25. So if I'm reading this chart correctly more Democrats voted no than Republicans. That's the reason I am not for the party but the person. Actions will always speak louder than words.

  26. Don't forget we keep electing two senators who don't really hold to conservative principles. At least one is gone after this term! Most Republicans tout principles to get elected but don't even remotely vote them when the time comes so this is not really surprising.

  27. Florida is on the verge of being blue, no doubt about it. I wound up living there for 12 years and it steadily changed for the worse. Cost of living, taxes and fees and what not all followed suit of the northern states. They've had an explosion in population and I would guess the majority of those coming in from places that were worse don't mind the incremental increases. I think what he signed is ridiculous and the fact he didn't address the shortcomings of the school district or the sheriffs department and the FBIs tells me he is going full on rino. You can make all the laws you want, but if you don't address the cause, you'll never fix the problem. Can he win? We shall see. Either way, the state lost!

  39. Read this with a heavy North Jersey accent: "It shoots a heat seeking bullet that can shoot down an airplane!" "It should only be used by the Army!" (She is talking about the single shot Barret 50bmg) "We need to restrict the sales of magazines. When their magazine runs out of bullets they won't be able to buy new magazines." "They would be out of bullets!" (She thinks magazines come preloaded and when you run out of ammo, you have to buy a new magazine} Those are dumb things said by politicians who are writing gun laws. Moral Busybodies. I think C.S. Lewis wrote this to be kind of tongue and cheek, half joking and all true. Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
