  2. Hypocrisy of the left. Use kids to talk about guns for emotional impact and claim they have a say in politics but don't trust them to own the firearms they speak of? I guess maturity and development don't count other than words the left uses them for.

  3. That's true, they do, but without the NRA, we'd be in a world of hurt. Who else has the money to file lawsuits of this magnitude. I don't always agree with everything they do, heck, I don't always agree with anybody.

  6. Florida a prime example of successful Republican gerrymandering over the last 20 years. That has been somewhat reformed in the last couple. Remember, overall Florida went with BHO. Twice. And Nelson has been elected three times. - OS

  7. Florida is on the verge of being blue, no doubt about it. I wound up living there for 12 years and it steadily changed for the worse. Cost of living, taxes and fees and what not all followed suit of the northern states. They've had an explosion in population and I would guess the majority of those coming in from places that were worse don't mind the incremental increases. I think what he signed is ridiculous and the fact he didn't address the shortcomings of the school district or the sheriffs department and the FBIs tells me he is going full on rino. You can make all the laws you want, but if you don't address the cause, you'll never fix the problem. Can he win? We shall see. Either way, the state lost!

  10. One of the most conservative governors of one of the most conservative states. This does not bode well for us. Many would say the answer is to vote, but he would have been my guy. The NRA backed him. I fear we aren't going to like the real answer to the question "What can we do?" before long.

  11. I have plastic guns and actually like most of them. I also like 1911's....probably cause it's what I was raised on and carried most of my life. Old habits die hard. For me they are still the most accurate and fun to shoot pistols. As far as difficult to maintain I find it not so much if you've been doing it for over 40 years.

  12. All the talk of AKs made me want to post my latest project gun, a Bulgarian AK74. Built off a Childer's 80% blank. Not much else to say about it other than it slings brass like no one's business, almost embarrasses my G3.

  13. Not to get into the age old caliber debate, but in that situation you need a bigger gun. I've been known to carry a .380 when in deep concealment because it has to be small. Other times I carry a 9mm, again due to size restrictions. On something like a "behind the counter gun", It's going to be a long gun, either a shotgun or rifle, because the only size limitation is for it to fit behind the counter. For me personally, 9mm is the biggest thing I want in a self defense handgun. It's not that I can't handle the recoil of bigger calibers, I had a Desert Eagle .50AE one time, but I feel that the 9mm is a much more controllable round for me. I can make fast follow-up shots much more accurately with 9mm than I can with .40. Given the choice on any self defense firearm, when concealment isn't a issue, I'm going with a shotgun or rife, with the choice being on what I think the range of the threat may be.

Rick Scott has no core values, he is a damned politician positioning himself for a senate run... He is the Lamar Alexander of Florida right now... He cares about nothing other than building a constituency to become a senator... It will be interestin to watch how this plays out... Watchin leroy...

  20. Don't forget we keep electing two senators who don't really hold to conservative principles. At least one is gone after this term! Most Republicans tout principles to get elected but don't even remotely vote them when the time comes so this is not really surprising.

  21. Hi girls! Glad to see a little action in here! I haven't been around as much lately as I usually am, but I do pop in here and there to check on the place when I have time. My mom is on hospice now and I'm her sole caretaker...... I just don't have a lot of time for anything else right now. I wanted you all to know I haven't abandoned the place! I'd also like to extend an invitation out there for any women that would like to learn how to shoot and safely handle a firearm. Maybe you're here because you're interested in learning, but don't have anyone to teach you. If you're new to firearms, sometimes it can seem a bit intimidating.....especially for a female. I live about 15 minutes south of Morristown in East TN and I have my own little range right here beside my house. If any ladies in the area want to learn, just send me a pm and I'd be happy to help. I've been shooting guns since I was four years old and have had my carry permit for almost 20 years. I've taught quite a few women (and kids) to shoot over the years and I'm very knowledgeable when it comes to guns and gun safety. So if you're interested in learning how to safely handle/shoot/carry a firearm, or if you just have a question, please feel free to shoot me a pm and I'll do everything I can to help you.

  23. If you stop and think about what the populaton of Florida is made up of you would come closer to understanding why he signed the law. 40% of the population is hispanic, 50% is old people that retired from one of the Yankee states with lousey gun laws and 10% is Red Necks up in the panhandle. Florida is one of those states you cannot expect to be the same twice on anything........JMHO

  24. Far from being my favorite 9, but have to agree on the 19. It's just got so many things going for it that it's hard not to think of it in the top echelons of carry guns. Having said that...I'll most likely have my Shield and a spare mag or three with me most. Now...all my opinions aside, MRSpivey has it right. Whatever works for you. I have some Smith wheelies that I love. Some my Dad's, some I've acquired over the years. As indicated, I have Glocks, Smiths, Walthers, CZs, and a few Sigs thrown in for good measure. Even a Tauri or 2. lol My house gun(s) tend to be whatever I shoot easily enough that I can pick up and know what to do without fiddling around with buttons and levers. For me, that tends to be the G19 and a couple of Springfield SC9's. I bought the first SC9 many moons ago and had a CT Grip put on. Old and still functional. I change the battery(thanks to CT's Lifetime Battery deal) every year. The second, I traded into from a member here. Both are in convenient locations for easy access, but well hidden from sight. I'm not particularly great with any one of these, but I can use, fairly well I think, all of them. But picking an absolute is an exercise in futility for me. If I could keep only a few, I would probably have to go with Dad's K frame 38/357. Best all round gun I've ever shot. Not the best carry for me, but it can be done. Sorry, sort of wound up this morning.

  30. We have a Shoot Point Blank in Louisville, the daughter and I are there nearly every weekend, the staff gets huge kick out of watching other customers that don't know us. They all think it is cute to see a little girl with her father. Then she rocks her sparkly eyes and ears, loads mag, slams it home, works the action on her M&P22 and shoots smaller groups than the muscled tactibro in the next lane. We can't go to the range without positive comments from other customers.

  33. It costs $27 to ship a long gun from one of the state to the other. It can be shipped through the post office. No need to go through an FFL either. That is a damn good price on that gun. And for as little as you are probably going to shoot it the cost to shoot it won't be bad either. It isn't as plentiful or as cheap as 5.56 but 300 Blackout is a better caliber caliber than 5.56 for what you have planned. And if you reload I will make you a ton of brass to get you started if you want. Everyone should at least own one AR. A DPMS would work for what your plans are and they can be had for under $500. If you need ANY help I am here to help.

  35. You can build a rifle better than anything you might buy for a lot less. My barrel, which is the most expensive part, was $200, the bolt is $100, upper was $75, hand guard was $50, gas block $50, charging handle $25 and gas tube was $15. That is a little over $500 for a HIGH quality upper. Couple that with a basic PSA lower and you will be into the gun for under $700 and have a gun that is as good as any $1,000 gun you might buy. When buying a complete gun you are getting what THEY want to sell and often times you spend another $200-$300 to change it to fit YOU. When building it you can build it how you want it and save money. I can guarantee you have all the tools needed to build an AR and if you need a tool I can send you what you need.

  36. I do not like 7 twist guns unless they are going to be shooting HEAVY bullets. 8 or 9 twist is my preferred twist. An 8 twist will shoot any weight bullet that will feed from a magazine. I would get a lightweight barrel as well. They shoot as well as standard or heavy weight barrels as long as they are decent barrels. 16"-18" is the barrel length I would use. You can buy 18" barrels that are lighter than most 1 6" barrels. That 2" extends the range as well as gives you the option of a longer gas system. If you decide on a 16" barrel go with a mid length gas system. With 18" barrel use a rifle length gas system. Use a CLAMP on adjustable gas block to tune the gun. No need to go longer or shorter. Those has system lengths minimize wear, felt recoil as well as gas in the face. If recoil and quick follow up shots are important use a muzzle brake. If shooting at night or low light are a possibility use a flash hider. Do not use a muzzle brake/flash hider combo Because they do not do either very well. Because most uppers are now 7 twist you might have to build your own or have it built. I would suggest a 12" m-lok free float hand guard. That will give you plenty of room for customization. For the lower just but a complete lower from a place like PSA. Triggers are easy to replace if your decide you want to upgrade, the rest should work well or is easily replaced. I am building my PERFECT AR for exactly the same reason you are. It is an 8 twist, 18" SS fluted, lightweight barrel from Green Mountain with a rifle length has system. It uses a CLAMP on adjustable has block that will let me tune it for a suppressor. It uses a 16.5" slim free float rail, ambi charging handle with a lightweight BCG from Brownells. It will use a 6" silencer instead of a flash hider. It has a forward assist and a dust cover. The lower will be an Anderson with a carbine buffer tube. I will do my own trigger at 3 pounds. It uses an ambi magazine release, extended bolt release and a Luth AR precision buttstock. Anni safety. Fingered pistol grip. It uses a flatware recoil spring with a buffer system I am building to reduce weight, reduce cycling speed and reduce felt recoil. Right now it looks like it will weight 6.5 pounds without an optic. I also have a 5 pound 20" AT that I built a few years ago. I have not decided on an optic yet but max magnification will be 6x. It will also use a micro red dot.

  40. Greg... RE: "The 1911 siren song".... It happens with all real pistoleros Brother... It did with me years ago (...in the 70's and 80's...)... I reloaded and burned lotsa powder thru em with round nose hardball... I carried a gubmt model and a commander as well... Grew to like the LW commanders better than any of the others... Don't carry em anymore... Too old and curmudgeonly to do so, and the Colts are too valuable to carry... Sadly, i think time has passed em by, like that great old killer the SAA and the great Smith "N" frames... Havin said all that, it is my belief that every finished pistolero owes it to themselves to own and learn to shoot proficiently the great 1911... Preferably a genuine Colt Gubmt Model... Remember, Brothers n Sisters, the 1911 was birthed as a cavalry pistol to replace that greatest of pistols ever, the Colt SAA... There are tales of the old troopers refusin to turn their beloved SAA's for the newfangled 1911, as well as tales of em rawhiding down the grip safety on em to make sure they went off when they needed to... The "Cocked n Locked" thing came after the calvary died... The old timers carried em hammer down or on the half cock and cocked em to shoot ALA the old SAA... They put the safety on after the shootin was over... HEHEHE... calvary leroy, the lefty 1911 pistolero....

  41. The only person who was able to improve on the 1911 was John Browning. The HP35 combined his linkless breech locking and fixed barrel bushing with the Savage double column magazine. The only thing modern pistols added was the Walther double-action trigger. The Glock striker was copied from the 1907 Roth. Plastic frames we're copied from H&K. There is a reason his parents named him John MOSES Browning. He led us to the greatest personal weapons in history!
