  1. Doug is out of surgery. He’s not out of the woods yet, but is doing okay right now. They’ve got the breathing tube out. Right now they’re worried about stroke risk and some clots. We’ll know more tomorrow, but be prayerful he can get some rest and begin the process of healing.

  3. I ask @Grand Torino if he could do a knife for me from a farrier rasp. He asked me a few questions ( I told him I liked red) and this is the results. Yes, they are both being added to my collection from GT. Every time I get a knife from GT the photos have never done justice to the real thing. I can't wait to see these in person. No words of thanks can do justice to the quality from GT. But thank you GT. You knocked these out of the park.

  4. This seems like a reasonable thread to say hi again in. [emoji1] Hi y’all. My world went to #### and I’m slowly picking up the bits and pieces. I love it. Hope everyone is doing well. [emoji1]

  5. I picked one up, $1100 locally. I was surprised to see it actually sitting on the shelf, and not taking it home wasn't an option. Handling it, I like the feel of it. Besides being heavy, it is nicely designed from an ergonomic view, feels good in the hand with no contortions needed to operate all controls. The front and backstraps are textured finely and the gun feels smooth in the hand, but when you take a tight firing grip, the checkering helps it stay put. Sights are excellent, and I would only ask for a bit wider rear notch. The front sight appears to fill the notch fully, where I like some light on each side. The front is orange-outlined tritium and the rear has an angled and serrated face, while the front is blunt enough to act as a cocking ledge. Quality of machining is as good as anything I own. Came in a neat fancy cardboard box with 3 mags and a manual. Trigger is good, though not as light as some. Gauges 5.5 pounds on my scale but the extremely short takeup (1/8" or so) and equally short reset make it feel a bit lighter than it actually is. The hinged safety trigger shoe works without a hitch and is unnoticeable while shooting. Mags easily drop free, though they feature stiffer mag springs than anything I've bought lately. It's a chore to get all 15 rounds in and a mag loader's a welcome tool here. Slide release is easy to use and large enough to find and operate in a hurry without being in the way while shooting. I put about 80-90 rounds through it (115gr TMJ reloads at about 130 power factor) and no malfunctions were observed. Recoil is mild compared to a M&P 5" Pro and even a CZ SP01 Shadow. Muzzle rise was minimal and the sight picture quick to reacquire. It seems very comparable to a 9mm Glock or Steyr, though I didn't shoot enough fast strings to really make note of it. It was easy to keep a consistent grip since it doesn't recoil enough to really require a crush grip. It's rare that I pick up a gun that doesn't have some annoying sharp edge or corner that soon stands out, but the H9 doesn't. The mags, though, had sharp corners on the rear of the floorplates that I'm going to round off at some point. Accuracy was good but not "OMG" outstanding. Most firing was at about 10-15 yards and it was easy to keep the shots within a 2" bullseye. I think a lighter trigger will tell the true tale there, combined with shooting from a rest. Point of impact appeared to be right at the top of the front sight, the way I happen to prefer. Perhaps it was shooting a hair to the left, but I'm going to shoot it more before touching the sights. Changes I'd make? I'd like a wider rear notch, as already stated. A pair of slightly more aggressive grips would make me feel better, though maybe not shoot better. I'd take about 1 or 2 pounds off the trigger if it doesn't lighten up within 500 rounds. I'm not in a hurry to do any of this, however, which is high praise in my book. I'm quite pleased with the H9 and I'm really looking forward to spending more time with it at the range. I'm frankly impressed that Hudson managed to deliver a completely new design like this and have it in my hands in what I feel is a record amount of time, without a bunch of teething problems that are glaringly apparent.

  6. Another vote for Vanguard. In specific their low cost ETFs are the way to go.

  7. Keep it simply. I buy the indexes. I use Vanguard. I have brokerage account. I never felt these investment advisors were worth the money. I have shifted my investments mix as I have approached retirement. I'm at 60% stocks and 40% bonds. Satisfied with my performance. Good luck.[emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  8. Country music can’t handle this anymore. There’s no alcohol, very little pickup truck and no thump and bump hip hop tune. The folks in Texas have a decent handle on it though. [emoji106] This one called my mother as well. It got bad. I have friends and a job in TN that would welcome me back with open arms, but I feel at home here and just can’t see myself leaving. A friend told me the other day that I was Wyoming personified and I think she was right. [emoji38]

  9. Glad to hear it. Our 4-year old added Mr. Doug to her bedtime prayers tonight. She's pretty persistent, so I think God heard her.

  10. If it is British it will probably just leave a big oil spot in your driveway.

  11. The fact that it's British is enough to make me go "no thanks." I've had my fair share of dealing with British armor, wouldn't want to take a run at that.

  12. Thanks guys! The only way I can imagine getting rid of it is if it takes off like a rocket and there are suddenly a billion different variations on the market. Then I might think about getting rid of it for a more advanced version... but I think that's pretty unlikely. Here are a few of the internals. Takedown is essentially similar to the Beretta 92FS. You push a spring loaded button on the right side of the frame inwards (it's tight, helps if you have a tool like the plastic end of a ballpoint pen) and swivel the take down trapezoid on the left side of the frame downwards. Pull the trigger and the slide comes off the frame. Recoil spring guide stays with the frame, I believe it's screwed in and doesn't need to come out for routine maintenance. A weapon light is awkward to use. I pretty much can't hit the switches on the TLR-1 with my trigger finger when I have a double handed firing grip. It's quite easy to hit the switch with my support hand index finger, slightly less easy with my support hand thumb. With a little practice it would be a very natural movement.

  13. +1 for Vanguard. I've had the vast majority of my investments with them for five years now, and I'm a happy customer. I have mutual funds and a Roth IRA through their funds, and they do quite well. Their brokerage account is a little higher than average on commissions at $7.95 for a trade, but I mainly use it to buy blue chip stocks that pay good dividends.

  15. 56 If it included a train you would have all the parts of a country song. lmao. Glad you came out good at the other end of it. Crazy Ex's are the worst. I had one that kept calling my Mom to tell her crazy stuff behind my back for years and we only dated 4 months. Lol

  18. Magtech is fine ammo for most use cases. I've shot a ton of it over the years. Seems like you ought to be able to do better than that on pricing, though. I just paid $118/420 for lake city M855 on stripper clips. Seems like there was a rebate through the end of the year, but you still ought to be able to do sub-$300/1000 shipped for M193.

  22. Vanguard has the lowest rates for long term mutual funds and are very helpful moving accounts. I have moved all my scattered accounts plus my retirement roll over to Vanguard with their help. I stopped playing with individual stocks a long time ago, I always picked wrong. I'm in an assortment of mutual funds now.

  24. Are YOU ambi? If not use the original safety as JMB designed it As others have said, does it work without grips on it? If so, you probably need a woodworker more than a gunsmith. - OS

  26. I have an IRA at Charles Schwab and have had no issues. Online interface and iPhone app work great for trades or research. Their website offers online advising which is easy to understand and implement. I've also talked with their "financial consultants" a handful of times and gotten the help I need. 27. I use Fidelity. $4.95 trades and they have some of the best analysis tools around. they're one of (if not the) biggest in the industry and the quality of their software reflects it.

  28. The one in Spencer is near Fall Creek Falls. It is just opening and has shotgun and I think 50/100 yard ranges are opening this weekend. Last info I saw was that the 600 through 1000 yard ranges will be spring 2018. They are having a grand opening this weekend. https://www.deadzeroshooting.com/grand-opening/
