This week I've been reaching out to some members who haven't been on much lately - many of whom just have as much as they can bear going on in their lives. As you're giving thanks this holiday season, take a moment to look around you and take note of all that you've been given - because life can change so fast. Give thanks. Many of you know and have relationships with some of the folks I've been talking to, and I don't need to mention them here. But, for those of you who are longtime active members and know folks who haven't been on much, reach out. People always appreciate knowing that someone is thinking about them.13 points

I'd like for the holiday to return to a celebration of the birth of our savior instead of the ridiculous sham it's become.7 points

I stopped by my gunsmith's shop today to visit my Colt when I saw a goodly array of handguns. None for my taste, but did see a pristine Colt Officers Model Match .38 with a beautiful (not Colt) walnut case. Also a fine looking (didn't examine) Colt .38 Detective Special nickeled. In the back room was a table full ow Walthers, PPK, PPK/S, P-1 and what not. This Keith Warner Gunsmiths on Kirby Parkway in the Fare Four Center, Germantown. Just thought someone might be interested. Bob Wright4 points

We've got some folks who've got really hard paths in front of them for a while. Whether health issues, or family stuff, or both - some folks are having a really hard time. They can use your prayers. It brings to mind the old Ian Maclaren quote, "Be kind, for everyone you know is fighting a hard battle."4 points

Ever since I was old enough to know the real meaning of Christmas I have always done what my parents asked of me. They always said to be sure and Keep CHRIST in Christmas and I have and I passed that down to my children and they are passing it down to theirs. That would be all I want for Christmas is for everyone to "Keep CHRIST in Christmas"4 points
-
That, and praying for them. I might not know who they are, but that doesn't matter. Sometimes we can get selfishly caught up in our own lives and we forget about others who just might not have it so good right now. Thank you for bringing this up and keeping things in perspective.3 points

Interesting, the only time (s) Linus purposely discards his security blanket is proclaiming the birth of Christ (maybe Schultz's sly move to subliminally sell your security is in Christ? - I hope so) The other is wrapping the tree; perhaps a message of transferring security to benefit others. I don't recall any comic strip or video where Linus is without his blanket. My wish has come true. We were blessed this year with no major events, so we were faithful with our tithe. This year we will make a contribution to both KARM and The Angel Tree.3 points

Today being Pearl Harbor Day, there have been some WW II stories. Here's one of mine: There was a War Bond Drive going on in Memphis, this around 1942 or so. Set up in Court Square Park in Memphis, were displays, including a German ME-109 and a Japanese Zero fighter. Along the sidewalk on Main Street was a long olive drab tent, with exhibits inside showing items and the number of $25 bonds it took to purchase them. Distinctly remember an M-1911A1 pistol (Army pistol, to me then.) and its price was three $25.00 bonds. Hot dog! I thought, I had four twenty-five dollar bonds! More than enough to buy me a .45! When the soldier told me it was not for sale, I cried. But not to where he could see me. (I was only about four or five at the time.) Bob Wright3 points

I haven’t shared anything here in a while so let’s change that! I recently had the opportunity to add these 2 to my collection. And I look forward to finding more as they are really growing on me! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

I will gladly keep everyone on TGO in my prayers. I only know a few members personally but everyone here has helped me keep my sanity lately, and that's saying something! This is a great community and I'm happy I can participate.2 points

That’s exactly what it is and so many gun owners of the carrying kind have taken it hook, line, and sinker.2 points

We used a typical brooder infrared heat lamp. Her spot on the porch was up against the bricks. I pointed the lamp at the bricks and it made a fairly warm spot, even with temps in the low 20's. Though most of the time the dumb dog would just stay out in the cold.1 point

Enfields have several different size bolt heads they used back in the day to adjust headspace. Something to consider. You may want to find a smith that knows something about them.1 point

If you have your original license key that came in the paperwork when you bought the computer, you can reinstall Windows 7. You might have a DVD with Windows 7 on it, but more likely, it was something you had to request after you bought the desktop. Most computers shipped without a physical copy of Windows on DVD to save a few pennies since most users would never use it. You can buy a license key on eBay. There are torrents where you can download Windows 7, but it will only work a few days before you have to register it with the license key. FWIW, you can buy a decent entry level laptop for about $250 in the after Christmas sales. I routinely buy a new laptop every two years.1 point

+1. Unfortunately, the Stoeger Cougar has been discontinued just like the older Beretta version & parts are no longer being produced. Numrich, Brownell's, & a few other have limited parts available, but mags are getting really hard to locate. I picked up some all metal guide rod/recoil assemblies (before they switched to plastic guide rods), D springs, trigger springs, etc. for mine a few years ago for my parts box. I'll probably never shoot them enough to have to replace those parts, but it's better to have extras than not. Extra mags are a must.....1 point

Still not seeing any deer . Last year there were does standing in every field around here , now I'm not even seeing that . Have seen a very few bucks crossing the roads but that's about it . Gonna still hunt this afternoon and see if I can't walk up on one . Got scrapes and rubs around the stand I'm hunting but not getting any day traffic , checked one of the bigger scrapes yesterday and it had been freshly visited so I know they are still around . Can't see or hear them it's kinda hard to kill them . Dad was 81 and 6 months old . Retired twice , USAF first (26 years active and 4 reserve) then from Square D in Smyrna . He was an SRO at the range in Mt Juliet for a number of years . He scrapped copper and cast and sold bullets as well as making jigs for Hoppys in his spare time . He was able to do most of that untill the last few months .He was a hunter , fisherman and a first class reloader and gun crank . Was married to my stepmother for 49 years and raised 5 kids . He had a pretty good life ! Eddie1 point

You can legally carry a loaded long gun in your vehicle, just not on your person most places unlike Arizona. Listed in our "Criminal Offenses" Chapter of the Tennessee Code Annotated (39) is this: 39-17-1307. Unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon. (a) (1) A person commits an offense who carries, with the intent to go armed, a firearm or a club. Your tax payer paid permit is a "defense against prosecution only", you have no right to bear arms off your personal property sans paying the vig to do so. The word "offense" means crime in legal terms, you commit a crime when you carry a loaded weapon with the intent to go armed in TN. Just be aware, and do not let the pols try to convince you they are the 2nd Amendment loving gaggle they portend to be.1 point

I had the Beretta Cougar in 9mm. I loved it . I did the decock only modification. No parts needed , you just take out a spring and plunger. Best mod I ever did . I just don't like the .40S&W cartridge.1 point

I wear a suit daily, and I clip a Magic to the inside pocket of my jacket. That’s my vote. You’ll always have a conversation piece if you have time to kill. No ones opened mine yet.1 point

The elk was gravy for a great trip. Got to spend some real time with my brother, life had denied that in any quantity for the last 25 years, he a Dr. (Interventionist Radiologist), me in the Heavy Industrial Manufacturing construction business, both demand all of your time, fractured families and lost dreams are the result of such avocations. He retired in September, I took the first vacation days not spent at the TN Legislature in 10 years (two full weeks). We caught up, buried a couple of hatchets and had a genuine good time in each others presence. Montana was gorgeous, I got to stand on Last Stand Hill and marvel at Custer's stupidity, saw a lot of country I had never seen except out of the window at 30K feet. I wish we had done it 25 years ago, but at least we did it now!1 point

Looking at the eastern edge. My target is Sevierville, but anywhere in that part of the state should work for us. We're moving back east to be with our families. We've been out here for 15 years, and our children and grandchildren are just too far away. Tennessee will put us geographically in the middle between the Yanks and Rebels.1 point

If they're releasing 80,000, what kind of price point can we expect. I'd like to see 3-4 million M1 carbines come home from Korea.1 point

Maybe you could try container gardening? A 5-gallon bucket will support a tomato plant. Maybe you can do a few of those on a deck or patio just for the satisfaction of growing something and getting a little fresh produce.1 point

Can't leave out Phoebe Ann Mosey aka "Miss Annie Oakley", "Little Sure Shot", "Little Miss Sure Shot", "Watanya Cicilla", "Phoebe Anne Oakley", "Mrs. Annie Oakley", "Mrs. Annie Butler", and "Mrs. Frank Butler". These 3 images are from her early years. When Phoebe was only 15 years old she won a shooting match with traveling-show marksman by the name of Frank E Butler. She ended up marrying him and traveled the world performing shooting exhibitions and competitions. This was her in 1922 at the age of 62. She died 4 years later from Vitamin B12 deficiency anemia.1 point
